I Wanna See the New Moon Movie! But Not Like This...

Let me get right to it: I hate spoilers of any kind. I don't flip ahead in books I'm reading--ever--and I don't watch commercials or trailers for movies that I intend to see [MASSIVE exception made for the Twilight trailer, which sustained me and JJ in those bleak months in between when we discovered Twilight and when the movie was released]. Hell, I don't even watch upcoming scenes/teasers for television shows I follow. "Lost" is over for me when the "Bad Robot" scurries across the screen - I'm scrambling for the Tivo remote before I find out too much about next week's episode; ditto for "Heroes" (ftr I still watch both of these shows even though lately they baffle more often than not and I have no idea what's going on more frequently than I care to admit).

Thankfully, JJ and I discovered Twilight late in the game and as we've mentioned before, there was very little time between when we read the books and when the movie came out. Neither one of us really had a clue that there was an expansive online Twilight community until we were pretty much up to speed. So there has never been much of an opportunity for us to happen across spoilers. Until now.

I was excited during the initial build-up to the shooting of New Moon. It was awesome to see the existing cast getting back together again, and to find out who was being cast in new key roles (not to mention the "will they or won't they?!" dilemma concerning potential recasting of certain roles from Twilight). Given the aggressive production schedule that has been set for the filming of the subsequent movies, we didn't have to wait long for things to get underway. And then it hit me: I didn't want to know about it, I didn't want to see any of it, and yet here I had deliberately spent the last several months actively carving a place for myself right in the thick of spoiler-central.

Don't get me wrong: I love my fellow twibloggers and am massively impressed with the information they are able to get their hands on. I LOVE seeing pictures of the cast in the right context! Some of the pics of R-Pattz's b-day festivities reminded me--CLEARLY and in a way that instantly took me to my near-catatonic-OMRobward-happy-place--of one of the more compelling reasons that I am so completely and apologetically smitten with the whole thing in the first place:

Jawgasm-inducing pic filched from RobPattzNews via TwiCrack Addict...

[wipes drool off of keyboard; forces self to look away...]

But I don't want to see ALL of it. When the crazy set stalkers nice, sane TwiFans who just happened to be in the area and started sending in their reports from the field, I was waiting for each update with bated breath. Wardrobe test shots? Bring it! Make-up and hair test runs [please please PLEASE let things be better than in Twilight! But that's a topic for another post...]? Show meeee!!! I was down with that... But once they started filming actual scenes, I realized I didn't want the blow-by-blow details. AT ALL. I just don't want to see each scene as it is being shot.

When JJ and my limo pulls up to the theater at 11-something p.m. on November 19th [hey - it IS JJ's birthday weekend, so we'll have a collective excuse to get our way and splurge as we see fit], I want to be able to watch the film for the first time and [hopefully] be transported to Twilight nirvana. I want it to be magical! I don't want to watch each scene thinking "oh here's that one where they stopped for seven smoke breaks, changed outfits a few times, signed a bunch of autographs, and then afterwards went out to dinner at Chez VanCity and had fruity cocktails! Rob had spaghetti and meatballs! And he made that funny face..."

"Man, I wish I hadn't eaten that burrito from the Kraft Services table earlier today..."

Nope. Not for me! Thanks but no thanks! I want to watch it the way I watched Twilight: all new to me, giggling hysterically into JJ's ear every thirty seconds, each scene fresh and new [and hopefully-not-too-unintentionally-funny this time around]. And maybe then I will backtrack and see what I missed (fellow twibloggers, please be prepared for an onslaught of my comments on your six-month-old posts some time around 11/20 or 11/21. I WILL be expecting responses - lol!) . But until then, if some of my co-bloggers find that I am not lurking around their sites with my usual level of zeal, now you know why. Nothing personal. I'll be back!

"I pity the fool who ruins this movie for Snarkier Than You!"

  2. Oh my word.... first of all, i am so relieved that i am not the only one who cannot keep up with heroes. theMr and i watch every week and i continue to get more and more confused. now i just don't even try to think about what happened the week before, it confuses me too much. whenever i mention that i'm completely lost, the hubby just looks at me like i'm an idiot. whatev...
aaannyway... i feel the same way. while i can't seem to drag myself away from all the details that keep coming out, i hate every bit that it's ruining it. i want to be totally surprised (well, as surprised as you can be when you've read the book a zillion times). i'm trying to wean myself away from movie details while still not missing any delish pics of robward (such as the birthday one, oh my, i'm too married to say what i'd like to say about that mouth)

  3. I completely agree with you. I actually did a post in the same vein a while back. It was just all getting to much for me so I don't post any spoiler stuff anymore and I read blogs peeking between my fingers to make sure that I'm not going to see or read something I don't want to. Glad to know I'm not alone!

  4. lol Well said! And your not the only late in gamer....I didn't come around until the movie came on cable. It wasn't until I saw the movie about 6 times that weekend that I decided I loved it AND THEN went out and bought all 4 books, and the dvd, and the soundtrack, and the........
btw, I love your blog, you guys do a great job on it!!

  5. to some extent i agree, i want to just be able to dive in and experience new moon w/o wondering if that was the take i saw the preview of on entertainment tonight. but its so hard to do that when practiclly every blog/site i visit has postings all the time.

  6. First off, I loved the image you used of all the spoilers. Just had to mention that.

Secondly, I don't really mind being spoiled because it's never stopped me from seeing the movie myself. In fact, some tabloid show recently showed a scene being filmed between Kristen and Taylor in which they positioned him standing on a block above her to make it seem like he was this big guy towering over her and I giggled at it...much like I giggled at the way Rob's legs were positioned in the meadow scene (go watch that scene if you don't already know what I'm referring to). I have a strong feeling that you and JJ will be inappropriately giggling at New Moon too, lol.

  7. I totally agree, I blogged sorta kinda similar a few weeks, days, I dunno, no concept of time anymore...I said that I felt like all the NM set news and pics were killing the NM experience for me. I will be honest I don't care so much about the NM set stuff. I want to the see the movie. That's all. I am happy to spend my time looking at Rob's pics...cuz that's kinda my hobby now I guess. I kinda separate my Twilight crazies from my Rob crazies. I can have patience and love for my Twilight crazies NOT so much for my Rob crazies...I want all those pics and news now!

  8. I think this is why I'm not posting as fast and furiously as I normally do -- don't want to lose that loving feeling, ya know?

  10. Plain & simple, I concur. I avoid all New Moon goodies as if they were the plague. A little piece of me dies EVER single time I pass up new information. But I learned far to much about Twilight the Movie. I got far to wrapped up in all the hype.

Me & my box of tissues will be clueless when we walk into that theater on the night of Nov. 19th. We will be picturing all our lovely Twitards, while crying hysterically. Boy oh boy it's gonna be a confusing night. :)

  12. Oh I so agree! When I first discovered the books, my curiosity got the best of me and after reading Twilight, I started snooping around on the internet... and read (by accident) about Jacob becoming a werewolf in NM - I almost started weeping right then and there knowing I spoiled it for myself! God was I pissed!

I don't want to know anything about the movie but can't help myself from looking at least at the photos of Robward!! (Gotta quench the thirst somehow!) I hate that I'm wishing the summer away so I can get my fix in November.....

On another note... I watched Twilight (again) last night - the first time since I've started reading Wide Awake. Does anyone else have an issue now with thinking of Jessica as a total slut, Mike as a total douchebag (more than usual) and loving Edward's dirty, dirty mouth? Whoa, whole new experience for me but I think I liked it... very much!

  13. "Touche" or should I say "douche" haha

I'm with you keep anything NM a secret until the movie release. I don't want to know how big Edward's........ erm hand's are or what haute couture jacket of the season he'll be wearing!

But anything RPattz "bring it on!". Not that we are obsessive compulsives here or anything?!?!

PS: loved the spoiler image - very cool! :)

  14. JJ and STY:

    Love you hilarious, insightful ladies!

This is my first time commenting here (though I was awfully tempted, a while back, to contribute a few frustrated observations to the human/vampire procreation debate ;)).

I agree with others: my RP enchantment is separate from my interest in the NM movie (and, if truth be told, while I enjoyed the book, the movie adaptation is primarily an occasion for me to become even more deeply hypnotized by RP).

I believe that the moviegoing experience is somewhat demystified, when so much of the mechanics are revealed in advance.

By the way, thanks for these photos, showing the many faces (and fingers) of RP. Love the church/steeple gesture, in #3....

  15. I too am right there with ya Snarky! Don't watch Heroes but I love me some LOST and am so confused right now. I'll own it! I'm the same way with 24 too..I have to be spoiler free (btw I've only watched about 4 episodes of this season so please don't ruin it for me if you watch). Glad to know that I'm not the only one who wants to be spoiler free for NM. Besides, the crazy stalker fans scare me and only fuel my embarassment when trying not to admit how much of a Twi-tard that I am.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Anon - Thanks! Now sign up - lol! : )

@themrs - oh you are SO not alone in being baffled by Heros! And you are married, not dead! Like I tell Mr. Snarky: you can still look at the menu, just remember that you've already ordered. : )

@Eyes of Amber - I feel the same way - looking at blogs so carefully, and I LOVE all the other Twi blogs out there! just want to hide my eyes for the on-the-set pics and stuff... How much longer do we have to wait for NM?? sigh...

@TwiHexed - Thanks!! and lol - you sure did do it all backwards but the end result is still the same, it would seem! Plus it's great to have everything all right there - the only thing you have to suffer through now is waiting for NM and the rest... : )

@IPW4F - agreed - it ISN'T easy - I still want to read all the other stuff and see other pics! But I am trying hard not to see every since shot from set as the make the rounds...

@Koolio - thanks! I thought that "spoiler" graphic was funny although i just realized i forgot to credit someone for it... oops! And you're right on target there - that's exactly the type of thing I am trying to avoid knowing about (and yes JJ and I will likely giggle no matter what... that's just the way we roll)! : )

@Ang(Amcas) - "separate my Twilight crazies from my Rob crazies" - lol! Sounds like a good system, though!

@Ana Cristina - i think this keeps me from blog surfing as much as i used to! But I will be right there again after filming ends (well, until Eclipse starts - what's that, like a two-week break, if that??? lol...).

@Fire Crotch - You're blog cracks me up, too! Plus, you had us at "Fire Crotch" - I mean really, that killed me...

@cuteangiek - thanks for the reminger: btring tissues! i'm gonna need them! or at least i had better...

@Marny - thanks - we will check it out!

@Stacy207 - now that you mention it, that was the ONE spoiler I was aware of - the jacob thing - i forget how i found out but I was ticked! i don't want to go there again, you know?? : )

@limey-1996 - wait did you just call me a douche?! lol... jk. and really - i don't want to see a party outfit, a volturi member, a wolf - nothing! - until i'm in the theater. ok, until the trailer comes out - who am i kidding?? i'll watch that dang trailer a million times once it's available...

  17. @Mrs. Robinsane - thanks!! and i absolutely want there to be magic! mystery! all that!! as much as possible, i want to see it not knowing too much about the movie version.

@Aunt_b - no, no, no! the crazy stalkers are supposed to make you feel BETTER and LESS crazy by comparison! That's my story and i'm stickin' with it...

  19. I know exactly how you feel STY! I came into the Twilight game a little late (saw the movie before I read the books) and now I find, that with my constant cyber stalking, I am slowly ruining New Moon for myself. I went into Twilight not having any prior information other than my friends dying over this guy named "Edward"! (Now, I die with them)

Now, I know what all the charachters are wearing for the party scene. I worry now that when I watch the cliff scene if I will flashback to the pool pics set up the with the green screens that I saw on TCA's blog. I think I'm killing the experience.

I'm sad that I might not see Edward, just Rob on the screen and it makes me bummed out. I'm going to cut myself off from all the spoilers and such things. I love my blogs too much to give them up, but I'm going to pass over the more movie related stuff from now on and hope I haven't ruined the magic of New Moon.

SOrry, I know it's not very witty, but it's heartfelt!

  20. I agree with you on the spoilers and frankly since I found your blog, it's the only blog right now that I really daily look at. Only because I like all the funny stories related to being Twitarded and love reading other peoples comments, etc.. On 'Lost' though, that's a differnt story, those spoilers some times have hidden freaking message and crap. I love that show! Anyhoo...Can't wait till New Moon comes out.

  21. Kat: Flashbacks to pool green screens—so true!

And re: befuddlement over the story arc on "Lost": I fear they are veering dangerously close to an "it was all a dream" explanation.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Typically spoilers don't bother me, for LOST I have to watch them because I want to see if I can figure out what will happen next. If someone tells me all about the movie I want to see I still go watch it and not feel robbed.

I am however trying to avoid getting TMI on New Moon. I wanted to see/hear who would be cast but that is as far as it goes. I am not worried about trailers, I just don't want to know about the production of the movie cuz i feel like it will take the "magic" out of the movie.

What IS making it hard is getting people around me that know of my obsession to keep from telling me what they know about filming, and sending me emails with pix/links with info from the set! Stop trying to take the magic out from the movie people!!!!!

  23. If someone spoiled the books for me I would have been pissed but I'm ready for movie spoilers. Gimmie gimmie gimmie. I'm the kind of person who rummaged through her parent's closet to find out what she was getting for Xmas.
Hopefully they don't throw in any sort of twists that wern't in the book......."Dil is Actually a Man" style. Transexual Vampires is a whole other genre.

  24. I did a quick scan, so I might have overlooked this...but could you tell me where one could find that wonderful Twilight smut? I'd love to read some, but don't want to wade through a bunch of stuff written by teenagers. It would be wonderful if you did a blog on this topic.

  29. I agree with what has been said. I admit at the beginning I enjoyed blog-stalking other blogs to see what was happening on the sets etc. I too realized that it was going to ruin the movie come November and have tried to stop looking if it was anything "on the set". Even after watching the special features on the DVD, I was disappointed. Now everytime I watch the movie I think: Oh that's not a "meadow" but in the corner of some golf course. *sigh*

  31. I feel the same way! Twilight was ruined for me in all sorts of ways because I polluted myself with behind the scenes footage before seeing the movie. I vowed to myself that I will watch NO VIDEO of filming or interviews about filming and thus have an absolutely pure New Moon experience! Pictures are ok... I gotta have something.
