The Twilight Saga Is Done... So Now What???

I know you. You've read the entire Twilight Saga. Including Midnight Sun (natch). Perhaps you've even read the books several times. Oh who am I kidding?! I said I know you: of course you've read them over and over and over again. Or at least more times than you might be willing to admit outside of the comfy, Twi-enabling safety-zone that is Twitarded. Then maybe you went back and read Midnight Sun side-by-side with Twilight for as long as possible, and cursed the unnamed person who ruined it all for the rest of us by leaking it and causing Stephenie Meyer to shelve the entire project (admit it: you did the side-by-side read. or you thought about it. and if you've never considered it until this very moment, now you're going to go do it right after you finish this post).

Mini-E and I say: This is YOU in about five minutes...

But like me, even after all that, you've probably been left hungering (dare I say "thirsting...") for more. I've seen the forum threads all over the place asking--nay, begging for something comparable to read. I'm right there with you: I read and reread and reread and I was still left wanting more more MORE. And while nobody can be sure what the future holds (not even Alice knows for certain!), Stephenie Meyer has said that she feels Twilight is complete. She could rewrite the entire thing from Edward's perspective, and after that write several more books that delve into the stories of the other Cullens (and Hales...), and we would devour it like the rabid fans that we are...but sadly it doesn't look like any of that in the cards.

So a while back, before I really even had a clue that fanfic existed, I said to myself "Self, I can't possibly be the only one who is dying for 'Book Five'!" so I started doing random searches for more material in the hopes that maybe some aspiring, talented and obsessed-with-Twilight writer had taken it upon themselves to keep things going. I waded through a lot of crappy stories (let's just say that 99.9% of the people who really want to write something like this are not capable of pulling it off) - as well as some hotly debated writing by people intent on publishing and profiting from their fanfic - before I found something that sorta fit what I was after...

For the sake of full disclosure, I haven't read all of this material, but what I have read hits the right chord imho, so it might do the same for you. It's not M-rated, it's a work in progress, and it's not perfect (by the author's own admission it's rough in spots and not grammatically correct in others), but I like it so far and that's good enough for now.

It's called "edge of night" ["twilight continues..."] and picks up roughly where Breaking Dawn ends. I don't know anything about the author other than the fact that she is open to suggestions/feedback but asks that anyone commenting play nice. So without further adieu:

If clicking on the pic fails, here is the addy: http://twilightcontinues.blogspot.com/

Let us know what you think! Or if you have found something that is filling your need for more Twilight, share with us! We've probably all checked out the usual suspects by now, but I'm willing to bet that there are more people out there waiting to be discovered... Either that or I am going to have to lock JJ in my basement and force her to churn out subsequent chapters of Twilight fanfic, and nobody wants me to have to go there (but I will if I have to, so...). Save JJ!

  1. I am SOOO totally doing the side by side reading as soon as I'm done reading my 45,000 Twilight related blogs. Why?!?! Why did I never think to do it before?

Anyway, I'm just starting to get into fanfic after reading your suggestion for Wide Awake. Love Darkward.

I have to go now and obsess over Midnight Sun and Twilight!!!! Thanks (and damn you) for the suggestion1

  2. Holy snap!

Okay, so I'm the author, and I'm always amazed when people read Edge of Night let alone link it in a post or suggest it to others.

    Thank you so much.

I'm very pleased with the story so far, and I'm currently working on Chapter 8 as we speak. Hopefully will be done by next week.

  5. Hi there Untypically Jia! So glad you are ok with me putting your story out there - I really have enjoyed what I have read so far... I didn't see an email or I would have given you more of a heads-up! Feel free to email me at snarkierthanyou@gmail.com - and I'll add you to our blogroll so we can keep up with future chapters (feel free to add us to your site if you want - I can send a button/link (I think...lol... kinda still working on that because we're technically challenged here at twitarded...)! I didn't want to ask but am glad that you're still working on it!

    Cheers!

  6. Ever since I finished the series (now for the 3rd time) as well as MS several times, I have been immersed in Wide Awake. And oh my....what a story that is. I have read that one twice and will read it again, and again, and again....I really dig Edward in that story...he's so dark and naughty!!

  7. That is soo funny because I have totally done the cross referencing thing with all the oohs and ahh's and oh that's why she/he did that! haha Great minds think alike.

I've been trying to read "Nightworld" but keep comparing to Twilight saga and keep saying "but vampires don't do that" so am failing miserably. But have started to read "Wide Awake" and that's brilliant. I really love Edward swearing it makes him a dirty little tyke!
    Cool!

So cheers! I will check out the one you suggest. 8-)

  8. Certainly, you can send a button to untypicallyjia@gmail.com and I'll add it to Twilight Continues!

  9. Gotta agree with all you Wide Awake fans. I'm going on sleep deprivation over that just like I did over the original "saga" (except some naps during Breaking Dawn). Now I know I'll re-read WA and am worried about what to do when that's done. The only problem is that now I am obsessed, infatuated, lusting - whatever- over both Edward and Darkward (Robward too?). My fantasy life is getting confusing - but I love it ! Yikes!

  10. oh, twitarded, how do you always know what i need? i think edward is rubbing off on you (that's what she said) and you are you reading my mind! if so, that's perfectly all right with me :)

i can NOT wait to finish wide awake. everyone should read it.
i also enjoyed this look into how alice became a vamp and found jasper and the cullens, so perhaps you will, too:

  11. Yes, it seems like you DO know me! LOL I will definitely have to read Edge of Night - do I capitalize that if it's a rough, unfinished, online-only book?

Reading suggestions - Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre, Romeo and Juliet, and Sorceress by Celia Rees.

    Love your blog!

  12. I haven't done the side by side yet, but have thought about it many times. According to the SM web page, she IS going to do Midnight Sun, and some very good sources have told me there will be two to 3 books from Edwards perspective. I am hoping That SM continues the saga. It's ashame to make all of us fans pay for something some idiot did. I do intend to write her at her publishing company and tell her that. Perhaps we need to start a letter writing or signature campaign to let her know she needs to keep it going. Until then, I have run into this awesome site of fanfic, called Twilighted http://www.twilighted.net/index.php
which I will be posting my own page as well. We all seem to be jones-ing for more at the same time now it seems. After you sign up on that page, there is a really good story by Emerald_Rosalie about what happens AFTER the birthday party....and the possibility of Emmett and Bella hooking up. If all else fails, do what I did...buy the complete works of Jane Austen and Wuthering Heights (since Bella reads them) and translate all the characters over into Cullens. lol.

I hope you like the Twilighted site.

  13. Hey STY, thanks for the suggestion... as soon as I'm done panting over Wide Awake, I'm most definitely going to check this out.

Does anyone else find themselves riveted to the computer screen with mouth hanging open and all dry when you're reading Wide Awake... I know I sure do!! Holy fuck...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wide Awake is evil. The last time I was reading it ML came home and I joked that I had to change my panties four times. Then I heard someone snicker. Outside. Fuuuuuuuk. The window was open. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  15. you should NEVEr have told me about edge of night... i'm totally immersed now. my house is trashed, my kids got put to bed early and the sink is full of dishes... thanks! im so loving it. i really feel like i'm reading another SM book. love it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh yeah, twihexed- where are you seeing on SM website that she will def do midnight sun? last i read, she said she may or may not. do tell!

    ReplyDelete
  17. ok, so firstly, I love love LOVE your blog--too funny.
and as for the (yes you do know me) reading of MS next to Twilight, well, I took it one step further than that even, I had my hubby (after some restrained shrieking on my part) find a copy of MS that wasn't locked...and I printed it out (thus using all the ink we had left in our printer--damn)...AND I had it bound...so I now have a book format LOL...so I'm not sure if this makes me mad or just more organised than some...anyway, it's SOOO much better than having to sit with my copy of Twilight at the computer and keep scrolling up and down, losing my place on the screen in between sighs and squeals (you know you all squealed a little bit when Edward said he nearly took the car door of when he saw Bella faint after Biology...lol, so cute!)...so yes, Twitarded, I believe I too am Twitarded, Twi-manic even?! Seriously though, it only cost $5 to have MS bound--WORTH IT!!! (though I couldn't look the guy at the printers in the eye when I picked it up, just in case he was one of those heathens who JUST DOESN"T GET IT --what's WRONG with some people?!)...so yah, off to read Edge of Night...and maybe Wide Awake--again.....
can't wait for your next blog :)

  18. Read it, loved it, waiting for more.
Thanks for the suggestions on FF...lord, knows I need more people feeding my addiction.

  19. STY- Hilarious Pic of Mini-E, MS Screen and Twilight page. Perfection! I have not done it - but I have thought about it ALOT.

I am so into Wide Awake - maybe, dare I say, even more than Twilight. Dark Edward and all that bad boy swearing and Cookie Broken Bella..is mesmerizing. Did I just cross a Twilight line there. Fuck. I just need that intensity of WA (and some of that M rating does not hurt). Can i still be in the club..? fuck. I just bookmarked Edge of Night. Thx..I love to follow the Twitarded yellow brick road. i love where it takes me!

  20. Thanks for feeding my fanfic disease;)
Can't wait to check out Edge of Night!

  21. I was twitching like a feign trolling for more fanfic and you answered my call!

Yowzas! Good call on the fanfic. Can't wait for more.

  22. Hey, have you checked out Dark Side of the Moon (http://www.twilighted.net/viewstory.php?sid=34) by blondie over at Twilighted? It's New Moon in EPOV. It's not finished but it's pretty good, imho. I didn't see it suggested in the above comments. I'm still avoiding WA since I've got a boat load of other fan fic to slog through, but I know it's only a matter of time before I succumb. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Thank you girls so much for the fanfic suggestions. You take away all the work searching for the "good stuff", it saves A LOT of time! I wasn't really into fanfic until you suggested WA, I love it!! Looking forward to Edge of Night.

  24. Yay i have something else to read about twilight now lol

by the way i also follow Bella's Diary

  25. Thanks for the suggestion for another read. I am totally going to check it out! Hmmm good to hear I am not the ONLY one who has not read the two side by side. :)

  26. sorry make that "good to hear I am not the only person who HAS read the two side by side"

  27. I'm looking forward to reading Edge of Night. Maybe it will leave a better taste in my mouth after being thoroughly disappointed in Breaking Dawn. Yep, I'm one of the rare few. I'm sorry, fellow twitards, but the last book of the saga just didn't do it for me after the first 3 totally rocked so hard it was Twifest.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I will admit, that when I finished the series the first time I didn't know what to do with myself, lol. I read other books but my mind kept drifting back to Twilight. It's a sickness, I tell you! ;)

In any case, I'm now finishing up reading the series for the second time and then I'm done. I read through the series the first time so quickly, I had to reread because I knew I'd missed so much. I can honestly say, if it weren't for my getting my daily fix of snark and Twilight info. through your blog, I would be in that same funk I was the first time I finished reading the books!

    ReplyDelete
  29. no M rating..really :( ..well of course im gonna read it anyway

    ReplyDelete
  30. If you haven't already done the side-by-side read, I highly recommend it - after you stop feeling like a total idiot, it's pretty interesting and does give you a lot of "A-HA!" moments...

And thanks - as always! - for all of the additional suggestions - we all need a lot of writing to get our fix at this point - glad to know we're all in this together - lol...

Thanks for the tip, TwiHexed - it would be fantastic if she kept some of these characters going, at least, and I would LOVE to read other POV stories.

And great idea, Linda! I haven't looked for an unlocked copy of Midnight Sun but I wouldn't mind adding it to my collection (and I don't care if the copy-shop person gives me the hairy-eyeball - lol!). I have a copy on my desktop but nothing I can print... Hmmm... Maybe someone can send me a link?? Or I am sure it's not too tough to find...

Sorry about the lack of "M" goodies in this story but still a good read! : )

    ReplyDelete
  31. How did you guys get Midnight Sun printed? I have the PDF from the SM site, but I can't print any of it, and it's just not the same sitting at my computer and reading it :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh no. I love your blog to pieces, but fanfiction suggestions? I cannot heal my addiction if everyone keeps feeding it! Ok, Ok. I can only blame myself (because I keep reading Twilight blogs? Yes.).

I need to go read this one AND "Wide Awake" now! Also, another great suggestion for those of you who enjoy the more (ahem) mature Edward and Bella: "The List" from twilighted.net. It owns me and I promise it will own you too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, thanks a lot! I thought I'd finally worked my way thru a huge list of fanfic (WA, Submissive/Dom, The List, Gravity, Frenemies, to name a few) and was going to head into summer reading some actual books (oh the list I have on my bookshelf waiting to be read is long!) But I read this post & am now back to the fic sites! I am going to treat myself to this new story rec...and am justifying it by saying that the treat of good fanfic is a lot lower calorie than treating myself to another latte :)

I also considered reading MS & TWilight side by side, but have not gotten around to it. It has not been lost on me how difficult it must have been for SM to write it, probably having to cut & paste all the dialogue just right to make sure every little detail was the same. I adore hearing both sides of the story...maybe that's why I life fanfic so much. Well, that and the lemons :)

@Linda, who had MS bound.... I sort of did the same thing with Wide Awake. I just don't have a laptop, & cannot sit in front of the desktop to read sometimes, so I started printing out 5 or 6 chapts at a time, until I had the whole thing (thankfully I own an invitation studio and thus I have a really great & fast laser printer with a huge cartridge!). Now I have it "bound" in a lovely 3 ring binder. I take a few chapters around the house with me as I am rocking the baby, drying my hair, or if I just have a few minutes to read but cannot be in the same room as the computer. It's somewhat loserly, but I like your train of thought: organized :)

Thanks for all the fic recs! My to-read list had run dry (with the exception of those incomplete stories that I know we are all dying to get updates for!) Love this site, and it's readers xo

    ReplyDelete
  34. just read edge of night, really good, def iked it.

....... any clue how often angstgoddess updates wide awake?

    ReplyDelete
  35. @K_intheflo--I couldn't agree with you more. I so love dirty bird Edward in WA.

@STY--thanks for the rec. It is now bookmarked along with all the other fanfic piling up in my favorites to read. I agree, I need to start printing this stuff--it would make it way easier to read.

Question to all of you who have read WA--I started reading it on fanfic.net and then went over to her LiveJournal and it seems like there are chapters missing. Am I missing something? Please explain.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I did a double take as well when I was reading it. Thought I skipped a chapter or something. But everything IS there. Another way is you can always go back to her front page and click the chapters by number on the sidebar...

Thank you so much for the recommendation.
