The Video That SHOULD Have Won The New Moon Contest

So today (or yesterday - one of those - but since this is Twitarded and as you know we're perpetually late, it's probably the latter...) Summit Entertainment announced the winner of the New Moon "Be A Part of the Movie" contest. We knew a little bit about the contest itself mostly because JJ posted something about her thought process upon learning of it: "Sweet! Contest. I like winning things... Is there an age limit? Am I beyond the age limit? Even if there isn't an age limit should I try to cling to the last vestiges of dignity I have and NOT enter the contest? I wonder what's for dinner. RPatz is hot. Should I be thinking about things like this?!" - see her original post here if you'd like to take a gander - and consequently we got a TON of traffic from people looking for info on the contest. Sorry, people who wanted legit official rules and stuff!

Anyway, the unicorn they ultimately chose as the winner had made a humorous rappin'-white-boy video. It's cute. But honestly, after reading about another one of the entries on Letters to Twilight today, I gotta say that they picked the wrong submission. I'm not trying to diss the guy who won, but it seems like maybe Summit doesn't have the best grasp of their audience. Or they just don't care. Because if the contest winner had been chosen by the fans/popular vote, I think Rachel's submission would have won. Click here and scroll over to Rachel's name to view.

Beautiful, right? It really captures the essence of New Moon and what makes it so special, imho.

Long story [not so] short, UC and Moon over at LTT are trying to track down this person, to thank her and send her a little from-the-heart consolation prize. I doubt that anyone here at Twitarded missed the LTT post (hey I read and comment over there, too, and I see some familiar names and faces in the mix!), but I'll do my part to get the word out, just in case. Rachel, phone LTT!

  1. I have to say - I'm appalled and offended that they chose that ridiculous rapper. I'm sorry, but that's just how I feel.

Rachel's submission was so heartfelt, and poignantly done. She really should have won.

  2. @JJ--I totally agree. I am a total sap and I cried the first time I saw her video..well, actually the second time because I had to put my glasses on to read the print at the end.

It would have been cool to have a Twilight fan in our relative age group (at least she looks like she might be) and one that is clearly so creative and deserving. Maybe this story will take hold and Tyra will invite Rachel on her show and make her do some stupid contest and her prize will be an evening with the whole cast and Stephenie. She should totally win something.

  3. I didn't even know about all this because I'm a loser. But my husband seriously thought there was something wrong with my face while I was watching the winner... WTF? Why was Edward's name no where in all that?? umm... I'm so confused. The book is about her losing him right?

    @JJ - I totally agree...

@VitaminR70 - I cried and needed my glasses as well(to bad they've been lost for WEEKS now).

  4. I'm not going to sugar coat this. The rap was beyond retarded. Why on God's green earth would the judges not choose Rachel's submission? Shame on you judges!

  5. I posted over there my theory as to why they chose a boy. ;)

    I stand by that. LOL.

The other submissions were sub par, lacking creativity and boring. Rachels was AMAZING artistic creative and beautiful!

Really and truly I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't just say..well..we just put all the names in a hat and picked one.

  6. Poor Rachel. It was so breathtaking and utterly moving. Why wouldn't they pick someone that could truly connect with the book, like she can? I'm just disgusted. The other videos were junk in comparison (the ones I watched anyway--I was too sickened to watch any more).

  7. Awwww - that was a fantastic video, heads and shoulders above anyone else's submission. It captures how you feel when you read New Moon -- and don't get me wrong, some of the others are kind of cute or funny - but seriously, how many others were raps? White people rapping does not funny make.

@Heather S - where can I find your comments as to why they picked a boy? I mean I think they wanted to buck the stereotypical Twilight Fan and get more guys interested in the movies - but boooo, Rachel deserved the win.

A tear definitely rolled down my cheek - crying at work is frowned upon, but so is reading and writing internet blogs. Hopefully, the more chatter around this video the more likely Rachel will be rewarded.

  8. I know all about those contest rules. My 8 year old and I were in Hot Topic during one of those DVD release parties when we saw the sign and she made me read the part over and over again that read MUST BE 14 YEARS OF AGE to make sure I wasn't making a mistake that she couldn't enter. She was crushed!

  9. Wow...I watched Rachel's video first, and then tried to watch the winner's. I couldn't get past the first few seconds. You're right. They obviously don't know their target audience. RACHEL, contact LTT and thanks for your submission. It was beautiful.
