New Moon: Better Than Twilight??? Fingers Crossed!

cricket...cricket...cricket...

I know that nobody is here right now... Like me, you are all off watching MTV's VMAs, wondering what the fuck happened to you and why the hell are you watching the VMAs and who the hell ARE all these freaking people anyway?! Your S/O has probably been rolling their eyes at you and/or giving you the stink-eye all weekend long, and the night is still [relatively] young. You may have had to make the gut-wrenching decision as to whether you were going to watch the season finale of True Blood OR watch the VMAs, and those of you with Tivo are gratefully kissing their electronics in very inappropriate ways right now (present company included).

Having spent much more of the weekend than I am willing to admit watching the NEW New Moon trailer and making a vow to spend the rest of my living days walking in front of Chris Weitz so that I can sprinkle the earth with rose petals prior to his hallowed feet passing over it, I am left wondering what do I really want in New Moon??? Truth be told, I just want a better movie. Period. Is that too much to ask? I don't think so...

I am cautiously optimistic about New Moon. But then again, I LOVED the Twilight trailer - it only hinted at the fact that the movie wasn't going to be all that... And JJ and I ran off together numerous times to see Twilight in the theaters and then bought multiple copies when it came out on DVD (and have rewatched countless times since), but it was still a disappointment on some level. I think the first few times I rewatched it I was secretly hoping that it would somehow get better and become the movie I had envisioned. But it didn't. Don't get me wrong - I love that movie! But it was a let down in some ways. And I want more - I demand more! - from New Moon.

The little effed-up details were not what kept me from enjoying it, but the videos below from SkyAstrid13 do a great job of poking fun of all the little mistakes in Twilight.

Chris Weitz, we hope you had a bigger budget to hire staffers to keep track of shit like this than Catherine Hardwicke did, because there were a LOT of faux pas in Twilight... Continuity is important, people!

Hope you guys find these funny - I know I did! Plus it helped me pull my attention away from the New Moon trailer and the VMAs for a few seconds...

In case you missed it, here's the full-length trailer with the additional footage from tonight -

And here's the awesome new Death Cab for Cutie song that's going on the soundtrack -

Wow!

Happy Monday, everyone! Hopefully Jenny Jerkface will have some stories from her trip to Red Rocks/Monolith to share with us! I know--I missed her, too...

  1. I think its really just going to rock. Someone else commented once that when we all finally have the box set of Twilight, we'll watch "Twilight" and all go "what the FUCK was that" even though we all love it!
I think New Moon is just going to be amazing, way more so than Twilight and that's not a bad thing!

  2. If the leaked script I read a few months back is real (and every indication points to it being true)..then I am afraid we are all in for a disappointment story line wise....

  3. @Anon - go on - what do you mean??? I thought that all the directors were pretty much committed to staying true to the books??? Obviously there are some things in the trailer that don't stay 100% true to the book, but spill the details if you've got them! Twitarded minds want to know...

    : )

  4. This is exactally how I feel! I keep watching it hoping that something will jump out and shock me into the same kind of love that I have for the books! I hope wih everything in me that New Moon will redeem us die hard book lovers and give us what we want and deserve!!!

  5. HA! I love reading this blog because it is so true to my life -- it is hilarious. I sat watching the VMAs with the husband and I was so embarrassed because I didn't know half of the people in the audience once madonna and janet jackson left the stage. Then I realized that RPattz wasn't even alive when Thriller was released and AUGH.....until that trailer! Holy Fuck I couldn't breathe. There's no way that NM won't be 1000 times better than Twilight.

Thank you for showing the trailer here so I could watch it over and over and over again this weekend. I was better prepared for watching it with the husband. It saved me from drooling like an idiot in front of him.

  6. @melp - glad to be of service! hadn't thought about it like that but i guess there is something to be said for desensitizing yourself before the big event!

plus it slays me that your avatar is mini-e prairie-dogging it at MY office - lol! priceless - love it!

    p.s. matt taibbi rocks!

  7. GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!! I'm fucking back to civilization and can FINALLY watch the NM trailer which STY is clearly obsessed with it. I mean, is it actually posted multiple times?

Anyhoo, I'm so fucking excited to see it and I squeed and squealed and ML looked at me and asked 'don't you want to take your backpack off?' So yeah, I basically made a beeline for the computer the second I walked in the door.

@STY - You did awesome, dudette. I heart you.

  8. did JJ get to see the trailer tonight? that would suck if she missed not only the leak, but the actual unveiling of the trailer

  10. @JJ - WHAT?!? I only posted three or so different versions - you gotta problem with that?! Don't make me come over there - EVERYONE was obsessed this weekend - well, those of us who didn't have a suite at the Bates Motel, anyway...

    Welcome back, whore flaps!

    : )

    I missed you so...

  11. STY, I felt the same way about the Twilight movie! I saw it 4 times in the theater and bought the 3 disc DVD. When I watch it now, some parts make me cringe BUT I STILL WATCH IT OVER AND OVER hahaha. I have a good feeling about New Moon! Of course, if it sucks, we'll all still love it!

    ReplyDelete
  12. The NM trailer looks sooooo good...I just keep saying to myself "Please let the movie not suck." Didn't get to see the VMAs had to wait till it was posted here. I'm ok...now.

Welcome back JJ! Have pix? Please share!

  13. OME! I've been visiting other sites that have screen caps from the newest trailer and all people (girls) are talking about is the color and model of Edwards car... SERIOUSLY!!!

  14. I have to admit, I'm lost on the whole VMAs. I picked the wrong weekend to go away, apparently. I will have to try to catch up tomorrow because I am freaking beat.

Plus, I need to watch to trailer again. And again. Hell, I might even pop in the movie at this point...

@STY - I missed you bunches, you silly donkey cunt.

  15. @JJ, glad to have you back!!! FTR, STY posted it so many times because we all watched it incessantly and LOVED the different versions!!!

The biggest twilight mistakes that bothered me were the nasal canula tubes, not only did they keep changing place, but, no medical person would EVER put them on like that!!! Half the time they were covering her eyes! The others were mostly because of things not matching up with the books, like Rosalie eating at lunch (instead of all cullens staring off not looking at eachother and not eating), that the swans ate at the diner all the time, etc.

I keep hearing about how terrible the plot line is according to a leaked script earlier this year, but, no one will say why it's bad. I think they're just reading and repeating rumors!!

either way, there's NO WAY it'll be worse than twilight!!!

  16. I am a 'glass half full' kind of person and I have faith that it will be loads better. Everything indicates that it will be. Will it be a great movie? I dunno. I am still not convinced that all these people can actually act well--Ashley's performance made me cringe a bit. Does this mean I haven't had my heart racing since the bootlegged trailer was released? Hells no. I have been squeeing along with everyone and watching repeatedly.

I was almost just as obsessed during the making of Twilight and had resigned myself that it was not going to be great--I was pleasantly surprised at some things and tragically disappointed at others--I still need someone to explain to me how it is possible that they fucked up the Meadow scene sooooooo freakin bad in Twilight--I mean the one scene that had to be just right--it nearly ruined it for me. Thankfully I liked so many of the little things that were added especially Charlie--he saved that movie for me...hence my name.

Anyhoo, loved the videos with all the mess-ups. I think I was meant to be a continuity expert because many of these I caught watching the movie the first time--some were new to me. I don't think I saw the mess-up of being able to see the edges of the contacts in Edward's eyes during the close-ups--I think I literally groaned out loud in the theater.

In the end, we are all going to see it multiple times and buy the DVDs but I still secretly hope that it will be something the Mr. VitaminR might actually enjoy--he only liked Twilight with the commentary on.

Welcome back JJ--we missed you! STY was awesome--I tried to squee loudly enough from the west coast so that we could squee together. Now go watch that trailer again! Mmmmmm pasty Pecksward.

  17. The New Moon trailer makes me all giddy and twitarded. My vagina smiles every time the shirtless Edward clip pops up. I can barely contain myself I am so psyched about this movie!

The Death Cab for Cutie song is not my favorite by them but I like it. It's better than Paramore. Nuff said.

Welcome back JJ. STY did a fab job holding down the fort.

  18. I also noticed that the "film is not yet rated". That gives me a small glimmer of hope (however slim it may be) that future saga movies may be rated R. Please.....just a little rated R. Just the tip. Just to see how it feels.

  19. So, I watched the VMA's just in hopes of seeing the cast, Ashley Greene do the fashion report on the red carpet, and the hope of seeing the DCFC song & the trailer (of course!).
LOVED the trailer--the cast came on and my husband said: "Are they all vampires? That one guy isn't pale enough!"
Me: "No, he'll be a werewolf by the end of this movie."
Husband: "Huh? (during the trailer) Which ones are vampires? Werewolves? Oh! The shirtless Native American guys!"
Me: "Me, the girl, driving the car in Italy w/ the steering wheel on the wrong side, she's a vampire."
Husband: "Shirtless Werewolves?! No wonder everyone is so worked up over these movies!"

    Uh. Yeah!

Veri-word: allif Sort of like As If--except stating the OBVIOUS!

  20. was i the only one who was expecting a little more Robward at the VMAs? no red carpet interview? no random shots of him during the show?? none??? no him and Kstew doing unidentifiable things in the shadows?? nothing?!?! i feel underwhelmed.

...none the less, i enjoyed the 10 seconds of him we got to see...AND THE WHOLE TRAILER!! :) ...and Kstew's upgraded hair do.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Did anyone else think Rob looked a bit tipsy when he got up on stage to introduce the trailer?? Yum, LOVE tipsy Rob -- better for me to take advantage of him!! And I agree with the lack of face time... every time that 'tard host Russell Brand said his name, I expected a nice shot of him - fucking nothing! Oh well, must watch trailer in full screen mode on my big giant mac over and over again today!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm bummed, too - I sat through a lot of crap - and fast-forwarded through a lot of crap! - hoping to see them more. how come they didn't sit in the audience??? i guess i get it; if i was them i wouldn't want to be under the magnifying glass like that with their every gesture being noted, disected and analyzed... that said, i wanted to be able to not, disect, and analyyze their every move!

@mmMoxie - "just the tip" - hahahaha!!! I want that too - just a lil' naughty! but i would imagine that they are going between PG and PG-13... Stephenie Meyer has never seen a rated R movie in her life so I would say there's no chance of any of her books being made into a R-rated movie. but we can hope...

  23. You took the freakin’ words right out of my mind STY! You are wonderfully brilliant!!

(Once I saw the extended trailer, I turned that VMA shit off! I felt like bit of an whore honestly…subjecting myself to that chaos of a show just to catch the New Moon trailer that actually has nothing to do with music videos in my opinion. Is it b/c I’m now in my thirties? Or is it really a horribly produced awards show full of people trying to be funny but really looking like asses?? I’d shamefully do it again though to catch that adorable glimpse of Rob, Kristen, and Taylor onstage. Kristen honestly looked gorgeous. And Rob always makes me drool no matter what he’s wearing or saying!!!).

    WELCOME BACK JJ!!!! We all missed you!!! =}

  24. Last night was the holy grail of vampires/hot men I'd like to dirty things for. We watched True Blood (fantastic!!) and then fast forwarded through most of the VMA's. I agree...who were all those people? Am I just old and out of touch?

I bribed my best friend with ice cream to stop saying mean shit about Rob, and even he said the trailer looked "not too shitty." I am so freaking excited...I may spontaniously combust before November 20.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The VMAs are'nt being shown here till tonight, and I've got the Sky+ (that's our Tivo) set up so I can fast forward through that Russel Brand wanker. Yay Sky+! And don't feel old for not knowing who everyone is, ladies. I'm only 24 and I bet I won't know who half the losers are because I don't listen to/watch shitty music.

Veri-word: inguntis. Is it just me, or does that sound like a serious gynaecological condition? 'I'm sorry miss, but you've got inguntis. It's caused by lack of actually shagging Rob Pattinson after drooling over his pictures.'

    ReplyDelete
  26. I hadn't really watched the VMAs since the 90s ;) Sure, I've seen clips over the years or watched bits on TV, but last night was the first time I'd sat and watched it almost straight thru. It was truly embarrassing to watch -- and I live alone!! I have no one to be embarrassed by! Considering everything, it wasn't too terrible in the end, just lame. Madonna's MJ speech was just plain weird. Janet Jackson's MJ "tribute" was lame. All the musical acts were just YAWN. None of these people are my type of music by any means, but I respect musicians in general. That said, lip-synching, covering yourself in blood, and doing acrobatics on stage does not make you a musician. It makes me so sad that people can't just SING anymore and be considered a musician! All-in-all, it was worth it just to see that trailer! I thought "HOLY SHIT" over and over and over again as I watched it and rewatched it... HOLY SHIT indeed!! I truly don't think we have anything to worry about...

  27. I totally agree that Twilight was a disappointment. After reading the Twilight book in 24 hours I ran to Redbox at 11:00 at night to get the movie and watched it and was sooo disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it did not stop me from buying the DVD and watching it like 12 more times. But I am really excited about New Moon and it seems like it will be so much better.

  29. One word sums the VMAs up for me . . . disappointing.

It was disappointing that Rob and Kristen boycotted the red carpet, their "fashion" costar Ashley, and their seats.

It was disappointing that Kanye West wasn't tackled to the ground by security before he ever made it to the top of the stairs.

It was disappointing that Rob didn't wear the new Stoli shirt (what a wink-wink moment that would have been!).

It was disappointing that we didn't get to hear Rob talk more because I, too, thought we were getting to see a tiny bit of Drunk Rob which was awesome.

It was disappointing when it finally sunk in that we weren't going to get to drool over tons of new pictures and slideshows set to music in the morning.

It was disappointing to know that when I finally went to sleep, I would not wake up and have it miraculously be November 19th.

    *heavy sigh*

    Lisa

P.S.: Welcome back, JJ! We missed you and can't wait to hear what you have to say about everything.

  30. You can already tell it is going to be better just by the way it looks in the trailers and by the way it is shot. Of course they use creative license to juice it up a bit, the volturi fight scene looks awesome, so hopefully the things they did will enhance it and not take away. I can't wait, I already have my tickets for the midnight showing and am taking your advice JJ and STY.

  31. Oh me oh my, I loved that longer one even more!!! I have to say, I LOVE Edward, I really do, but the Wolf Pack sends shivers down my spine- in a GOOD way!!!

    CAN NOT WAIT!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey I've said it before and I'll say it again...the biggest mistake in Twilight is Victoria. SHE IS VISIBLE IN AT LEAST TWO SHOTS FROM PROM. Shouldn't Edward be able to smell her even if he can't see her? Check it out people!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Quick question- does Jacob say "he didn't want you" in the book? I've read it twice, I'm searching now, but I just don't remember that. Someone help me out!

    ReplyDelete
  34. ok I'm going to have to comment twice because I have to get this one out fast @mmMoxie I'm so LOLn at your "just the tip, just to see how it feels line" way to bring me back to high school LOL! love it

  35. Twilight the movie was a dissapointment - specifically the meadow scene. What an epic fail. But there were bonuses - I mean RPattz is way hotter than the Edward I had in my head. I'm way pumped for New Moon, because I can't wait to see Bella get all EMO on us. There is no way that it can be worse . . . right? (Just lie to me if you think otherwise)

I always wonder why Twilight the movie let us down. Is it because no movie however good, will live up to the book?

I look at it this way, I've heard drug addicts say that their first high is always the best, and from then on they are always "chasing that high". Think back to the first time you read Twilight. The sleepless nights, the wet panties the first time Bella was dazzled by Edward. Will we ever really get that same feeling ever again? I mean I will keep trying for as long as I live, but I'm just not sure if it will ever be as good as the first time (sung to that Sade tune)

  36. @Cheryl: You summed up perfectly exactly how I felt watching the VMAs -- like a whore. Fucking hilarious. There is no other way to describe my willingness to watch that train wreck.

@Latchkey Wife: Rob was definitely tipsy and Ksten was also. She clearly was completely different than her appearance at the MTV Movie Awards -- she just wasn't wound as tightly as she was in June. But I agree he was intoxicated and utterly adorable. Yummy.

@STY: Your Mini-E prairie doggin' it was the funniest thing I have ever read on your blog and it made me spit out my coffee on my keyboard and piss my pants when I read it -- literally. The highest compliment I can give is to make it my avatar because it is so fucking hysterical. I can laugh just thinking about it now.

and Matt Taibbi does rock. There is something so hot about a bad boy gone good...

@JJ: WELCOME BACK. Your excessive swearing and inappropriate leering was missed.
