Will THIS Help Us Pass The Time 'Til 11/20? Maybe...

The "Made to Entice Twifans" cover of The Haunted Airman - is this even from the movie???

Let me preface this by saying that I am not 100% sure on all the facts here, so bear with me, correct me where need be, all that good stuff... And, um, yeah I know that I have been whoring out the blog to YouTube lately, but JJ is actually without computer access at the moment [and yes, I start to hyperventilate every time I think about this, too] with the exception of her Blackberry. Hopefully, she'll be around tomorrow to entertain ya'll with her bad ol' self [note to JJ's boss: please don't expect her to to work-related stuff on Monday. She has much more pressing bloggy/Twilight-related stuff to catch up on. You're a doll - thx!]. I am sure that she has a LOT of cursing and general smuttiness to catch up on given how long she's been absent...

Anyhoo, Robert Pattinson's 2006 made-for-TV movie The Haunted Airman comes out on dvd this Tuesday! I think I am kind of excited. I know that we have thrown Rpatts' acting chops under the bus with alarming frequency here at Twitarded [we pick 'cause we love!], and I think that this will give us a chance to really see what's what. Oh and yeah there's that scene where he's all nekkid in the tub. And in general he just looks gorgeous in the stills I have seen. Plus - bonus! - it's a BBC film and I can actually say it's a "film" and not a "movie" without chortling to myself!!

I haven't pre-ordered this, but I think I will go ahead and buy it - nobody buys birthday presents for me better than me! Seriously, the entire month of October, I rationalize any unnecessary purchases with the b-day thing. I just give Mr. Snarky a running list of all the stuff he's kinda bought for me but didn't have to go through the trouble of shopping for and everyone is happy. I know this system isn't particularly romantic but fuck it, flowers are overrated and it works for us. Win-win!

I actually became more interested in The Haunted Airman after I came across this video the other day, since it's set to a song I really love (if you haven't seen the video for Gary Jules' Mad World, I highly recommend checking it out here!) -

Here's the "official" trailer -

I'm not sure how I'm gonna get through the next 39 days, but I think this might help.

The ratings are mixed... At IMDb, I was reading some of the reviews and they give a breakdown of members who have rated it by age and gender. Um, not surprisingly, the chicks dig it a lot more than the dudes. Also not surprisingly, the women in my age group rank it highly, second to only the under-18 set.

What do you think?? Have you seen this?? Do you want to see it??? Are you going to buy it??? Oh - and are you afraid of spiders??? Then this might not be the flick for you!

  1. Well I´ve seen it, I got the DVD from England same code as Germany ;) It is slightly weird, the story sardistic in a way , I just feel so sorry for him- The spiders are another matter, normally I am not really squeamish but there are a whole lot of them. I had to take to tries to finish it. So , eh, take it or leave it . I don´t know if I will watch it, but that is just me I guess, I don´t like it if people are suffering at the hands of others.

  3. Ok...#1. I have seen this movie (illegally downloaded it) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rob looks H-O-T in it and his acting is pretty good considering it's a tv movie. I do plan on buying it and I do recommend it. Pass on Little Ashes. 'shudder'

#2. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the song Mad World, including the original Tears for Fears version. Gary's is in constant rotation on my iPod. Love Love Love Donnie Darko too.

  4. I've seen it. I recommend that you watch it at least once. It's not exactly the best acting there is - if you get my drift - but, hell, it's Robert Pattinson so who cares about the acting much! Haha! I actually liked his acting better in The Bad Mother's Handbook. That movie really surprised the heck out of me (in a good way) and even made me cry! If you're truly an RP fan, which we all truly are, you should get it, watch it and then keep it safe in the RP shrine! :-)

  5. Wow, that looks like an intense movie! I will DEFINITELY watch it. The Mad World video totally sparked my interest. I'll get to see a darker side of Rob for sure. I watched How to Be last weekend and gotta see how he pulls of this role.

  6. I usually like movies like this. Dark and twisty...my favorite.
And holy shit in a bucket I love Donnie Darko and have been in love with Mad World since I saw that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm intrigued. I definitely don't like creepy-crawly things, nor do I wanna see RP being hurt. (gah-the desolation on his face in the New Moon shirtless stills...I'm already crying!). Anyway, I've discovered Redbox, which is a vending machine where you can rent movies for a dollar. So, first day I have to myself after the kids have gone to school, I'm going to run out and rent Haunted Airman.

And I haven't seen Little Ashes, but I've watched a lot of the YouTube scenes and I gotta say, I expected to be creeped out but I was surprised to discover that Rpattz is HOT kissing anyone-even another guy!

  8. First disturbing thing, I am in the age group of the 30-44. Really I have to realize that I am not anymore in my 20s.. somehow seeing it makes it more real.
    Anyway.
Although I am 31, I am easily scared by films like this. That´s why I am not sure if I gonna see it. I need to find someone holding my hand when I see it...

  9. @Hannah - thanks for the spoiler alert?!

  10. Yes please! I want to see this. I have seen all his other movies (except this one) and I have very mixed opinions but like you said STY it is the BBC for crap's sake--it can't be that awful.

I, for one, thought Rob did a great job in Little Ashes. I did not love the movie as a whole but I thought he was decent in it and when you add in the tuck and the kissing Javier well that moves it up a few notches in my book.

That video was fabulous to Mad World--love that song--original and this version.

  11. I also watched it through less than legal means :) and it's really good. It's creepy as all get-out, quiet and unassuming, but it feels very realistic (I imagine this is what it would feel like to a) be one of these airmen and b) be in a place like this).
Keep in mind it IS a bbc production, which means slow, quiet and thoughtful--its no action movie. Julian Sands is an outright WEIRDOOOOO but our beloved RP plays his role (I thought) with unassuming prowess-like he did in How to be, and despite the flaws in the movie Twilight in general, I thought his Edward was pretty spot on too.
Someone above HAS given away too much unfortunately, but I'd still recommend a watch-especially on a quiet night/day on your own--makes it even more creepy :)

    enjoy!

PS JJ goodluck with the move and other real life dramas, I'm in the middle of a similar situation and Twitarded keeps me smiling when nothing else can!!

  12. Wow! I really liked that Mad World video. It made me want to 1) watch Donnie Darko again, and 2) see this film! It looks very artsy and thoughtful. Women in my age range gave it an 8 - must. watch. rpatts.

  13. he sure as hell doesn't wear alot.. and who's that bitch that gets to touch him. DAMMIT. i will be watching it.. creepy movies don't get to me.

  14. Thanks for the Bday wishes all you Twitards! <3
I'm so with you STY on "the entire month of October...is my birthday" :D

I have not watched this. I'v seen clips, but the whole spiders coming out of the drain in the tub - That creeps the hell out of me! If I did watch it, I SO could not step foot in the shower for like a month and some.
And nobody loves a stinky/sketched out Track 10.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hm, I'd like to watch it - I love diabolical films like that - and I love Julian Sands - but the whole spider thing is holding me back. I am freaked out by them as it is. Brrr!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Let's face it, we would watch a two hour-movie about dentists if the main role was played by R. And in here we have him naked!!

Said that, I have watched it twice and sort of liked it ("like" for such a twisted thing wouldn't be a very appropriate verb... perhaps?)I think there is more to the theme that meets the eye, and the ambiance is perfect.

love your site by the way, and here "love" is a perfect verb ;)

    ReplyDelete
  17. hey, it's out over here (Dublin,Ireland) since around April/May. I thought it was quite good, weird, but good. I think I'm being slightly biased though as Rob was in it. If it was a random (not stunningly gorgeous!) actor I probably would've just thought it was weird :) Lots of Rob to ogle at tho!

    ReplyDelete
  18. This DVD has been out in the UK for some time now and Ive watched it about twice. It it well odd and definitely creepy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @STY: I agree with "nobody buys birthday presents for me better than me!".
Besides saving one's hubby a lot of shopping stress, we save ourselves haveng to put on a face that says "lovely" when we are thinking "What the Forks??!!".

When I saw Julien Sands I just thought "this is going to be twisted", like most of is films (yeah, I like Julien Sands; so JS+RP=bonus!)

And the video is waaaay too revealing...

    Kisses.

  20. It looks creepy, a good thriller for halloween maybe? I just saw that this was coming soon to those red box rental things, so I think I'll rent it for $1 (not because I think it's going to be bad but I'm trying to not spend a lot of money on dvds because I tend not to watch them over and over again.)

  21. Preordered and according to the confirmation email I got from Amazon.com on Friday, it has been shipped. Can't wait, although I didn't realize the spiders were such a factor. Thank God for fast forward.

Actually, I have preordered everything I can get my hands on which, to date, also includes Little Ashes and How To Be.

@CTB - I have looked into buying a region code-free DVD player so that I wouldn't have to wait for the U.S. releases. I take it The Good Mother's Handbook is available in the UK. What about The Summer House? I may have to get serious about the DVD player.

    Have a good Monday all!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I for one can't wait to watch hot Rob in a creepy movie. I like twited movies, so this seems right up my alley. =)

The Haunted Airman is #1 on my Netflix Q as soon as it becomes available. Yay!

I also want to see the Good Mother's Handbook and The Summer House as soon as it becomes availabe in the US.

Here's a thought, I wonder how it will be watching Rob on the big screen in New Moon after reading all that wonderful Lemoney fanfic recently. I think I'll wear a ShamWow skirt and will probably internally combust right there in my seat... Gah! 38 days 17 hours and counting...!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Hannah - sorry, but I am gonna remove your comment - I haven't seen it, and a lot of others haven't either, so you gave a little TIM - no hard feelings!

    : )

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh - and I'd love to see Bad Mother's Handbook - is that available in the States? Amazon? I am a total dolt and while I know you can download (legally or illegally) just about anything, I have no clue how to do it and would probably mess something up if I tried... Don't mind shelling out a few bucks if I can get it here but don't remember seeing it last time I checked... Better go take another look!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I put "The Haunted Airman" in my Amazon shopping cart a couple of months back, and have been waiting for the ship date. In the meantime, Amazon informs me that the price went up by about 6 bucks...Must be the demand caused by all us Twitards wanting to see our Robby Goodness nekked. I claim pure scholarly research here. I'm getting my PhD in RPattz and his loveliness. Maybe this will help pass the time between now and Nov. 20??? Sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  26. This really doesn't look like something I want to watch, but I think that I'll buy it, scan through the good parts and then slowly watch the rest.

@Twichotic---I think that you should patent Shamwowish skirts and sell them online, I know that I'm gonna need one... or twenty, depending on how many times I get to the theatre. :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. I bought this movie from Amazon.co.uk months ago and will buy it in Region 1 as soon as it comes out.

This is an episode of BBC's Ghost Stories, and I loved it!! Even my dear husband thought the acting was good. He also said he could see why everyone thinks Rob is so handsome. Rob is just starkly beautiful in this film and it shows his facial "bones", like that JAW!! I have watched it a few times and will watch it again. It's more of a psychological thriller than a ghost story, but very intense. The book it was adapted from has a lot more details that would make this even scarier. Julian Sands worked with Rob in "Dark Kingdom", but this is a much better vehicle for them to interact.

If you decide to watch it, keep in mind this is not supposed to be a teen flick or sexy or anything like that. The airman is haunted for a reason.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The trailer didn't make me want to see it, but the video sure did! I really don't care for creep crawly things, and the pic with the spider on his face is a little...er...freaky. I do plan to see it though, if for no other reason than he's in it (and naked!)

@Twichotic - Shamwow Skirt...you freaking slay me! Perhaps you better tell whoever you're going with to bring a small fire extinguisher for when you combust and set the theatre seat on fire. Oh, wait...she can just ring out your shamwow skirt and put out the fire...ewww.

  29. Netflix: man's greatest invention for people like me too cheap to fork out bucks for movies they may not want to watch 100 times, and who's house is exploding with crap such as piles of assorted papers, laundry, kids shoes, and an extensive cd collection. Yes, I still buy cd's. I like to hold it in my hand and I actually read all the stuff that comes in it. iTunes downloads are not for me. I love wierd movies, such as Wild at Heart, Pulp Fiction, and anything by the Coen brothers, so I may have to buy Haunted Jawporn at a later date.

@Lulu - I agree, if Rob was filmed for 2 hours just digging dirt, I would watch it. Actually, that sounds pretty good, shirtless Rob, digging dirt, sweaty, up and down, shovel in, out, oops, getting off track here. You get the idea.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Haven't seen it yet, but BBC made-for-tv movies tend to be a lot better quality than American ones. Sorry, but it's true. Must see if they have it at my local rental store. Mmmm, naked Rob...
I'm actually a big horror movie fan, so I think I can handle some spiders coming out of a drain, you wusses. ;)

  33. Hey darling STY! I am very sad to say that I have very real arachnophobia. I screamed (not in a good way) when I saw that Picture with RPattz and the Monster. *shivers* No HA for me, I guess.
Anyway hon, we love your videos as we love JJ's mouth (or keyboard for what it matters) and mind and unstoppable cursing. Don't be too sad for throwing those vids on us. I personally live in MY bubble called med school (no, Carlisle's twin's not teaching us - too bad, huh? I thought so myself, but could you blame any female for failing his classes just to have another semester with Dr. Cullen? Me neither, so it's good for me if I ever want to graduate. Rant over.) and never get a chance to catch up. You're actually the only blog I follow so I'm very happy for your vids and JJ's very special point of view on things that make my day.
If it helps you any, in my country, NM is coming on theaters in effing 1/ effing 7/ 20 effing 10. Yes. Next FUCKING year. So, if you thing you've got it bad, think about us poor Greek girls (I didn't mention I'm Greek, did I? Or 18? Please don't kick me out for being too young. I'll behave. Promise) who have to wait 3 looooooong months instead of 1 1/2 to get their long-awaited fix. Life sucks. I know best.
My love to all you gals. JJ, when you read this, I can feel your pain, I moved last month. I think I speak on behalf of all the collective blogsphere when I say: "WE LOVE YOU AND CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU TO COME BACK! TAKE CARE AND DON'T LET IT BREAK YOU! YOU'RE STRONGER THAN A BUNCH OF BOXES" (You could ask FSE to help. Isn't he moving? Or is he staying with STY?)

Wonder if it will be available on BluRay. Because Rob + Naked x High Definition = One very happy Mama Cougar.

  61. Well.... I've seen the Haunted Airman now. It was an interesting movie. I agree that it was a teeny bit slow, but I was captivated by Robert. I'm glad it was only 60 minutes long... and I really really think he did a great job. Thank god! He did a nice job acting all creepy and freaky. It was kind of a sad story too.

And the fact that his jaw and hands were prominently displayed throughout the entire movie (as well as his back and chest) was a HUGE bonus!

I REALLY look forward to the day to see Robert in a really GREAT movie. The poor guy hasn't really been in a good one so that he can shine. Yes, The Goblet of Fire was a fantastic movie...and honestly I think his little bit parts as Cedric were GREAT! SO... let's hope that New Moon is GREAT so he can shine! And I hope Remember Me is good too!

I'm also looking forward to seeing him act with Hugh Jackman in that other movie.

Anywho... back to my point. I was really pleased with Robert's performance in the Haunted Airman!!!

  62. I have the DVD now, but am still waiting for the right time to watch it (ie: no family hovering around to interrupt or make rude comments). I'l take Rob any way I can get him (and I do mean that lit'rally), but am also looking forward to seeing him in other movies where he can really show off his acting chops as more of a normalish character - although who could ever refer to him as simply "normal"..?

  63. I find myself altogether pissed that in that first vid, the guy is kissing the woman, then when she resists, he slowly slits her throat, and then resumes kissing her while she bleeds to death. I mean, WTF?! D= And no, this is most definitely not the film for me. That just ticked me off. -.-
