Twitarded on CNN - The F-Bomb NOT Heard 'Round the World [but it was hard...]

Oh Twilight saga (and Edward!) how we love thee...

Sorry to stray away from our normal (ha!) posts today, folks! We have just a few things we need to address...

As many of you know, STY and I were recently contacted by CNN to do a piece on "older women" who are bat-shit crazy about Twilight. Ahem. I don't think they put it as bluntly as that but whatever.

CNN was very nice to us. They could have really thrown us under the bus but... they got it [and us] and we are so happy that finally someone has written an article that doesn't paint us all as crazy pudges with limited mental capacity who wear muumuus while eating bon bons and lamenting over the fact that our husbands do not look exactly like Robert Pattinson.Or Edward. Or that they don't sparkle...

Don't worry JJ & STY - I'll never let anyone throw you under the bus. I feel... very protective of you.

Anyway, because I was all excited that I was in a paper [fiiine, it was online but paper sounds better] and it's not because I did something illegal I sent that shit to my folks.

I mean, it's not every day I get to be like "Hey, Mommy (not a)Jerkface, check out this interview that STY and I did and I TOTALLY never said fuck, vagina or poop!! Not even once!! Now, where the fuck is my gold star? WHERE IS IT?!"

I didn't get a gold star but I did get an email from Mommy (not a)Jerkface...

Hi Sweetie,

Read the CNN article today . . . well done . . . bravo!!! Your comments (and STY's) were intelligent, mature and direct. I am so proud of you.

After reading the article and being the supportive Mom that I am, I ran out tonight and bought “Eclipse”. I’m trying really hard to understand why these books appeal to the mature woman (who are confident and all powerful ). I hate those words “older women” - it’s so negative... it conjures up the opposite which is “younger women” who are whiny and insecure... [this is a total jab at my teenage years, I think. Payback's a bitch.]

Ooh that sounds like “what’s her puss”! I’ve forgotten her name, you know--the twit from Twilight? Anyway, I digress. I will read Eclipse and hopefully this one will help me understand why “older women crave sparkly vampires”. I will keep you posted.

By the way, if this book really sucks, you owe me $7.99.

Love - Moo

First of all, it's pretty obvious that the apple does not fall far from the tree. Oh, and for those of you that don't know, M(na)J has some very "strong" feelings about Bella... and none of them are good.

Oh, M(na)J, how could you not love my angstiness? And twitching?

Which reminds me... Since there are probably a few people who read the article and came over here to lurk and possibly be totally freaking horrified we figured we'd be nice and provide links to some of the posts we consider our favorites. Hope you enjoy.

The Vampsicle (NSFW!!!)

Best Photo Shoot. Ever.

The time STY almost died from RPattz hawtness overload.

OMG, I totally remember this one. Freaks.

We've got Twitarded confessionals AND the best readers. Ever.

Of Twilight and Ka-Ka (and by ka-ka, I mean poop).

The Controversy in Breaking Dawn

Edward's adventures at SXSW

PerfumTwilighte - One part bile, two parts urine. Yummy!

Next line of business...

STY and I also recently did an interview with the Washington Post and I know quite a few of you were interviewed as well or at least had the opportunity to connect with the reporter (who thinks our readers are "amazing" btw - natch!). As soon as the article comes out we will post a link to it on Twitarded. We are very excited to hear what you all had to say!

Annnnd now I need to get back to trolling the interwebs for Robert Pattinson pictures...

JJ - I grew this beard just for you. I know how much you love some Scruffward...

  1. Not to sound too much like Mommy (not a) Jerkface but I, too, am so proud of you two!!!! I showed it to Mr.VitR and was all gleeful and saying, "Look! It's my Twitarded girls! How fucking rad is that?!" Even Mr. VitR thinks you have some street cred now that you have been interviewed by reputable news sources.

It is a great article and holy crap doesn't it feel good to finally get the word out that this whole Twilight thing goes far beyond 13-17 year olds? You represented us all well JJ and STY--your mommies done good.

Oh and thanks for posting that bearded Rob again JJ--you know that is my fave too. ;-)

  2. Can I just say that I LOVE when you post emails from Mommy (na) Jerkface! I can totally see where you get your spark! I envy your relationship!

And go ahead and ban me but RPattz totally looks like Timberlake with that beard, I'm just sayin'........

  3. You girls did us proud!!! LOVE the article.

  4. Can't believe that people still think Twilight is just for the teens. All the people I know who love it are over 30! Even my mum (age 76)has read all four books and thought they were great! ( She did have to have a few rests with Breaking Dawn, it was wearing her out, lol!) Not sure I would show her this site though, dont think she is quite ready for that!

@Abigail He is sooooo much sexier than J Timberlake!

  5. You both did awesome in the CNN article. Very well said. Um, you're starting to become quite famous. Maybe you can get corporate sponsors for Twitarded 2010?

  6. I think it's great that you are so out of the Twicloset. I am, but still really only with close family members and they don't really "get it". They think I am insane and not in a funny way either.

And about M(na)J views on Bella- my sis feels exactly the same way so I find myself constantly defending a fictional character (not that I mind of course).

  7. I love Mommy (not a) Jerkface. Think she'll adopt me? I promise not to embarrass her...

PS - my word verification is 'nocking' - as in... I wouldn't mind Rob Pattinson nocking me up!!

  8. I just read the article..well done ladies...I got overly excited that my two fave bloggers were inerviewed...however WTF since when is 31 "older"?!?!? I am 31 and I am FAR from mature...pish posh, makes me sound like my mom, who by the way is 51, fabulous and claims to be in line right behind my ass for a turn with RPatz

    lol

see I really do belong with you ladies!

  9. am i the only one the link to the article doesn't work for?

    bah!

  10. @janeisavamp - I had trouble too... it looks like the link has a double "http//" - just delete on and it should work fine.

  12. I don't care if I sound like M[na]J, because she's badass like that, and has my respect! I am so very proud of you guys, and am humbled to be represented by such classy ladies! I'm proud to belong to the Twitarded sisterhood, even if I'm mostly on lurker status... it's awesome to not feel alone, to be able to laugh with you all and at myself. I don't care if I sound like a gushy fangirl, but I love you all so much, just because around you all, I get to be me... a strong post-modern woman who is equal parts cougar-esque and Twitarded as well. Rock on!

  13. I'm glad to read and see articles like this that show that the reading group and fans are not all YA. It was a well done article and I hope it does bring you all more attention and more visitors who become regulars to your site.

It has been a true blessing for me to find people who were in heart with the saga as well. Being a person who doesn't have any RL friends who like Twilight - it is great to find a community of others to squee with and not feel so alone - sniff, sniff! Technically, I do have one RL friend who likes "Twilight" - she was the one who gave me the intro to the saga, but has kicked me & "Twilight" to curb because she is now all in lust with "The Host" - traitorous be-yotch.

  14. I was seriously proud of you when I read that article. You guys did a fantastic job of representing the non-insane over 19 twilight fans. It was finally nice to read an article that didn't make us out to be banshees.

  15. Yeah I saw the CNN article too - well done chickybabes!

I also know about the Australian one you mentioned a couple of days ago - coming out this Saturday I believe. I was the one who put the journalist onto you as to be honest, I think you do the mature/immature fandom proud. Having a dirty sense of humour is the most important thing. The Twimoms seem too serious and stepford wife to me, so I can't relate.

I think these more positive 'mature Twifan' stories are coming out because women working in the media are either into Twilight themselves or have friends who are. So they're being less judgmental. It's usually the male or younger femme journos who are creating this picture of the mu-mu wearing bon-bon chowing insane lady with 3 cats

Seeing NM tonight wearing my twitard T-shirt - squeeeeeee!

  17. Gold star indeed! Awesome job!

Now if you need RPattz and NM crew cussing a blue streak, this interview is for you!..a teaser - RPattz drink tea and saying Fuck.... :)

Umm how inappropriate/awesome would it be to have him saying "fuck" as the text msg. alert on my phone? ;) hummm

  18. Too bad Chelsea Handler isn't a Twilight fan. I'd love to see you two on the Chelsea Lately round table!

    as far as this quote:

"crazy pudges with limited mental capacity who wear muumuus while eating bon bons and lamenting over the fact that our husbands do not look excatly like Robert Pattinson"

so that's a bad thing? I just bought this muumuu!

  19. Oh, and my mom read the series but didn't fall for Edward either. She watched the movie and fell for Charlie! ewwww. I guess even Charlie needs some love.

  20. Proud Twitard right here!! You guys ROCK!

I'm so grateful that I stumbeled upon your blog last spring! Please keep up the awesome work!

    THANK YOU! :)

  21. I'll just say what I said on twitter to you gals:
    OOOOOOOOOOOOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was super excited for you!

  22. LOLOL!!! I read the article and you made us all look somewhat legit, and no so commitable...well done! I was PISSING myself reading your mother's letter...she has totally passed her "hysterical writing" gene down the pipe. I don't think my mother has ever used the word "digress", and she has DEFINATELY never wrote it.

P.S. I also love your Mom for obvious Stew reasons.

  23. Wow Ladies!!! Great job and congrats on the boost in publicity. You deserve LOTS of success.

I was impressed at the angle the story was totally positive. For once. I actually never knew that Twilight was a teen thing until the media started telling me. I just figured all the thirty-ish women loved it, because a bunch of my friends did too - and still do. Although, my obsession is a little worse, I think. I do constantly direct them to Twitarded, though.

I think my favorite part was the whole "it's all a big party and lots of fun" thing.

    So - no shit:

WordVerif: agginglo. As in, I'm aging-low as far as my maturity goes.

  24. @mmMOxie - I would LOVE to see the gals on Chelsea Lately - that would be hilarious.

  25. As you know, I already gave you some love on my blog after the article was posted online. SO fucking proud to be a card-carrying member of Twitardia (had a sudden urge to drop the f-bomb)!

Bonus that the article made Mommy (not a Jerkface) want to give Eclipse a try!!

So many great things about this post, but the best part are the links you rolled out for visitors. Genius! AND you linked to the classic ka-ka post. Love it!!

@mmMoxie - Good call on Chelsea Handler.

  26. You girls make me so proud to be a Twitard!! I might even say it out loud one of these days. For now it's just you, me, and the inside of my closet. :D

Aw, I love Mommy (not a ) Jerkface. Since I no longer have one, can I adopt yours? Eclipse is my favorite so maybe this one will be the one that hooks her.

Also, it was fun to take a stroll down memory lane. I think I need to go back and reread some of those great archives.

  27. @Fkat - It's going to be a long, lonely stretch between New Moon and Remember Me, so do yourself a favor and go through the Twitarded archives to keep your spirits up. When I first found them and asked a "Have you seen this before?" question in an email, STY said, "You need to read our archives, missy!" Which I did, from the beginning I might add, and it was well worth it.

  28. (writing first, reading posts later... It's late here; or early... sleepy...)

Love when you post email from your mom, JJ.
    Hi, Mommy(not a)Jerkface.

And love the way you introduce Twitarded to newcomers. It's like a test or an initiation; if they get past the first post, they're keepers. :)
    Welcome, newcomers.

P.S. Hope you win the auction; keeping my fingers crossed.

  29. LOVED THE CNN ARTICLE!!! Even though I had to swim through Twilight Moms to get to it. (no offense to TMs. Just like Twitards better!)

I'm like MNAJ. SO PROUD, SO PROUD!!!

  30. I LOVED the article! They really did a tasteful job on presenting us in the best light possible. It really did capture the essence of why I love Twilight and your blog.

You guys did great! Very proud to be a Twitarded groupie!
