Robert Pattinson Comic Fan-Zine Mash-Up!

By now you have probably all seen the soon-to-be released "Fame" comic book featuring Robert Pattinson, which is written by one of our oldest friends in the Twidom, Kim Sherman. Some of you old-timers (i.e. those of you who've been around for the last year - "Twilight Time" runs in dog years, or so it seems) may remember Kim as "Pillow Biter" and her blog of the same name. She's currently The Twilight Moonlighter and The Twilight Parents Examiner (and hopefully keeping your kids off of our blog). Recently, she's collaborated with comic book artists to put together a graphic Robert Pattinson fan-zine, and we're excited to see the finished product when it comes out in May!

The first cover image released grabbed my attention, and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was about it that seemed so familiar... Then BAM! I figured it out - and had to share!! Because maybe it was bugging you, too. We're all weirdos here [admittedly] and I'm sure at least a couple of you were scratching your heads along with me when you saw this -

Well hello there RPat... Edw... Ruh...Robward? Is that really you??

Yes, it is, in fact, Robward. More than anything else has ever been Robward in the history of all things Twilight-y.

Let me explain:

First you take a Twilight promo Edward pic...

Then you add a hearty dose of RAWR!!Robert Pattinson...
[I still heart you most of all, GQ Rob...]

Shake. Swivel. Stir. Aaaaaand...

It's Comic Book Robward!

Seriously, when I figured out why this drawing seemed so weird and yet so familiar, I think I may have let out a little fan-girl squeee!

Edward Cullen's body + Robert Pattinson's head = ROBWARD!

Take one Edward Cullen body, add one GQRob head, and WHAM! there you have it: FrankenRob! Thanks to Stoney at TwiSoup for her mad photoshop skillz! I'm going to owe her so many shots by the time we get to Forks that it's going to seem like a Twitarded hazing. In fact, cumulatively Jenny Jerkface and I are going to owe SO many people SO many shots that by the time that we get to Forks we're going to have to hire a scantily-clad Robert Pattinson impersonator dude to strut around with a vodka-filled holster just to keep up.

An alternate cover image of the comic has since been released:

Hmmm... You also look familiar...

aaaand I spend too much time doing google-image searches of Robert Pattinson.
I admit it and I'm ok with it. Say what you will.

Here's a page from the inside - click to enlarge -

I'm going to have to wait and see how this all turns out... I think that this page was designated "in progress" (see MTV for additional details) - and I'm not sure how I feel about the artist's representation of The Preh-tah... I DO know that Kim is a hard-core fan (and just plain awesome) and would never let anyone mess with RPatts... AND I know that there are a lot of massively talented graphic artists out there... But I also have reason to believe that not all of them are huge fans of Twilight (or the Twilight fandom)...

Of course, this isn't going to stop me from forking [ha!] over the dough to check this out. And I'll probably even love it! I mean, have you ever read our breakdowns of the movies? We loved those films to pieces and STILL managed to rake them over the flaming coals. Over and over and over again...

  1. I will probably be raked over the coals for this but I'm not diggin it, and I don't really get it.

  2. I love that last pic of the "Twilight RUINED Comic-Con!!" LOL!!!

I'm not sure how I feel about the comic book or fan-zine as you called it in the post. Do I want/need it for my collection of Robporn? Of course!

Thanks for matching the cover art up with the RL pictures!! You nailed him...er...it ;)

  3. Is it weird that the Twilight promo Edward pic still creeps me out?

  4. I used to tease (okay relentlessly harass) Mr. CC about his occasional comic book buying tendencies. I`d never live this down if I bought any of them!

  5. @mmMoxie - I see that! The key is typing a shorter comment, which I suck at!!!!

  6. @Lisa - short and sweet baby!

@CC - I plan on buying the Twilight Graphic Novel fo sho!

  7. I don't like that alternate cover picture at all but I love the first Robward picture.

  8. Hah! Way to go Mox!!!!

I was giggling when I saw the comic cover...they even managed to get his squishy nose just right. LMAO!

Will i have to buy it? OF COURSE!!!

  9. I will, of course, race out to buy the comic as soon as it's out cause I love me some Robward (and Darkward, and Tattward, and Copward, and Surfward, and all the other -wards out there thanks to fanfic)

  10. Seeing the "Frankenward" pic, as you so eleqaintly put it, makes me wish I had me some mad skills in the art depatment. Then I could create all the hot Frankenwards I want! Mwhahhahahhahah!! Ok, maybe it's best I don't. That power could go right to my head. Oh well.

  11. I'm impressed that you figured out the two photos so quickly. You are totally right that something strikes me as odd. Is it blasphemous of me that I like Vanity Fair Rob more than GQ Rob? Hence I don't like the cover very much but still happy that it's out.

  12. Argh!! I'm so glad I wasn't the only person to quirk an eyebrow at the Edward/GQ mashup picture. It just looks off...

  13. BTW, Why the hell is it colder here in NY than it is in FORKS??? WTF for Craps Sake!!!!

  14. Well I need to step in here and show some love because I am one of those old timers from the Pillow Biter days. In fact it was Kim that led me to Twitardia (thanks Kim!). I will definitely be buying this. I am just a tad jealous that Kim has been able to make some money from her Twi-obsession.......I think at the rate I am going I am losing money. Congrats Kim!

  17. I'm getting the Twilight comic book for sure. But this, I don't think so. It looks a bit creepy. I don't like that page. This is a thing for Rob to have, not us. I mean, we're going to obsess over obsessing with Rob? You know what I mean?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Even though I'm not feeling all the glory that is Rob, I'm interested in this comic. I love comics and would be interested in what they plan on doing. I think however then as STY stated, "forking over the dough," I'll just read it Midtown Comics.

  19. I've never been a big fan of the comic book but this looks like one I might like to stash under my pillow. If there's any room what with the GQ and VF residing there...

  20. I don't know how to say this without sounding mean AND I DON'T MEAN TO SOUND MEAN but I totally think you could take that second/alternate cover and turn it into Paint-By-Numbers-RPatts - lol. And I would totally buy that. Someone should really put me in charge of making merch because I would make EVERYTHING!! And it would all be awesome and we would all buy it. And then Mr. Snarky would have me committed. : )

    ReplyDelete
  21. @STY - I don't think he would commit you, you would be raking in the money and be richer than rich! He'd be the crazy one to lock you up with all your ideas.

  22. Twilight made Comic Con more awesomer!
That's what that damn sign shoulda said!

  23. I love comics but I'm not too sure about the art in this one - oh well, OK, to be honest, I definitely hate - oops I mean I don't like the art of the preview page. It makes Rob look ugly, which is quite a feat. Sorry for saying that. I'll wait a bit more to see if better pics surface before I decide. But I've just booked the Twilight Graphic Novel on Amazon, though. Oh, and thanks for unravelling the mystery of the first vaguely familiar cover pic... that was really good!

  24. I'm on the fence about this comic book.

I don't like the paint by numbers Rob picture, honestly I could do the same with Corel Draw Trace and get the same scary ugly image. No talent or skill involved there.

I know there are alot of talented graphic artists out there, but this just doesn't seem quite up to snuff to me. Being that I'm kind of an anal picky bitch in all...

I will keep an open mind and check it out when it hits the stores and decide for my self if I want it or not.

  25. I'm with red_bella on this...I'm going to wait and see it in person, but hopefully something better will be produced.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ok guys i expect to see your comics in that book too or else it doesn't worth buying lol!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ok....all that being said... WTF...I say WTF!!! is up with the hair???

How do you mess that up? It looks like he is wearing a freakin Bump It. Seriously, if his name wasn't covering it up, it would be even more glaring.

Bizarro...like those EW outtakes..seriously, how do you make this guy look bad? Total fail in my book...I would not buy anything with that cover shot on it. And that background??? Is he in the "mysterious wilderness" or a freakin' day spa??? Hello sea foam green! Jeezzzz..

    Ok Rant over ladies. :)

  28. Personally, I'm kind of creeped out at myself since I knew it was GQ Rob on Edward's body as soon as i saw it. I am such a creeper! :)

I'm all about bringing in the dough when one is creative enough to get it done, but it's not my thing. Way to go Kim!

  31. @STY - I was totally buy a RPatz paint by number kit. How about some Twilight gravel art kits while you're at it? I've been searching for gravel art kits everywhere! and macrame owls kits.

  32. btw...I don't mean to disrespect Pillow Biter. I remember her. I agree with Vitamin R....congrats on gettin payed! This just isn't my cup of tea. How about a comic about rabid Twitards?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yeah! I recognized it immediatly. Sad, I know. Vanity Fair Rob from December is my favorite. I love Robs tall body. GAH!

  34. STY- You ROCK for finding those pics- especially the beanie one!

LOL- I'll admit, as soon as I saw the first cover I thought it odd- totally Robward, which I'd never seen actually infused together before...and I knew exactly which 2 pics had been used. I was more scared of myself for knowing what pics inspired it than I was to see Robward in print.

So the page (it's page 3, btw- a sharp contrast to page 2; it'll all make sense in the end) is totally rough art; Nathan is really a great artist and will do the book justice. I promise. He just finished another one for me, so I've seen his work. But to recreate Rob is harder than you might imagine...

Haha- I told STY that I expected some snark on this site about the book... it is, after all, targeted towards a younger market of readers, but die-hards of the mature kind are the BEST and most honest, no matter how you cut it.

    Ya'll rock!! xoxo

  35. I find Robward materialized a bit disturbing, so I'm not a fan of the cover. I'd rather create Robward in my head!
