Eclipse: To Reread or Not To Reread - THAT Is The Question.

So depending on when you are reading this, Eclipse is only 40-something days away from lighting up a movie screen with Twilighty splendor, and I have a problem: I don't know if I absolutely positively MUST reread Eclipse before going to see the movie or if I definitely, no matter what, shouldn't pick up good ol' Book Three at any time between now and June 30th (which is just around the corner - SQUEEEEE!!!).

Understand that I have been...remiss in my Twilight reading cycle. It's been a while since I picked up any of the books. For a while, I had been reading a few chapters most nights before going to sleep, but lately I've been so exhausted that I just crash when my head hits the pillow and don't need to lull myself off to sleep with literary crack. And due to my Twilighty and bloggy OCD tendencies, my copy of Eclipse is filled with tons of tiny little post-its, slivers of paper, and other assorted place markers. Because during my last read-through, I stuck a little bookmark in there every time I came across something that I wanted to get back to later/discuss/blog about. And there were a LOT of passages like that... Most of them shared a common theme and could easily be collected and put into a post titled something along the lines of "Bella Is A Whiny Ungrateful Bitch Who Is Unworthy of Edward's Eternal Devotion" aka "Why The Fuck Is She So Upset About The Prospect of Marrying The Hottest Guy In The Universe?!" Yup, I may have been away from the book for a while, but to the best of my recollection, that sums it up nicely.

Must have been tough to find notes like this on your pillow. Brutal...

So I am not sure if I want to immerse myself back into "Book Bella" or if I should just wait and see what Eclipse Movie Bella brings to the table. Because Movie Bella [MB hereafter] is not entirely like Book Bella ["BB"]. MB is waaaay less whiny. Kristen Stewart said somewhere when talking about Eclipse that "Bella really knows what she wants in Eclipse." Which kinda surprised me because BB spends a whoooooole lotta time agonizing over Jacob as I recall (something that continues almost entirely unabated right up until that little half-breed gnaws it's way out of what's left of BB's uterus). I swear the last time I started reading Twilight from the start I stopped to take a quick look at the cover to make sure I wasn't reading a parody of some sort. As much as I adore the Saga, I had so many "Really?! WTF REALLY?!?" moments when I read Eclipse that it's hard to believe that my panties had room to get any more bunched up throughout Breaking Dawn (lo and behold, they did, but that's another story... not to mention the seething, hissing phone calls to Jenny Jerkface, who I called all sort of terrible names for forcing me into this delicious yet terrible and very real addiction).

So I am torn... Reread the book, or just go into the movie without having the book fresh on my mind??? I'm a little behind already, but there's still time to catch up with The Danger Magnet's pre-movie book discussion! Or to just tear though it on my own in under 24 hours like I did the first time around... Let me know what your movie/book-y pre-gaming plans are in the comments! Because Jenny Jerkface wants to borrow my copy of Eclipse and I can't seem to relinquish it at the moment...

  1. I just can't pick up the original books anymore. Doubt I'll pick it up.

Although I kinda forget the story - it's been muddled by fanfic.

    How's that for decisive???

*throws hands up in the air* Oh I dunno - I'm waffling. Mmmmm waffles.....

  2. I first start reading the series when the first movie came out. I didn't reread them until New Moon came out. I have since read them twice in a period of three and a half months and plan on reading them again starting June 1st. I've kinda gotten a little obsessed, so much that I read Twilight with Midnight Sun and then watch the movie. I will probably read the series twice in June so that I can keep up with my read book, watch movie deal. I will repeat, I am a little obsessed right now, it might be due to my recent craziness.

  3. Well Idk because Idk if I will or not either and ya know I think those things about Bella too. Whiny bitch, Edward shoulda just killed her and saved himself the trouble lmao. I reread NM before the movie came out and that's only because I only read NM all the way thru once, it pissed me off too much to read it again. But I figured I'd better catch up on the rez happenings so I could tell the difference between the movie. I've already read Eclipse 3 or 4 times so I guess I don't need to. I'm undecided as well, and definitely not helping you make a decision lol.

  4. Too late! I reread it last weekend. Bella was not quite so annoying but I wanted to slap Jacob upside the head about ten times. He's worse than Bella.

STY - thought of you when I got to the leg hitch!

Edward was better than ever. And funny. Hope scummit takes the stick out of his ass for this movie. Movie clips look promising! He's even smiling in some of them.

I was just thrilled to be able to read the thing -- as I keep whining, my copy had "disappeared" but I found a replacement at a yard sale. While putting it away in the sacred book cupboard, I notice there is now no New Moon. WTF?

This is really weird because I have been on a Twitard roll for a few days now. I broke my "slash" cherry over the weekend (OMG) after the last fanfic post, which led me to think I should ask Twitards for some "toy" recommendations - and yesterday, there they were. Thanks!

    What's up next?

  5. I only actually read the books one time. The last three times I "read" the audio version.

It's so much easier when your driving or cleaning or trying to drown out the snoring man next to you. (instead of smothering him with a pillow, which btw, I've tried)

Besides all my actual real reading these days is fanfic anyway. So sorry, book version of Eclipse, no time for you.

From now on, I have Ilyana Kadushin to read it to me.

  6. I am not going to read the book before seeing the movie this time. I hope I remember everything LOL

  7. well... since I didn't start reading the books until last month, I'm only on my 3rd go round thru the series... twilight, midnight sun, new moon, eclipse, BD, then untitled continuation of twilight ff... wash/rinse/repeat.

keep thinking eventually i'm gonna get burnt out on it but... nope!

  8. I started re-reading the book in anticipation of the movie - but I limit it to toiley time in the morning so its pretty slow going

  9. I have read the saga straight through without without skipping probably 3 times. And I have picked up 1 here or there and skimmed through it ignoring the "bad" or "annoying" parts a few times... All I know is I picked up Eclipse about 5 weeks ago and started reading it. It's been intermittent though. Sometimes all I want to do is crawl in bed and read a chapter to soothe myself to sleep & other times I'm either too tired, or on this damn computer.

Just the other night (ironically after the Oprah twi special) I picked it up off my nightstand and flipped to where a pizza coupon held my place (srsly) and it was the part where Edward confronts Jake for kissing Bella...PERFECT timing.

Reading parts of the books is truly my security blanket. AND I intend to finish Eclipse before the movie.

  10. i just bought the soft cover version to read on the plane to italy. i will prob end up reading it a few times on my trip (I'm only bringing eclipse and guidebooks...). Eclipse is my favorite of the books and so i've definitely read it quite a few times. However, I think that fan fiction bellas have ruined the book bella... I like them so much better! I mean the kick ass scientist bella in "Irritable Grizzly Adams" is one of my favorites (despite sniveling edward being one of my least favorite edwards). I don't know if I will be able to get through real eclipse without wanting to punch BB in the face...

  11. My opinion may be slightly jaded..but I vote for re-read..b/c other than Twilight, Eclipse is my fave book! Even if you decide not to reread it - don't let JJ borrow it. No offense to her! I realized real fast that those books should not be loaned out. What the hell are you to do if you NEED it for something? Nope, after that happened, I rushed my friend through it and took it back, to secure it's place on my shelf for future reads. Now I have it on my nook too and life is good...like Chapters 8 & 20 good...

  12. @missmalarky - "toiley time" that's brilliant!!! I have books like that too!

I spend a lot of time in my car so I do plan on listening to Eclipse again. Funny enough, I stuck it in the front seat this afternoon so I could get started tomorrow. I've actually only gotten through the entire series twice. I was contemplating starting from the beginning....

  13. Hmmmm now this is an interesting question my dear STY. I have read the books too many times to count at this point, but, like you, I haven't read them in a while. I did re-read Twilight and New Moon right before the movies. Maybe since my Twymen has been stretched beyond recognition I will not read it...just for kicks. I probably will not be so damn criticle without the book version super fresh in my head.

I like this idea, I think I will go with "No" to the pre-movie re-read. Let's see what my memory challenged mommy brain will remember without a refresher course.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I was all for rereading, but you brought up some very valid points. Biggest one being Bella's indecisive-bitchiness. I think I'll watch the movie, then reread, then watch the movie again.

    ReplyDelete
  15. STY,

Somehow you are always on my wavelength.

I was looking at my twi-stash the other day, and I picked up Eclipse. Do I read the fucker again or not? Yes? For me, the best book in the series. No? Why fuck up the movie with a fresh read? Yes? No?

My brain finally went into overload and I took out a pair of skinny jeans and contemplated when I was going to get into those instead. Dieting was much easier to worry about.

  16. Wow this is hard, but for me it’s mainly time. I love to read and always have a book on hand, but I never go back and reread anything. I move on and grab my next book, which damn. I am addicted to YA books, no thanks to SM and twilight. See what they started? Anyway, if I didn’t have to work, I’d reread it. But... I don’t think it’s necessary before the movie.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Personally, I re-read the series before every movie (when I say "every movie" I mean since NM came out because I didn't read the until September 2009). I'm currently on my 3rd reading of NM. I feel like I totally forget things that happened in the book and I like to have it fresh in my memory bank when I see the movie. But, that's just me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It's all about the books to me. So there is no "to read or not to read" question for me. However, I don't have a hard time leaving the book at the theater door, if that makes any sense at all. Pretty much, I don't fear reading the book will ruin the movie for me. And Annie's discussions are so much fun, I can't help but get involved any way possible! What can I say, I'm a geeky English Major. It's in my blood I can't help but nerd out on a good book discussion. *blushes*

I do love the movies, please don't get me wrong, I just love the books so much more.

And I'm 150% with you STY, Bella is annoying the hell out of me right now. But mostly because I think she is worthy of Mr. Cullen and just needs to get a little self respect. But that's my very unpopular opinion.

Good luck avoiding spoilers and trying to keep your book from JJ. *hugs*

    ReplyDelete
  19. Don't read.

I haven't read them in ages and I'm quite glad I haven't. I didn't reread before NM and I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I loved the movie (except the wigs and the clothes). With not having the book so fresh in my mind, I was able to let go of some fine details and sequences they changed.

Twilight was still very fresh in my mind when I saw the movie. I hated the movie. Now that I can watch it with distance between it and the book, I like it. Well, certain parts more than others. It's a great time to make fun of it.

So no, I will not be rereading Eclipse or any of the series. Maybe after I see the movie to then compare. I've learned this with the Twi movies as well as with the HP movies.

  20. What the fuck happened to my spelling of 'critical' up above? Typos are one thing but that is downright embarrasing. Going to hide in shame now...my inner spelling dictator is not pleased. I really need to go back to drinking during the week...not drinking is making me stupid...slightly thinner but stupid.

  21. I gotta be honest.....I'm over it. I will see Eclipse but I'm not giddy about it and I'm not going to re-read the book. I have other books to read. Yes. I said it. There are OTHER books to read. I never thought I'd be able to admit that. I feel better now :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. How interesting that you should do this post, when just the other day I was having the same dilemma. I only read the books once, and there's a whole lot of stuff I don't remember. I almost never re-read books, but I know I want to re-read Twilight.

In any case, if you read the book now, you might get pissed off when you notice the things they changed in the movie.. or not. See, Eclipse is my least favourite book, full of boring parts, like Jasper's story, yawn, and Jacob is an aggressive asshole, and Bella is a stupid sissy, whiny bitch... so I've decided to start reading the books again, because really, I highly doubt I'm going to get upset if they change anything for the movie. In fact, I am kinda hoping that they do, you know?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I was pondering this myself the other day as I sat down to read Twilight again, I have a pretty good memory for books and get all twitchy and pissy when the movies take out all the really important scenes for the sake of special effects or speeding up the story; or add scenes in to explain shit to the fucktards who've never read the books. I think I'll re-read Eclipse after I've seen the movie just so my expectations aren't too high. In all honesty I'm pretty sure fan fiction has tainted me and I've lost my tolerance for the sexual tension in eclipse that never really goes anywhere..I require lemons.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I've tried to reread the books...but I go into massive "skim" mode and end up skipping entire chapters. Nah...I don't think I'll read it again unless there's something in the movie that strikes me as totally wrong and I need to look it up.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I started re-reading Eclipse over the weekend and forced myself to read (not skim) the whole "spirit warrior" section. A lot of words for a little foreshadowing!

I have my tickets for the movie at an IMAX on 6-30! I hope the IMAX format is worth the extra $$$!

    ReplyDelete
  26. @ Wendy, you killed me! Easier to decide when I'm getting into skinny jeans, or Eclipse? Hmmm...

I'm saving my Eclipse re-read for after the LOST finale. I only have so much time for my two pop culture obsessions, and after May 23, a gigantic, Island-shaped hole is going to appear in my life. Seriously. I'm actually grieving this show.

I tend to have trouble reading the books individually. I like to read them in order so I'm in the right emotional climate. (Yeah, I know how that sounds.) The problem is that this can be a very time-consuming endeavor, especially since it's hard for me to put them down to, you know, go to work and sleep.

Good luck on your decision, STY!

VW: grawler. I'm willing to bet that my ho toefunny is a grawler in the sack!

  27. The trouble with re-reading the book so close to the opening of the movie is all the " That never happened!!" "She didn't say that!" "Why didn't they just follow the damn book?!" moments that will happen. When the book is fresh it has a way of making the movie less enjoyable for me....unless I make an effort to seperate the book and movie. I had to do this for Harry Potter. I will probably re-read just because I am throwing an epic pre-movie party and I want to get details right!! And I need cake ideas...and Edward

    ReplyDelete
  28. I started re-reading Eclipse about a month ago - I only read it in the loo, so it takes awhile. I find myself in the movies wondering, "did that happen in the book"? so this time I wanted to be up to date. I am at the part where Jasper is telling his story. It's my favorite book, so I can't WAIT for the movie.
Oh, and @ Mmmmoxie...WTF??? I think you need an intervention - we need to knock you off the wagon.

    ReplyDelete
  29. @kintail - i am always surprised anew with each reread by how funny and good-humored Edward is in general - and they really don't play that up in the movies - AT ALL. I think part of that was the screenplay, and part of it was RPatts deciding to be darker (something he said a lot - or at least something to that effect - around Twilight/pre-Twilight). It's going to be genuinely painful to watch him in BD! yikes...

@Cutie - makes TOTAL sense to leave the book at the theater door - probably the only way to really enjoy the movie is to do so! I think at this point we know the movies - even if they get better - will never match up to the books.

@mmMoxie - by "other books," you mean fanfic??? jk - sorta - lol! but seriously it's been FOREVER since i have read something where the main characters were not edward and bella. huh.

I think that the people who've decided to (or who are suggesting that) a post-movie reread might be fun are on to something. won't cack up the works in the theater and have me squawking [as loudly] about what's different/missing/etc. like BPB said - because i annoy myself when i do that - lol.

    ReplyDelete
  30. With all the hoopla lately I have gone back and reread some of the good parts/clips that have been shown. I think it's worth reading some of the moments between Bella and Edward-leg hitch, compromises, etc. Those parts make me all happy inside:) Reminds me why I like the book so much.

I get why Bella is a little torn. She did spend a lot of time with smiley jolly Jacob. And she's horny and Edward won't put out. ha ha:) Get that girl some fan fiction and a cactus vibrator stat! problem solved.

    ReplyDelete
  31. For me, the books and the movies are kind of like first cousins. You can tell by looking at them that they are spawned from the same parental units, but the similarities end there.

Like Betty Pink, I have to put the books aside when I walk into the movie theater and see the movies as a separate entity. I used to have a terrible time with Harry Potter too.

I actually prefer the emotional connection between Edward and Bella in the book Twilight than to the Movie. It feels more joyous. To me anyway, there was something almost painful in the longing between Movie Bella and Edward vs. Book B & E.

Now with that having been said, there will be no need to tie me down and force me to watch robward prance around in his peacoat, old man suit, or 1985 style jean jacket 'cause Movie B&E have their merits too!

    Is it June 30th yet?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry for my lack of comments, lately. I'm still lurking:)

Don't - it's too close to the movie and all you will be concentrating on in the movie is about how different it is in the book. I stupidly reread NM within this time frame before the movie came out - and it just made my viewing experience angry.

I reread Eclipse about a month ago - figuring that would give me enough breathing room:)

    ReplyDelete
  33. ok.. soo twitards here.. this is what I do, whether you choose to do it or not is totally up to you but tis what I do and it works for me lol. I have read the series countless times already but the beginning of the month that a movie is coming out I will grab the books before it and reread those only. Like I will read twilight, midnight sun and then new moon but not eclipse right before the movie then go watch the movie and reread eclipse afterward. I dunno.. it refreshes and I don't get mad at the screen for screwing up my book while Im watching the new movie lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm gonna reread it, why not? Plus, Eclipse was my favorite in the series and I haven't read it in awhile. I don't get too hung up on "that's not how they did it in the book!" so it won't matter that it's fresh in my mind. It's going to be different, it has to be. I obsessively adore the books , but simply love the movies for bringing the characters to life. Does that make sense? Probably not, I haven't had my coffee yet. And now I have to go sit in a conference room for 2 hours. Oh. Joy. Have a great day ladies!

  36. I'm torn... one part of me wants to read it right before I see it to see exactly how different it is... but another part of me remembers watching Twilight almost immediately after finishing the book and how pissed I was at some of the shit they changed. I got over it.

I may just skim around to some of the good parts, like oh say, the leg hitch scene to see how they pull it off in the movie. Oh how I wish I could be Kristen's stunt double for that leg hitch scene... (even though I look nothing like her, am twenty years older than her and could snap her neck with my thunder thighs... *sigh*)

It's raining... I'm depressed... maybe I'll got watch the Angry Edward clip another 8 or 37 times.

    ReplyDelete
  37. sigh - I am forever ruined by fanfic....it's wharped my already fucked up mind and filled in the missing smut from the lovely pure SM Twilight series. The movies I can handle because, well, Rob.
Not at the place where I want to tear myself away from fanfic yet.

  38. MyHeartGoesPitterPattinsonMay 19, 2010 at 9:53 AM

I think I'll avoid it. It made New Moon way less pleasurable b/c it was like a flashing sign for the stuff they got wrong. Like stuff that was so wrong even the idiot dog, Dug, from Up could correctly "point" to the fuck uppery.

I did want to suggest listening to all the books on youtube. The audio books are all available. I listen to it when I'm cleaning or doing other mindless tasks. I can't bring myself to pick up the books over fanfic but I can listen to them when I'm doing the despicable yet necessary shit that takes me away from fanfic.

Also can we please talk about what Edward looks like about 35 seconds into this clip? He's rockin the black eyes again and I'm thinking Steph should have just written him as having black eyes always. And I love that he asks if Jacob owns a shirt. Spoiler alert:

  39. I re-read eclipse about a month ago so it wasn't fresh in my head when I went to the movies. I did the same for new moon...I find giving myself at least a 2 month + time frame between reading and movies is good for me because I'm pretty forgetful. For example, there was a passage in eclipse I really liked and wanted to blog about...when I finally sat down to blog about two weeks later, I had forgotten where the hell the passage was...so apparently 2 weeks is my brain's capacity for remembering stuff after that all I remember is how hot Edward is. ;)

Now as for your dilemma I say re-read it but do it now before it's so fresh in your head you and want to smack Mellisa Rosenberg upside her stupid head for fucking up the dialog in the screen play yet again...Eclipse was and still is after a second read my favorite of the books, I think Bella and Edward have some real heartfelt conversations about their relationship, it's not so one-sided between them I think Bella actually grows a pair instead of letting Edward walk all over her feelings.

    ReplyDelete
  40. @my darling Toefunny - I love your "first cousins" comparison! Spot on, my dear.

I just re-read that sentence, and I'm sorry I talk to you like I'm your grandma.

I also think it's really interesting what you said about the contrast between Book B&E and Movie B&E - how in the book it's more joyful, more lighthearted at times, but in the movie there's something viscerally painful about their relationship. It made me think of this!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ah7XSxWFpM

    Yeah, you're right, total agony.

    :)

  41. I've reread Eclipse a few times, but mostly just love when i get to the good parts - i.e Leg Hitch, the tent scene, or any of the cuddly, gropey moments on Edward's bed!

  43. @my sweet pimp - you do make me laugh. The endearment goes both ways!

'Love Actually' is one of my all time FAVORITE movies! (I Hate Uncle Charlie!)

Back to Twilight....when I first read the book, it pried open this little dark box in my soul that had been tucked away after years of cynicism and disappointment in my choices of men. I had forgotten what it was like to be truly open to the possibility of letting someone all the way in. (get your mind out of the gutter ladies!!) Ya know what I mean!? You approach relationships differently in your 30's than you do in your teens. The books did a better job of capturing that for me than the movies.

However...the cougar in me wants to grab movie Edward, throw is 25yr old lanky ass to the ground and to things to him that no teenage girl has even dreamed of yet....phew...I feel better now.

  45. I feel so out-of-step. Eclipse seems to be nearly everyone's favorite book, and tbh, I thought it was mine as well...until I started re-reading it a few months ago. I couldn't finish it. I got so pissed off at Bella that I threw the book across the room! How DARE she treat sweet, doting Edward that way? Riding off on Jacob's motorcycle with him?? Kissing Jacob back?? WTF, Bella?? What the fucking FUCK!? OICU, Stephenie MarySue Meyer, imagining yourself there with two hot guys fighting over you and yapping about your wonderfulness while you're "sleeping"! Gag!! Argh!! I HATE IT. For me, seeing it that way cancels out all the wonderful moments (read "leg-hitch") in Eclipse, like scissors cuts paper and rock smashes scissors.

So no, I won't be reading it again. And in fact, I'll probably be the obnoxious assclown in the theatre on June 30th, muttering angrily to herself during the Bella/Jacob scenes.

Hmm. I may have a few unresolved issues.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Too late. Have already re-read it. Am flipping back through it & rereading fav parts. I like BB better than MB. BB just seems like a nicer, gentler person than MB. I think KStew looks kind of like how I visualized Bella but she isn't nice like BB is...or as clingy. I've always liked BB better. Of COURSE I've read the proposal chapter again. And if/when Hobbit Slade messes up a scene I like, I guess I'll deal. I will miss the DILFs touches (twss) like the comatose scene with "Possibility" playing. Anyway, too late to decide whether or not to read it again before the movie. Eclipse is my favorite so I've read that one the most times.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Honest-to-GAWD, when the Oprah show aired, I was all like, "ooohhhh, that's where I am, that's where I am!!" @ the "I kissed Bella" clip.

So. I'm still such a TwiVirgin, I guess. Although, truly, that's like the gay divorcee wearing PURE white to her next three weddings. People see me re-reading the series for the fourth time (now on Eclipse, of course), and think to themselves, "HMPH. Yeah. RIGHT!!"

Yep. I'm reading. Gets me all loosy-goosey inside.

Btw, *I* finally had my first EDWARD dream about a week ago! Even though I was ME, I was stuck in some October-November-December scene where he left me. And I was aghast and heartripped. But, he Remembered Me and returned. That must've actually been around 5:15am when hubby left for work.

Lemme tell ya,I was hitchin' a LEG or two.

  48. So...I just contracted some immune-devouring illness from the children with whom I volunteer (I'm not pretentious, I did that because seeing with at the end of the sentence kind of made me yak). My body was in serious distress, and I was running a 105 temp. I can't tell you how glad I was when I didn't turn into a fucking werewolf after I got pissed at the boy for not taking care of me. The last thing I need is to have the hairiest bush on the block all because of some 3 year olds.

What did I do with my sick self yesterday? Well, funny you should ask. I read Shadowboxer (which was awesome), watched How To Be, and then started to re-read our series from the beginning. I do this before every movie, if I'm into the books. Let me tell you...I have to put aside quite a bit of time before HP movies come out.

Eclipse is my favorite book in the series, and therefore I am holding the movie up to some serious expectations. So far, I am loving David Slade (well...the vamp ahhh meee treading water in the bay is kinda weird....). Even if the rest of the movie sucks, I can dwell on Angryward and the leg hitch, and that will be enough.

@My Favorite Pimp: YES! Me too with LOST! I couldn't watch it last night b/c I was so pumped up on drugs I thought I would freak out. I'm off to try watching now, but there are no guarantees. Idk what I'm gonna do after next week!

  49. @My dear toefunny (if you're good soooomeone may see $5 in her bday card this year)

HA! I said "I HATE Uncle Charlie" out loud when I read that, and it made me giggle uncontrollably. I really should stop drinking tea at work - just in cases!

@Lindsay - DIED at the werewolf thing! If I ever start running a fever that high (a hundred and werewolf) then I better fucking fursplode because otherwise it's just not fucking worth it to be that sick. That sounds like one serious fever, though, and I hope you're feeling much much better. Interestingly, I was also out sick yesterday (and so was LKW! I sense a disturbance in the force...)and for the first time in a long time spent the entire day not on Twilight, but on Lost!

My brain is so so so fried right now on LOST mania. Today I was chatting with a friend about the french language, and when I meant to say "Oh, French!" I actually said "Oh, Lost!" and then gaped in horror at my almost Freudian slip. In other news, my NEW LOST SHIRT is coming in the mail today along with my NEW TWITARDED HAT from cafepress and I can't stop obsessively tracking it online. WHY IS IT NOT AT MY HOUSE YET

  50. I've just recently started Twilight again. It's been a while ince I've read the series. And "in a while" means, a few months ago. God, I'm a loser. Anyways, I'm thinking about skipping over to Eclipse because I don't want to be in the middle of depressing New Moon when Eclipse comes out. It will seriously screw my frame of mind up.

  51. i do enjoy re-reading the series when i decide to, but aside from the issue at hand...

i must say that, yes, MB is less whiny, which i agree is a great thing.
but MB also seems insincere and borderline rude most of the time. the more i watch twilight the more it bothers me.
    at least BB is kind.

  52. @mypimp -SWEET 'cause I could totally use the five bucks!

@JJ - I think, that post was the reason I started reading and became a loyal subject of Twitardia! I know for sure it was my very first comment on the blog...Now aren't you all sorry for that! HA!!!!!

@Lindsay - Dying over here!!!! So glad you're not having to make an emergency bikini wax appointment today!

  53. I remember being pretty pissed off at Bella - so I think I will read the fanfic EDWARD'S ECLIPSE instead.

  54. Since I'm always reading and I can go through most books in a few days, (except the Twi books, those I finish in hours if I want to), I've been planning on rereading Eclipse when it's a little closer to movie time. I want it all fresh in my mind for when I see it (mainly so I can nitpick and whine about all the teensy details that they left out). But that's just me. It's about time I reread it anyway, it's been a while.

Besides, Eclipse was always my favorite book, so I'm really looking forward to the movie. According to those who saw it already from Oprah, this movie does a really good job of translating the book and is really close to its source material, so I want it fresh in my mind.

Squee! Can't wait those forty-some days!

  55. Fuck, no. That's the worst one! I reread it a while back and pretty much promised myself never again (although I can - and do - read Twilight over and over and over again!) Bella's just too much in Eclipse. WTF is up with being in love with two guys? As IF there's any contest between Edward and Jacob!

  56. I re-read New Moon before the movie came out and then continued with Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. And then back to Twilight. DAMN YOU, STEPHANIE MEYER!!!

Do not re-read it for movie prep. I've learned it makes me pissy during the movies. I'll think "But that's not how Bella would react!" or "Why the hell did they skip over that?" (She forgave Edward for leaving in 2 seconds? What. The. Hell.)

I was just blogging about the differences here for my Twihatah friends: http://www.taraism.net/ (Yes, I just linked my blog - does that make me a pimp or a ho?)

  57. I was tired of waiting for my fanfiction updates, so I went ahead and started rereading Eclipse a couple days ago. It is such a fast read, that even between work of reading other stuff, I am half through (although I had to skip through the ridiculously boring segment about the back history of the wolves--that is about 30 pages right there). I am glad I am rereading--the movies never get everything in.

  58. I kind of re-read it by listening to the audiobook to and fro work!

  59. Does JJ seriously NOT own a copy of Eclipse? WTF? I'm not sure why, but I find that hilarious! I would have sworn she had a well-worn copy sitting next to the sparklepeen for the leg-hitch!

I have been going back and forth on the reread but I think I'm going to do it. My brain is so muddled by fanfiction, I really think I need to bring myself back closer to a more canon mindset. I really don't want to be wondering in the middle of the movie why Seth isn't gay, Charlie isn't a vampire, and Bella isnt wearing stilettos and thigh highs.

My plan is to start June 1st. I'm also going to watch the other movies as close as I can to get the continuity. I'm going to be stuck in the wilds of NorCal (fucking little sister deciding to get married right when Eclipse is coming out? The nerve!!!) so I won't be anywhere near a theatre doing a tripleplay.

  60. I say skip the reread. I absolutely hate Eclipse for all the reasons you outlined. It'll be torture enough to see her waffle in the movie....I mean, seriously, Team Jacob? WTF?

  61. @ STY - In general, it's hard for any movie to match the book (I know there are those who would beg to differ and I respect that). That's why I think it is so important to separate the two. Because they are each great in their own rights! A movie gives you that rush within a two to three hour block and visually is err... stimulating (why did I just giggle while typing stimulating?). A leg hitch read is yummy, a leg hitch seen... *mind goes numb*

However, a book is lived, every moment felt deep in your heart. It's something you take with you for a day, week, month however long. The experience is epic. In my opinion, the two should not be compared. I mean, of course a movie needs to stay faithful (can you imagine if Catherine Hardwicke had gone with the original script she read and Bella had been some sort of secret agent! Bwahahahah)but in the long run the director/screen writer has the right to interpret and give their take. That's the part that I love. Seeing what they took from the novel and made their own.

Ramble ramble ramble. Have I mentioned I miss Twitarded a lot? Hm... I have. Heart you ladies something fierce... *looks around for amcas* Please don't tell her I used the "f-word" *mouths fierce* She doesn't like that word...

  62. I have to say, I've been wanting to re-read the series (it would be my 5th time through them) , but I did that before New Moon came out and I was actually a little disappointed in the movie because of it. I had too many expectations I think, and when something was changed or not there at all, it kind of pissed me off. I also am not watching or looking at everything I can find on the movie either this time around. I remember getting all teary eyed watching the trailer and then when I was watching the movie...nothin'...

  63. Sorry I am late to the MB vs. BB par-tay, but I've been completely submissive to MotU thanks to you dildo-sniffers. Have I said "ZOME Thank You"? No? Well thanks.

Eclipse is the last book I re-read in the series. I cannot bring myself to read BD again. I just can't. Especially when some very talented ladies have re-written that train-wreck to be an acceptable story that involves no uterus biting or half breed babies with stupid names. Stories with very detailed sexcapades.

So on that I have to say the BB's indesiciveness is a serious plot hole I keep tripping in. She nearly dies of innue in New Moon when Edward leaves, so you would *assume* -- you know for plot-accuracy -- Bella's response to the proposal would go as follows:

"Marry you? ZOMG! Can we go to Vegas NOW??? Edward, you sparkly, sexy, bronze-haired God! Not only will I marry you -- bitch I am going to shackle myself to your hipbones for eternity! Leg hitch! Now!"

So yeah, probably won't read Eclipse.

  64. Don't read the book! Not becuase I don't like the book - because frankly I love it...if you delete Jacob that is and erm Bella's reluctance for marriage. I mean it's the book of Jasper's story and also the leg hitch and (even though this contradicts what I just said) Jacob and Bella - more specifically Bella punching Jacob in the face.
But, anyway, don't read it because you'll then have it fresh in your mind and when you watch the film it'll be all "oh they missed this" and "they did this differently" and I don't know about you but that gets tiring and so give yourself a break the first time you see it and just don't read the book so it isn't to fresh in your mind. You need to enjoy at least your first time reading it.

  65. I wouldn't read Eclipse this close to the movie coming out...I read New Moon just before I saw the movie for the first time and spent a lot of time snickering in the theater.

  66. Love these timely and relevant blog posts (for me).

I actually started Twilight about a month ago and it was totally different the second time around. The first time, like you, I was reading so fast that I never stopped to smell the roses. The second time I noticed more things, such as how funny Edward is. And how co-dependent they are on each other. If I were a mom and Bella was my daughter, I'd be hella worried! HA! Then I watched the movie right after I finished and was so impressed by how much the dialogue in the movie is like word for word to the book. That was cool.

Now I'm reading New Moon and you're not going to like this, but I LOVE Jacob's character. He's just a breath of fresh air from all the drama lama from Edward. Just sayin'! I even find myself, like I did the first time, hoping she just gives in to Jacob!! I watched the movie tonight with a friend who hadn't see it (although I'm half way through the book) and she was like having a physical reaction to Jacob! She couldn't get over his body - and face. It's fun to watch the movie with Twi-virgins. Oh and once again, very happy that the dialogue in the movie is very close if not identical to the book in the pivotal scenes.

So I'm def going to be reading Eclipse and will have it done by June 30th. There's always the danger that I'll be comparing every detail like, "that didn't happen in the book! She never said that!" But I'm doin' it.

P.S. JJ doesn't own the books herself? Whaaaaat?

  67. My first comment after MONTHS of lurking. I've read the books 3 or 4 times, always exactly in order. Just finished them again a month or so ago but thinking of picking up Twilight again. I think it's my fave though the stupid shit jumps out at me more now. I've been a Twilight junkie for about 7 or 8 months and would have signed up here sooner but this blogger thing is friggin' complicated!
