When the cat's away...

The Twitarded Head Bitches in Charge left me the keys to the castle while they are Forking it up. You know what that means...

Party at Casa de Twitarded!

Does anyone remember where I parked?

In the wee hours of this morning I got an e-mail from Snarkier Than You basically saying, “We’re going to FOOOORRRKKS! Watch the blog. Don’t fuck it up.” It may have been nicer than that, but I can’t remember the exact wording.

Since I have nothing prepared and closely resemble a chain-smoking chihuahua on crack when I don’t have an itemized To Do list in front of me, we are going to talk about me.

Here’s some Rob porn to ease the blow.

I like hearing about you, TK. I don’t know what those bitches’ problems are.

Let’s gather ‘round the Share Circle. I have the conch, so back the fuck off. (Yeah, I just threw out a William Golding reference on Twitarded. What of it?) I’m feeling nostalgic, so let’s talk about how we all fell down this trippy rabbit hole.

Twilight was so far outside of my literary sphere, it might as well have been on Pluto (may your planet status R.I.P.). I didn’t read much fiction. The little I did read was all classic literature. Favorite novel: Lord of the Flies. Favorite book in general:

You say weird. I say eccentric. Bite me.

Back in the Autumn of 2008 [cue the dream sequence music] I saw a preview for a little movie called Twilight. For reasons still unknown to me, I had to see this movie. Since it wasn’t hitting theaters within the next 30 seconds, I hit Google hard & heavy to learn everything I could.

Had I found this I probably wouldn’t be here today.

I am inserting the first ever e-mail I sent to Snarkier Than You, and by default, the first time I’d EVER contacted anyone I found online. I'm just lucky she wasn’t a 14 year-old boy.

Subject: I believe the term is “enabler.”

Curse you, Twitarded!! A pox on both of your houses. I was completely content in my delusion that I was simply conducting social research on the Twilight phenomenon since last Fall. I was an English major for Pete's sake! I don't read pedestrian novels like "Twilight.” But, my curiosity got the best of me one autumn day. So, I went down to Target & loaded my basket with God knows what & finally slid a copy of Twilight beneath it all. I believe my copy of the book set me back about $92. My husband questioned my new reading material when we got into bed that night. (He had already questioned the massive amounts of random shit I brought home from the Tar-jay earlier.) I pretty much just sputtered sentence fragments about previewing it in case we ever have a daughter, or some such nonsense.

Needless to say, I stopped reading when the alarm went off in the morning...for the third time. Of course, I took my "research" to work & panicked when I got to the last chapter. I drove like a maniac to the Barnes & Noble under the pretense of picking up lunch for the office...at 9am. The thought of finishing “Twilight” without my next fix readily available made my chest constrict. I convinced myself I was just being thorough in my research. I can quit whenever I want, right?

Fast forward at least a dozen full readings of the series & countless viewings of the movie, not to mention the daily "hits" of my favorite chapters. My husband & child are dangerously at risk of developing scurvy as I feed them cereal & frozen pancakes for every meal. And those are the nights that I "cook." I've gradually added to my list of blogs I check daily. Scratch that. Hourly. After much resistance, I finally clicked on Twitarded. In the space of time that it took to read your header, I was hooked. Fuck me. Now I had to admit that I might possibly be an addict. (I can still quit whenever I want. I just don't want to yet. It's not hurting anyone.)

I've read all of your archives & am slightly disturbed. Can you hear my thoughts halfway across the country? I could have written any one of those posts. I feel like less of a pariah for not being the only thirty-something incapable of purging this story from system & more of a freak for finally acknowledging the disturbing level to which I am addicted. I carry around my iPhone like a talisman. I have the “Twilight” movie & book downloaded, several blogs bookmarked & the “Midnight Sun” draft readily available in case I get that trademark hand tremble of a true addict when I am away from home. Then you had to go & add fanfiction links to your sight. Fuck me. Now I have another facet of this addiction to manage. What are you people doing to me? My husband is perturbed because I am yawning through regular porn. I haven't shared this new aspect of my addiction with him yet. I figure he should just be happy reaping the benefits.

THEN, like a drug pusher wanting me to progress from the gateway drugs, you had to taunt me with “Wide Awake.” I resisted, but I finally capitulated. I mean, I don't really have time to add anything else into my schedule. I thought I'd read one chapter a day & drag it out. Once again, fuck me. I've had to completely eliminate my 2 requisite hours of sleep in order to read & reread this new addiction. I haven't slept in days. My life is completely upside down. I would have eliminated personal hygiene altogether to free up some time if my libido wasn't through the roof. I hope you are happy with yourselves. I was perfectly content with my social research before. Now, I have to endure an 8 hour field trip with my first grader tomorrow and no way to take a Twilight / Wide Awake hit. Thanks a whole freaking lot.

Sincerely,

Twitarded in Texas

The rest is history.

I’m going to FOOOORRRKK over the conch now. How did you find “Twilight?”

  1. TK - you took the words right outta my mouth. STY and JJ clearly have a direct link to my brain when they post!
January 2009, I see Twilight the book sitting on my MIL's couch. I said "hey, I've kinda wanted to read that" and she said to take it and let her know if it was any good ;) Well, within the next two weeks I read all 4 books and went to the budget to watch Twilight by myself. 9 months later...oh wait, no 11 months later I found Twitarded (I'm coming up on my year anniversary in Novemember guys!!)
    HAVE A BLAAAAAST!!!

  2. BWAH! Congrats on ruling the roost this week TK! It'll be fun!

I LOL'ed at "Needless to say, I stopped reading when the alarm went off in the morning...for the third time." Everyone I know who has read this series has had the same exact reaction -- as well as "Of course, I took my "research" to work & panicked when I got to the last chapter." People's variation on it never fails to crack me up. What is WITH this series (oh yeah, his name is Edward).

My version: I saw an interview w/ SM on TV and thought "hey I could be her!" (Ya know, the way she's a random nobody who randomly writes a majorfucking best selling phenom? Just like that.) Plus I was sick of seeing all the "Twilight" flair on facebook and not knowing what they were all about.

I went to Target, bought Twilight... brought it home, stayed up all night and day, then raced back to Target to buy the next three (I may or may not have plowed over pedestrians in a slight panic thinking Target may close before I got there, despite it being Sun afternoon)... and yeah, I was bitten.

The cast for the movies was announced a few months later and mmm mmm, the name Robert never sounded so sexy before!

One more thing- SO glad to have found Twitarded! Cuz after I read Twilight I was forced to call and gush with the only other person I knew who had read it - my 14 yr old cousin. :| She may or may not have been exposed to some, ah.. more "mature" themes....

OH yeah, and I totally hear ya on giving up sleep and not having time in my life to manage fanfic.. since we're going for full disclosure, I might as well admit that despite being an English major in college, I seriously don't think I've read anything NON-Twilight related in like, 2 years!!! ZOMG.

  3. I was a late bloomer. I discovered twilight in april 2009 when I had to undergo sinus surgery and a nose job....hey, I needed it for medial reasons...don't judge me. :)

My sis in law was reading it and told me I should since I had 14 days on my hands and on day 2 I was already bitching about the lack of good daytime tv.

I read all 4 books in those two weeks. At first I blamed my love of twi on the pain meeds so I reread all the books just to make sure my love for Edward was true....it was. I got the twilight DVD on netflix and then went out to target to buy it before I even sent it back.

I found you broads back in June 2009 and have been hooked ever since.

    Have fun in Forks!

  4. I found Twilight when one of my friends (a guy!) loaned it to me. I'd never read it before because I thought, ewww, vampires. So I decided to give it a try just because he said it was so good. I finished it in one sitting. Devoured would actually be more appropriate. Went out and bought the last three and finished them within the next three days. And when I finished the last one, I cried. And started on Twilight again.

And then I found Twitarded. You ladies have opened up a whole new world to me! Mainly, fanfic. I never knew such a thing existed before! You twitards are one of the best things that has ever happened to me!!!!!!

  5. Texaskatherine, you are amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed your post.:) You have accurately mentioned how I and every other one of us fell into our obsession. I laughed through the whole post thanx

  6. Oh, la. How divine. The wonderful Texas K. The others have all gone to Fooorks. Any chance the rest of us will be going down while they're away?
June 30, 2007, at 16th birthday party of niece, she and little friends tell me about Twilight and when I freak over the word "vampire" they reassure me that the whole appeal is that he wants to protect her. I relax.
Fast forward to January 2010, when Twilight comes on Showtime for the first time. I watch. I watch again, I watch again. (It is still on, maybe 10 times a week now, including 3 showings today--all autotuned by me.)
But it was Twitarded that made me less lonely. And Fifty who added whole new places on the map, and then Osa Bella that made the Twilight terrain richer and most recently, I found TK's elevator ....so the world of Twilight is endless, endless.... And like heroin to all.

  7. Holy fuck, TK is in charge? Moste Excellente.

I found Twilight b/c it was on sale on my birthday at Target. I had been avoiding it like the plague b/c every where I looked, some stupid bitch was reading it on the bus. So I picked it up for $6, went to the check out, and asked for a gift receipt because I was so fucking embarrassed. Rinse and repeat over the next 6 days with the other three books. OH HOW PISSED I WAS that Eclipse and BD were only in hardcover!!!

  8. TexasKatherine! Woot! Woot!

I'm in the same Twi-boat as you, TK. I guess most of us are and that's why we're here. I would say we're like a support group but we're really more like a crack house. There's just no end to the addiction and that's the way we like it.

Great post - made me giggle. Soooooo glad you're here to keep us company while all the kool kids are in FOOOOORRRKS. ;)

  9. Hi, TK. Yeah, I thought I was pretty "intellectual." So I didn't think twice about Twilight until my girlfriend told me "it's just like Pride and Prejudice." Read the first, thought, "I'll just start New Moon . . ." and that one really hooked me. I raced to the end to get Edward back. It totally channeled my one great heartbreak -- except, of course in the case of the book the guy returned. After that I also bought E. and B.D. in hardback, which I NEVER do. After several read-throughs, the movie, and Midnight Sun, I thought I was at a deadend. Then I read a newspiece that mentioned Twitarded and -- ta da -- a whole new world opened up.
Wide Awake was also my first fanfic (or, at least my first lemony one). Read it twice, then The List (twice), and just finished MOTU. Laters, baby! What to read next?
This whole thing has brought whole new dimensions to my life and marriage. Love you guys!!

  10. Is it just me did we buy all/most of our Twilight books at Target? I almost never buy books at Target but like TK I bought my Twibooks there because I knew I could hide them in my little red basket under a million other items.

  11. My sister in law brought me to the books... October 2008, I was at her house and a commercial came on for the movie.. and she froze in place mezmerized... the woman is a doctor for goodness sake... anyway.. the commercial ended and shesighed looked at me with a huge smile and said... "Are you going to see it?"

I asked theonly intelligent questions I could ask at the time "See what?"

You would have thought I'd taken the Lord's name in vain... she immediately ran to her book shelf and grabbed 4 books handed them to me and said "YOU. MUST. READ. THESE." her voice scared me.. it was a little m]like a demon from hell... but I took the book from her.... and then I promptly left them sitting on the end table "by accident" when I left.

It was maybe a week later I saw the book in a store while I was shopping and just picked it up and tossed it into my carriage.

The rest is history.. I was a woman possessed.. I googled like it was the only thing keeping me alive...

Thanks for the trip down memory lane :)
Gosh I miss those days :)

  12. Hi TK - I happened to be in a Blockbuster a couple hours before the midnight release of the Twilight DVD. I rented it a couple weeks later to see what all the fuss was about. I loved the movie and wanted to know what was going to happen next. Then I noticed that the books were in the teen fiction section and I hesitated. After searching the net and finding that there are other people closer to my age (40ish) that like the story, I went to Walmart and bought the first two books. Luckily, I had vacation time booked and spent a week stuck to my couch finishing Eclipse and Breaking Dawn (after my second trip to Walmart). A few months later I found Twitarded. During Christmas vacation 2009, I was running out of things to do to keep busy and Twitarded had a post with fan fiction recs. I decided to give it a try and started reading The Blessing and The Curse (which has recently been completed) and I haven't been able to stop reading fan fiction since.
Looking forward to an update on Going Down?

  13. Hey TK! Glad someone's stearing this ship while the rest of the gang's in FOORRRKKKKS!

I got hooked when my youngest daughter asked me to go to Tar-Jay and pick up the new Twilight dvd that was coming out. Watched it with her and thought the story was cute and then, hmmm... that Edward is HOT! Sooooo, I remembered that my daughter had the series sitting in her room and decided to read Twilight. Yep, I was sucked in just like a moth to a flame. Read all of them is record time. My kids thought I was nuts. Little do they know. Now Twitarded has got me hooked on fanfic. Enablers indeed! Can't thank you ladies enough.

  15. @LindseyRae - LMAO about the Target gift receipt. That's the perfect beard for buying crazy shit at Target.

I love this post. I just discovered Twilight this month (cue audible gasp). I just got sick of everyone telling me to read it (including both of my best friends).

I started it on my Kindle on Monday. By Sunday I had devoured the entire series including Midnight Sun. Snaps to those who had to WAIT for SM to publish the entire series. I could not have survived the DTs from my Edward withdrawal.

During my reading, I ignored my child. Let my students teach themselves. It was crazy.

I currently read way too much about Rob and Twilight. I think I've seen every interview he's ever done on YouTube. And I might possibly have about 300 or so RobPorn images on my MacBook. And admittedly, I own the Edward Barbie. It has a prominent place in my classroom.

    Great post TexasKatherine!

  16. I was a little late to the Twi party myself, only having fully ensconsed myself in all things twi about a year ago......(cue wavy flashback lines)~ I was adamantly anti Twilight when I first heard of it. I started my foray into vampire literature when I was 7.. born and raised on Anne Rice you could say. The first time I heard of Twilight and it's sparkly vampires was shortly before the movie came out and I was all "Hell no!!! How are they gonna make Cedric Diggory be a stupid sparklepire!!! he's way too cute for that Oh woe is me poor Ced!!!" So I snarked and resisted and made fun of the girls I worked with that were totally Twihards. After Twilight hit dvd I rented it just to test the waters...I wasn't really impressed I totally loved the robward but thought the acting all in all was a little sub par (Translation = totally wanted to stab kristen stewart in the face with a spork). Then one day shortly before New Moon hit theatres I was reading the newspaper and there was an article about the book Breaking Dawn, it was a total smash piece saying that the whole saga was nothing more than an "ode to abusive co dependant teenage relationships" and that Bella was an idiot for "giving up Dartmouth just to be this guys obsession and have his babies" blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda and then it started talking about vampire sex and my ears perked up ( I know right)So I decided to go to the library and check out Breaking Dawn. ...I had it read less than 24 hours later and then spent the entire following day library hoping so I could get the other 3 books and read them all. I spent a good 3 days just reading and rereading..I was hooked and I really do not even know why. I could totally keep writing but my comment is already long enough and dammit I cave some robporn to watch and some fan fic to read :)
Thanks for keeping the home fires burning while those cuntcakes go party without us Tk <3

  17. Hey TK!!! Let's party it up!!!

My sister lent me her copy of Twilight during my last semester of school just as I'm about to get my BA I ignored all of my studies to finish Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. It only took me 1 day per book. Then I got invited to a NM party at my bloggy besties house where she introduced me to the world of Twilight blogging and through that I found FF which have taken over my life.

To make a long story well long but not super long, I only got into Twilight December 2009, so I'm pretty new to the game and this has led me to meet all of you wonderful ladies and get the chance to perv and ogle the wonderful Twilight men.

PS: My first foray into Twitarted was from a link someone sent me of the JJ poops in RPattz trailer post. I have been hooked since :)

  18. General PSA: I'm working on the next chapter of Going Down? I swear. it will be posted roughly the same time BD hits the theaters. I'm only slightly exaggerating.

@SpinningHead--I've bought several books since I discovered fanfic. They are pretty to look at, but I can't remember how to turn pages at this point.

@franki--I tried to buy the books at a used book store because I'll be damned if I was going to pay more than $1 for a teen romance novel. I went to all the ones farthest from my house, lest I see anyone I knew, natch. Funny thing--there were no used copies to be had. NO ONE was selling their books. I went to 5 stores. Then I went to the scary Barnes & Noble in the DMZ (again--far from my house) & they were SOLD OUT. Target was the only place I could find it. Thank goodness the B&N near my office had NM. I shudder to think what might have happened.

  20. my first taste of twilight was seeing the movie. i borrowed it from a friend at work who gave it a great review, plus I liked vamp movies and wanted to know what all the fuss was about. i thought it was good. A few months later, i was at an airport and saw the book there and thought "what the hell. lets see if the movie did the book justice." well, it didn't. the book was more than the movie could ever be. i was obsessed and read all 4 books in short order.

once i finished reading, i had to immerse myself in the world of twilight every free moment i had.i even asked the Borders employee if she knew of a support group for twilight addicts. i was only half-kidding. i was either searching the internet for twilight merchandise (etsy was a favorite site), or reading goss about the actors online. i started with twilightmoms (which is a great site), but stumbled upon twitarded and knew i was home. now fanfic has taken over where the twilight series has left off.

i lurves you bitches! have fun in fooooorks!!!

  21. I found Twilight in May of 2009. I went to Redbox to rent Bridewars but they were out. So I scanned through the inventory and saw Twiligh the movie. Decided that I wanted to know what was all about this silly fad. I had been recommended the series by a coworker's daughter, but had yet to even think about it because I read adult literature. I watched the film and had to read the book.(I know, now I look back and wonder what it was about in the movie that had me hooked.) So I bought the book the next day, had to wait till the next day since I had family over and it would be rude to ignore them. Well as soon as I finished Twilight I had to have the next, and the next. I read Eclipse in less than a day. I fell in love. My DH read the series to understand why I couldn't stop talking about them. In my desire for more information, I came across Twitarded and I've been stuck here ever since. Y'all got me addicted to fanfic and my DH thanks you greatly.

  23. My name is bookgirl and I'm a Twilight addict.
I guess my story is a little different. I realized my addiction when I first read Twilight WAY the fuck back in the dark ages before any of the other books were out. Becoming addicted with no subsequent fix sent me into hard core DT's. So when my sisters bought me the rest of the books for holidays etc I let them sit on a shelf. I wasn't going down that road again! I was firmly on the no-teen-vampire-books wagon and not about to fall off!
Until a lovely friend saw the movie. I had no desire to ever lay eyes on it. I had seen pictures of that weird boy they cast as Edward and was perfectly content with the Edward in my head, thank you very much. Then this friend lured me off the wagon by talking about the books, the movie, this raveshing creature who played Edward. I thought she was insane of course, but consented to read the books with her just to support her as a friend. Support turned into carrying the books around in my purse so i could read them in line at the grocery store. Lead to stalking webpages that posted pictures and video of the precious, who I quickly realized was....perfect.
But I never read Twilight blogs. Because they were for teenagers who wanted to squee and holy Mary mother of God I'm too old for that. Then I found Twitarded and I think the first post I ever read had the terms "twat waffle" "fuck" and "hoarked" in it. And I knew I had found my people.

  24. As someone posted closer to the top, I was also a late bloomer, as I did not find Twilight until March or April 2009. I remember when the movie was coming out and didn't even think about seeing it. I mean, come one, that's a teeny-bopper movie! Then, in March or April, a friend of mine was keeping my then 1 year old and when I went to pick her up, my friend asked if I had seen Twilight. I politely told her no since I'm 30 and an adult and everything. She has 2 pre-teens so they had rented it and told me I had to watch it. Since I was in a hurry and had to be somewhere, she fast forwarded through the entire movie and provided her own commentary. That weekend, I told my husband that I wanted to rent it and watched it 3 times within a 24 hour period. Later that same week, I found the book at Walmart, read it, and then immediately bought the other 3 books. I discovered that MS was out there, so I downloaded it and read it, too (it's my favorite, btw!). Then I started googling Twilight and found all these fan blogsites. One blog site introduced me to fanfiction and my house hasn't been clean since! I don't know whether to slap Stephanie Myer or kiss her for ruining my life! The hubs isn't complaining too much about the fanfiction though, if you know what I'm saying ;)

Out of all my friends who are in to Twilight, I definitely have it the worst. I don't thinkg any of them check sites daily like I do or lust after Rob like I do, so it's nice to get on here and share this with other ladies. You all are my group therapy time.

Serisouly, TK, your email written to STY and JJ could have my name signed at the bottom!

  25. Texas K that was a great post. You had me laughing out loud.
I'm still not sure how I got so obsessed with Twilight...it's all a blur. One minute I'm watching a movie, then I'm reading the books over and over again. Then I found Twitarded and there was no going back to my normal life anymore. Just when I thought I couldn't be anymore addicted, I found fan fiction.
I can stop anytime I want to!! I just don't want to!!

  26. Good job TK! Glad to know someone is minding the store.

After reading, I said to my daughter, "I'll bet they get letters like that EVERY DAY!" Another one bites the dust! The only women who don't like Robward are the ones who haven't read Twilight and seen a couple of his interviews!

I'm leaving for the airport in 3.5 hours, but I'm not leaving my Mac Book & iPhone behind. Behave. I'll be watching you!

  27. I resisted for a long, long time. Ya see, I freaking hate jumping on bandwagons and doing shit just because everyone else is...if I'm doing something popular it's because I truly LIKE it, not cuz I'm cattle.

After being hounded by 3 of my closest friends and the group of high school girls I volunteered with, when the movie came out, I found I literally had nothing in common with any of them for about 2 weeks and I got tired of being out of the loop. So, I borrowed Twilight from my best friend on Friday. She was in the middle of Breaking Dawn. Twilight definitely piqued my interest, but more in a "hey this is entertaining to read but I don't at all understand the blind DEVOTION" way. Saturday morning, I was at my best friend's door while she blinked sleepily at me, I lobbed Twilight at her, and took both New Moon and Eclipse for good measure. (kthxBAI!) New Moon grabbed me. I totally, totally related to how Bella felt and the way Stephenie described it made me feel I was not alone. Consider my mind blown! Eclipse was read twice before Saturday evening.

Sunday, like a junkie looking for a fix, I showed up unannounced to my BF's house again. This time, when she opened the door, she mentioned that she wasn't done with BD yet, so if that's what I wanted, I'd have to wait. Then shut the door. She knows me well. I hemmed and hawed for about 30 seconds before I beat feet as fast as my little tires would squeal to my nearest Borders. I think I scared one of the workers a little when I asked her, wild eyed, where the twilight books were. There was ONE BD left! I hugged it like it was fucking made of solid gold. And felt like someone died later Sunday evening when the whole series, including MS, was finished. NOOOOOOO!!!! What was I going to do??? Roam the internets of course! That's how I found ya'll. I've been lurking and reading-but not commenting yet-for a year and a half. I'm a sneaky bitch. That's probably why this is so long.

Also, I would give my fucking left nut to have Jackson Rathbone's baby. OHMAHGAWD!

  29. I picked up the book at Sam's the night the movie came out in 2008. I waited a week to read the book why? (I dont remember why I did that.) I started the book and didnt put it down until 4 am. Went to work and obsessed about the next book. In turn, I purchased (at Walmart)each book over the next four days and didnt sleep for a week. I think I found this site through LTR/LTT - my other Favorite site for the pretty and humor. Its like a drug that I have to lurk here daily and there are times I laugh out loud to where my husband looks at me like Im crazy.

The FF is insane, speaking of TK when are you updating, huh? I havent had any ff updates this week and I really miss it!

  30. I'm pretty new too! It was March 2010 and I got Twilight through Netflix. It was like movie 232 on my list because I just put it on there to make my sister in law happy. When I got the email saying the movie would be arriving in 2 days I was so excited I took of work early to meet the mail man. Sad to say but after I watched it I almost cried. I HATED it. So I went out and bought all the books things I didnt like it because I haven't read them and I so LOVED the books. Im still not a fan of the movies but I obsess over them anyways. So yeah I am one of those girls who are obsessed over something they dont really like. Its sad too because I'm still not ready to come out of the Twilight closet so you guys are my only support.

  31. Great post TK!

I started my obsession in April of 2008. I was walking around Tarjay and saw the DVD on display. I actually hadn't heard that much about it before then. It was on sale, so I tossed it in my cart with about a million other things. (I always spend a ton at Target!)

I watched it that night and loved the movie...especially Edward! The next day, I took the DVD over to my mom's house and got her hooked too.

A few days after that, I went and bought the 1st book because I'd heard that it was way better than the movie. Sure enough, I devoured it and started freaking out when I got towards the end. What was I going to do when I ran out of book to read!? So, I did what any self-respecting 30-year old woman does when she's needing a fix of her vampire fantasy book: I went to Target on my lunch hour and snatched up the other 3 books. I, like a lot of others here, had to buy Eclipse and Breaking Dawn in hard cover! Ouch! I spent the next 3 days reading the entire series....at work, on the clock. Lucky for me, it was a slow week. :)

After reading the books, I then found Midnight Sun and read that up as well. Thank Edward that Twitarded introduced me to FanFiction last year. I popped my Fanfic cherry with Wide Awake and I've been on a roll ever since. I've read MOTU, The List, Taken (is she ever going to finish that story?!?!), Hide & Drink, Osa Bella, and The Blizzard.

I have to say I'm definitely an addict, and I'm fine with that. I love the way most of our Twilight stories are very similar and most of us bought our books at Target.

  32. I too was a late bloomer and found Twilight in November 2009 when New Moon was due to be released.
It was nearly six weeks later that I finally got to read the saga in January 2010. It took me less than five days. I was hooked and neglecting my family as I read them again and again.
I thankfully stumbled across Twitarded and FF after scouring the internet for all things Rob and have never looked back :)

  33. In August 2008, my sister insisted I read this vampire series that she had just finished reading. I’ve always been a vampire/fantasy book reader so I was all about reading a new series involving some blood suckers. My hubby still speaks of the week that I read the Twilight books… He claims that he was wifeless for an entire week. I don’t remember much besides me reading those books that week, I’m not sure if I ate or even did anything around the house. I was so engrossed in those books that I just shut out the outside world, as I'm sure many of you can relate to! A few weeks later, we went to Seattle for vacation. During our hikes, I was constantly gazing into the woods wondering if Edward or some other sparklepire was out there. My sis and I saw Twilight in the theaters that following November and I remember giggling, sighing, and yelling out FAIL (I was disgusted that the movie didn’t exactly follow the book) during the entire movie. I didn’t mention my obsession to many people besides my sister.
On November 3, 2009 my sister sent me a link insisting (again) that I read this “wicked funny” blog called Twitarded. It was JJ’s post, “OME, OME!!! It’s almost time for NEW MOON!!!” (which to this day, still makes me uncontrollably giggle) that got me hooked on Twitarded. I knew that I had found my people!! I love all you crazy twat waffles. You bring a smile to my face each and every day! Great post TK : ) xoxo

  34. I love reading all the Twi-testimonials! Is there ANYONE that you all know who has read the first book and wasn't willing to sell her soul to get her hands on the next one(s)?
I read the first book last year while visiting my folks at Christmas time and told my husband that I was only reading it to find out what all the hype was about. I rolled my eyes and acted all cool, but then shooed him away from me so I could stay up until dawn to finish it. We were flying back home and I had placed New Moon inside another thinner book so he wouldn't see me reading it! I contemplated drugging my small children with Benadryl so I could read during the entire flight. Well, the book fell out of the stroller, the glossy Summit photo of B, J & E from the movie exposing me for all to see. I had to admit my addiction and advise my husband that he would need a back-up child care plan for the next several days...
The rest is pretty much the same as all the stories here. So glad I found you Twitards! xoxo

  35. The reason this blog has 1700+ followers is cuz we all could've wrote a similar email. I spent months being "too intellectual" for some silly vampire book that my son made fun of because all the 8th grade girls were in love with some creepy Edward guy. We all know at one point we borrowed, bought, stole Twilight and the rest is history. Then they cast Cedric Diggory to play said vampire in the movie. Turns out, he is most beautiful man that's ever lived!! I found Twitarded a year ago and from the first post I read, I knew I had found a home. You h00rs introduced me to fanfucktion and it has literally saved my sex life, if not my 20 yr marriage, I kid you not!!!
TK - though we've never met in person, I was so fucking sad that you weren't coming to Forks. I mean I love JJ, STY & LKW but everytime I read one of your comments I felt like you were just the shit (take it as a compliment). I know we will meet someday. "(sic) It looks like raccoons fucked in here" and the Zapruder film reference are the funniest fucking lines in a fic I've ever read!! Try and get an update out before 2012. Kthxby!!

  37. Fisrt I remember seeing previews of the movie when I bought Penelope on DVD. I was like "Cool. I want to see that." Then my family & I went to Italy that September...We were in the Las Vegas Airport when I spyed 'Twilight'. I had no idea it was a book series and at that point in time I hardly ever read any books. But hey! It's like a 5 hour plane ride and then another 7 or something. Needless to say by the time we got to Italy I was done and having severe panic attacks about finding 'New Moon' in Italy...in English. I finally found it in Sienna (THANK GOD) but it was about 4 days after we had already been in Volterra. WTF??!! Anyhow it just went on like that. Trying to find English versions of these books in Italy. I finally got Breaking Dawn when we hit Ireland. So these books kept me busy and entertained on my Euro vacation. :-)

  38. still looking for my vampSeptember 30, 2010 at 11:55 AM

TK has the keys to the kingdom. Awesome.

First, it is really crazy how many of us bought our first Twilight book at Tar-jay.

I found out about Twilight almost a year ago. My family was at the fair with another family, and me and the other mom were discussing books. She asked if I had ever read Twilight, and I said no, and asked her what she thought of it. She said, "It was OK." I ran out and bought it, finished in a day, and then ran out to get New Moon, repeat for the rest of the books.

I later questioned her about the "OK" part. She said she didn't want her husband to know she thought a book for teenagers about vampires was fucking awesome.

My life also went to hell. Well, may family's did. I didn't understand why in the world they would want clean underwear, why they would want me to cook, why they cared the house was a disgusting mess. For God sakes, I was BUSY. Couldn't they see that?

Then I found my peeps at Twitarded, and the rest is history. I love you whores!

  39. March 2010 - cool sister-in-law reading Twilight.
    "Really??" i say?
    "REALLY!!" she says
hmm, OK, I'll give it a shot.
Read the 4 books twice then discovered the "missing moments" vein of lemony honeymoon love.
Then MOTU, The List, Wide Awake, Lost Boys, WALLBANGER!, Clipped Wings, now Carpe Noctem, OSA Belllllaaaaaaaaa, **ahem** 15 steps **ahem**, Never Sleep ... etc.
Needless to say, I don't pay ANY bills on time, I disappear from my family for HOURS! My husband asked me if it was ever going to end? NEVER!!!!!! Mwah hahahaha!!
I AM A TWITARDED TWISMUT LURVER!!!

  40. This is my first comment, but I'm definitly not new to Twitarded, I'm on this website, firt thing in the morning or afternoon. I found Twilight two years ago, I was watching the trailer in October 0f 2008 with my mother and I rolled my eyes and turned to her and said, "I don't think we need ANOTHER vampire movie" and than we both watched as Edward stopped the car with his hands and our mouths fell open. We were both like yep we need to go see that. As for the book, I wasnt interested, until I saw the movie. My friend and I after we saw our second screening of Twilight (we couldn't get enough of it) went to Wal-mart and bought our copy and than just a week later (damn school got in the way) I bought the rest at Target! Just a year ago I found Twitarded and Wide Awake, my life has not been the same. You pervy wenches are my heroes!

  41. Answer to Shipstress, Yes my best friend, she read Twilight and NOTHING. She is "freaked" out by vampires and any mention of venom. She also said the series is very Victorian and infantile for her taste. WHAT? I read Twitarded because it makes me feel normal...I am obsessed by the stories from day one, read the book on our flight to Hawaii and couldn't wait to get off that island to go see first movie and get the rest of the books ASAP!! I realized thru this obsession that there are people who have a totally romantic nature, and others who are too "realistic" and practical about life, they can't relate at all, they are the ones who write about Bella being a sell out and Edward being a stalker. They don't want to be teased about sex, and romance, or fantasize about the perfect love. I totally DO >>>> who cares, and it has improved my marriage of almost 28 yrs; I dropped out of college and ran away with my teen-age love I met in another country on summer vacation....because I was just LIKE Bella, crazy about love@! He is my Edward....and now totally approves of Edward being my second husband. LOL.

  42. yeah, I didn't know twilight existed until it came out on DVD.

I was wandering around Blockbuster (RIP) and realized I had rented every damn movie on the new release shelves except for Twilight. winner by default. So I took it home and you all know what happened- I watched it twice in a row, took it back, bought my own copy, went home, watched it again, and then went on Amazon and had all four books overnighted.

after four days and zero hours of sleep, I was an official twicrackwhore. I needed another hit. I was like that Kesha song. cue going online and finding fanfiction.

years later, it's a miracle I sleep at all with all the fic out there. I am literally relating to WIDE AWAKE.

  43. My SIL tried to get me to read the books but I never did until I heard Cedric Diggory was going to be in the movie. That was all it took. I read the first 3 (multiple times) right before the last one came out.

And then came the blogs, and going to the movies by myself since I didn't have the heart to tell any of my friends about my "problem" and then...FANFIC. The bane of my existence. I love it. My husband loves the benefits but my house is dirty and will probably remain that way.

I think what I should say is that I'm happy to be in your company and even though I don't tell anyone in RL about this, it's nice to know there are lots of us out there.

  44. I remember seeing the Twilight trailer in the theater and thinking, "oh yeah, that's the vampire movie" but to be honest I have no idea where I had heard about Twilight prior to that. Last July (whilst recovering from a "necessary" surgery) I called my mom and told her I was ready to read them. (She had been hooked on them since the movie came out.) She was smart and gave me all four books.

By the next weekend I was at her house dragging every Twilight related item from her house.

I can't remember exactly how I found fan-fiction, but I'm sure it was somehow related to Google and looking for some pre-Twilight information for a story I had in my head. One thing led to another and BAM! I hear you all interviewed on the Twigasm podcast (the funniest podcast I'd ever heard).

It was nice to have some "adult" humor to add to my day!

  45. I have a man to thank for my obsession. He was the co-worker of a girlfriend of mine and we're in a book club together. He told her she should bring up this vampire book called Twlight that his wife had read and loved. My girlfriend hosted BC that month, brought up Twilight, it was voted as the book pick and the rest, they say, is history. Though all the ladies in BC liked it, it didn't blossom into quite the obsession for them as it did for me. (I'm the only one with a Mini E.) Though one of them does share my obscene fondness for fanfiction so we talk and share about that a lot.

I can't remember how I stumbled upon Twitarded, I'm just damn glad I did. It's nice to be around others who 'get' you.

Keep us all in line TK! We don't want anyone getting in trouble while the Head Twat Waffles are off galivanting in Forks. Biotches. Unless of couse getting in trouble involves a spanking, then I think we'd be okay with that.

  46. HI TK! (I'm just up 45 from you)
OOooooo TK's running the show... this is going to get crazy now! I call vodka shots or a bourbon cocktail. BTW, I love Going Down! When's our next update?? (*batting eyelashes and smile*)

OK, (*swig of my drink*) here it is:
I first saw the Twilight book at a Barnes and Noble display in early 2008. I asked the lady at the counter what the book was about since I had seen it practically everywhere. She simply said it was a book about vampires. Uh. No thanks. I wasn't into vampires at all so I dismissed it right off the bat. Looking back, that is the worst marketing of a book ever.

In Spring 2009, my hubby (god love um) brings home the Twilight DVD to watch from Blockbuster. I was hooked. Totally. I really wanted to know more about the characters (insert-Edward) so I was determined to find out about the books and see if they were worth reading. Meanwhile, my front office manager LIVED and BREATHED Twilight... so I thought I could subtly bring it up on the pretense that I wondered what all my teenage patients were chatting about. She immediately went into a full detailed explanation with arms flaying about and pulled out the first two books right then from her desk. She told me I HAD to read them. So, I took them home as a research project to relate to the "kids" I treat. Yeah, right! Within days, I found myself yakking on and on about the series. I became braver and more honest about my infatuation this year when I found Twitarded in January. I started posting in late Spring, all the while telling myself "what the hell are you doing??" Twitarded took my virginity on 2 counts: blog posting and fanfic with Osa Bella. I have very few Twilight friends IRL and none as obsessed. So, here I am with you "lovely ladies"... and you know what they say about your first...
Cheers to you and Edward! *chug*

  47. I discovered Twilight when some of my friends started reading it. I am the only one that has become "Twi-sessed" I've seen the movies countless times and read the series pretty regularly. However my fanfic obsession (Going Down being one of them) has gotten in the way with my Twilight series reading and rereading.

I discovered Twitarded through Billy Burke on Twitter.

Can you link me to "Wide Awake" please?

  50. I am a very late comer to this party, In February of 2010, I happened to be in a Walgreen's and noticed Twilight displayed in paperback near the cash register, so since I'd been hearing about it from some of my younger co-workers, I said "Oh what the hell, why not?" And, the rest as they say, is history. I learned that very night that, yes indeed, you can read 400+ pages overnight. Of course, I and went out the next day to get New Moon and went out a couple of days later and got Eclipse and Breaking Dawn - in my mind and heart at that moment was the horror that I would finish reading one without the next book at hand to read! At this same time, New Moon was at the dollar theater and I went to see it, I went to see it 8 times in less than 2 weeks, I also rented Twilight from Netflix and watched it numerous times in a few days and then went and bought it. The New Moon DVD release party was coming up pretty soon, so I pre-ordered NM from Borders and attented the midnight release party. I also bought the NM movie guide and cut out dozens of the pictures and redecorated my cubicle at work and it was the envy of all my younger co-workers (who by the way were tickled to pieces at my conversion to the "Twilight side"). Twilight was now the first topic and the last topic of conversation at work - I told my boss who was the CFO that "I have lost my mind" and she asked me if I would like her to help me look for it and I said "no, I really don't want to find it". She had also read all of the books numerous times and seen the movies. (I couldn't get her to go to the NM dvd release party with us however!) So, of course, Eclipse was released and I went to the midnight premiere with my work twihards and had one of the best times of my life (does that make me pathetic?) But, then we all got laid off. So since I've had a lot of time on my hands, guess what I started doing. Yeah, fanfic. Now I have completely lost touch with RL and have never been happier. I discovered Twitarded about 3-4 months ago, and all the crazy, twatwaffles here who I consider my "peeps".

Well, gotta run - my computer was bonkshit crazy for a couple of days and I have to catch up on Osa Bella and MotU.

  51. Hai TK ~ Let's see....it Thursday at 9:30pm (pt) and I am reading your hysterical and less than sober tweets at the moment! Came over here to see what's up with the Forks field trip and here you are again...a little more sober I might add.

My Twiaddiction began with my sister going on and on and on about her lurve for a Vampire on her FB page. I kept calling her nuts because I had just seen the movie (by none other than Mr. D. Slade) "Thirty Days of Night" and those vampires were some nasty ass bloodsuckers....they were definitely not "vegetarians" nor did they sparkle. Anyhoo, this was the summer of 2009 and just before I was about to go on my two week vacation...I needed something to read and picked up Twilight book to see what the fuss was about. This was after I saw a DVD of the movie and though it was the hokiest thing I had seen in awhile. Read the book anyway and well....you all know the story....the obsession began. I could not put it down, when I finished it I just had to read New Moon immediately - devoured that and got my next hit with Eclipse (still my fave) and the on to Breaking Dawn (yes, slightly disappointed in that one) to get my final fix of Edward & Bella (and Edward and more Edward). Saw the movie again and then the Rob fascination kicked in which lead to massive Internet searching leading me to ......here, Twitarded...you guessed it. And then fan fiction took it to a whole other level. I have pretty much stopped watching anything on television now as I am glued to my computer and my phone and now contemplating a Kindle all because of FanFic. And "Wide Awake" was also my fic cherry popper....I felt like I had found the mother of all highs with that one! Moved on to "CW&IA" and never looked back.

I sometimes ponder when this will end...eh, who cares?! Now I need to go back to my FFN favorites list to see who updated one of the dozens of fics I am reading at any given time, cuz I need my fix.

  52. Along with all the fanfic I'm reading, I am also actually reading books, the kind with paper pages - a friend has been rec'ing The Black Dagger Brotherhood and...I'm on book #4. These are really, really good, I can rec them definitely. However...after reading all the comments on this post, I have an overwhelming desire to re-read Twilight, NM, Eclipse and BD again. There is just nothing else like Twilight.

  53. TK, basically the same way as you. Saw the previews for the movie, started researching it. Found out it was a book. Saw the movie and went the half a block down the shopping center to the book store and bought Twilight and New Moon (I actually audibly gasped in the store when I saw there was more than 1 book). My fanfiction addiction came right after I finished the books (for the second time). Now I read and write FF religiously. I found Twitarded this summer and I think my obsession (which was starting to wain after Eclipse's release) was renewed in full force, mainly because everything said on here are basically my own thoughts!!!

  54. Will you bitches stop pushing the goddamned fan fic, puleeeeeeze?!! I have completely neglected all productive and/or family-nurturing uses of my time since I fell down this godforsaken Twilight rabbit hole. Luckily for me, I was able to resist the Twi-pushers (yup, talkin about you, MOTHER) until I was sooper B-O-R-E-D on deployment (don't pity, it was Guam) this Spring. So I've only lost 1/2 a year (so far) of my precious life to the books, the movies, the toys, the blogs, the tweets and that squirrely Robert Effing Pattinson. But I do not, would not, could not, have ANY SPARE TIME to add horny fan fic to this neverending suck of that is the TwiUniverse black hole. But there you are on the blogs, gushing about it. There you are on Twitter, rubbing one out to it. There you are on YouTube, making fuck hawt vids about it.
I have been strong, and I have resisted. But something, just something about the way you refer to this "Wide Awake." **I just need to know**

Nothing good is going to come of this, is it?
    Well, fuckit.

  55. I saw the ads for the movie and thought "interesting." Then I saw the lines of teenagers on the news and thought "Mkay...not so much." I don't think of myself as very literary, I only managed to make it through 20 pages of an Austen novel but I do get the jokes in Shakespeare. Fast forward a few months...I'd pretty much forgotten all about Twilight when I found it in my OnDemand listings. It was available for 24 hour rental and clearly I was searching for SOMETHING to watch, so I said "what the hell." After my first viewing, I saw that it was based on a novel, so I started the video over again and started searching for the book online. I couldn't go out and buy the book right then because everything was closed. So I read everything I could while the movie played. I finally managed to go to bed only to wake up early the next day to watch it again...bookstores weren't open yet, so why not? After it ended, I got myself put together and headed to Barnes and Noble (never occured to me to check at Target or Walmart). I got home and started reading. I put it down long enough to make dinner and watch Twilight one more time before my rental ran out. After that, I didn't put it down until well after midnight and that's ONLY because I had a few chapters left and, obviously, I needed something to do between waking up and the bookstore opening the next day so I could purchase the rest of the books (consequently, BD came out that week). Some how (coughunemployedcough) I read all four books in 4 days flat. I'm not a slow reader by any means, but these are some long ass books. I couldn't get it out of my head. I searched online for more Twilight stuff...anything and everything. I ended up joining TwilightMom's on Facebook which was GREAT, but I found I was a lot more crass than most of them. Then they started posting links to Twilight blogs and someone suggested I check Twitarded out. So here I am...THANK GOD! I love my TwiMom's, but here...it's like I found people who share my brain! I'm back in an obsession mode and I've run out of books to read, so I may actually start reading fanfic...cept I won't have access at work. Life is cruel.

    Totes love this blog.

She said I would like it as it was also a great romance. Not convinced I did nothing. August 2nd came and my two nieces wanted my sister and I to take them to the book store 45 minutes away.(We were on vacation and not close to town.}I said "What for"? They said the last book of the twilight saga was released and they had to have it.So I read Twilight. I ran into my nieces bedroom and screamed you have New Moon here right. The rest is history. When I got back to work I told a couple of my co-workers about them.Isaid you'll love them all but you may not thank me as your life will never be the same. Only I didn't have the balls to buy my books - I made my Mom do it for me. 61.

OHMAHGAWD!
