Biting Off More Than I Can Chew

And I'm not talking about cock, either. Well, technically that would be sucking or licking - not chewing - because I'm pretty sure that chewing on cock isn't really going to be appreciated by the owner of said penis and the result of such action would probably be really high-pitched dude-screaming and possibly a punch to the eye.

Anyway.

November is National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo for short (except that sounds like a really painful disease to me). Basically, the challenge is to write a fifty-thousand-word novel in one month. 50K in 30 days.

Naturally, because I have oodles of time on my hands, what with a full time job, a hellish fucking commute, and this blog and all, I decided I was going to take the NaNoWriMo challenge.

Actually, I'm pretty sure Myg strong-armed me into doing this, that bitch. She's lucky she's such an awesome cuddler, that's all I'm saying. Plus, I have a serious girl crush on her. Oh, and she's a fucking talented writer and I want to touch her in the hopes that some of that talent brushes off on me.

Fifty thousand words, folks. In thirty days. When I told ML I was going to do this, he sighed and said it was nice knowing me. Snarkier Than You said something like, "That's great. You still have to post on Twitarded."

In her defense, I think I prefaced my "I signed up for NaNoWriMo" email with, "I swear I'll still post so don't kill me but..."

But I never said my posts were going to be good.

So here's my post, bitches. Hope you like it.

Honestly, even Mommy(not a)Jerkface thinks I'm an asshole sometimes.

Okay, I'm kidding!! In all seriousness, it occurred to me that I probably should have written this post a few weeks ago and not on the night after the challenge starts because I bet there are a few of you out there that would like to take this challenge with me.

Well, with a lot of us, actually. Myg is on board, along with Suzspetals, My Car is an XKR, A Girl in the South, StarLit Violets, Inotu, Jayme805 and a bunch of others who probably now hate my fucking guts for not including them. Most, if not all, of these lovely ladies are on Twitter, if you're so inclined to seek to them out.

My brain is like cheesecloth, people. I apologize in advance.

If you do want participate - sign up here! Most of all, don't be afraid to just try. Your story doesn't have to even be thought out yet, mainly because I still have almost no clue what the fuck I'm going to write and I want more people in my oh-mah-gahd-what-am-I-gonna-write-about?? boat.

I'm captain of the WTF boat! Now pass the whiskey.

This is just a great opportunity to have a good time, try your hand at writing a novel, and encouraging and supporting the rest of us who are taking the challenge. Because if there is one thing you ladies are amazing at, it's supporting and cheering each other on. So many of you have blogs now and it's great to see the comments you leave on each others' posts.

Seriously, this community never ceases to amaze me. We really are like flowers and rainbows and unicorns and all that shit.

Well, flowers and rainbows and unicorns who like porn. And poop jokes. And cursing.

I need this on a t-shirt. Now.

Whatever. You know what I mean.

In the meantime, I have a girl with a scar on her cheek that I need to fuck around with. And for once, her name ain't Bella. There is an Eddie character in my NaNoWriMo novel, however.

I had to have at least one Twilight-y reference, after all.

So, if you're writing this year, let us know in the comments!! If you've done this before but are still recovering, feel free to give up some tips and inside information.

  1. Oh yeah, I'm doing NaNoWriMo after hearing about it for so long and because I need accountability, I'm doing fanfic (aka, I'm a glutton for punishment).

And since I generally write by sitting down and pounding out 8k in one day, I should be okay, right? RIGHT?!!?

My epic quest (or epic GOING DOWN IN FLAMES) will be on my fanfic page. Or if the linky fails, I'm lazykate over on FF.net.

  2. So...I SHOULD be writing right now. Know what? I'm not. I'm playing on twitter and reading Twitarded instead. *sigh*.

I have to average 1667 words per day (including Thanksgiving) to get this done. I've done in before so I know that I can....but this year's going to be waaaaaay more fun....I got tweeps now to write with me!!!

Okay....back to Scrivener now and that Nathan character.....who's sort of hot, by the way, in a I'm-not-a-vampire-but-I'm-still-really-cool kind of way.

I don't think I even make sense anymore today.

  3. JJ, you know I'm IN! And I am totally nuzzling your rack next time I see you. Which probably won't be until 12/1.

30 days of literary omgwtf-am-I-doing abandon!

    Who wants to dance?

    GO!

  4. You put me last??!?!? YOU PUT ME LAST?!?!?! Just kidding kind of.. thank you for putting me at all.

I'm shitting my pants over this whole Nanawrito thing. (FYI I hate writing/saying NaNoWriMo. You're right, sounds like a horrid case of the herp or something. If it were, I would hope it wouldn't take 30 days to go away.) Particularly because I work full time and the last thing I want to do is come home and sit on my computer to do anything other than read blogs and fan fic in my pajamas. BUT I took the damn challenge in hopes of being more creative or some shit like that. Let's hope it works.

For the record other readers, JJ sent me the first part of her novel....it's awesome. So if her blogs suck here, it's because she's busy being awesome somewhere else. Hoping to read more of it if she doesn't forget about me since I'm last in this post. Whatever. Jerkface.

  5. God Bless you all! I'm amazed and impressed that anyone would accept such a challenge. I don't have the imagination or talent to attempt it, but I offer my support - it there is anything I can do to help you guys pull this off, please don't hesitate to speak up!

    You go girls!

  6. I'm in as well. And I had the stupid idea to do NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month) as well as a photo diary. I'm stupid and I have a feeling something is going to slip or I will start to drink a lot. I'm praying for the latter without and shitting or peeing on myself... in public.

Wishing everyone who is attempting this 50K word masterpiece inspiration.

  7. I'm going for it. On top of school(senior in college) and a healthy social life(sitting in front of tv with hubby), I'm going for it. I need the pressure that Nanowritmo provides. Otherwise this novel that's floating around in my head might never see the light of day.

  8. Alas I couldn't write to save my ass, most of the time the English language eludes me. Ask me to whip up a wedding dress or a pervy pair of panties I'm there. Write a story never gonna happen. I'll be cheering you all on! NaNoWriMo sounds like something Mork from Ork would say..... I'm I dating myself here!?!
    Anyways. Go girls!

  9. LMAO at "I'm captain of the WTF boat! Now pass the whiskey." JJ, darling, that's nothing new - welcome to the past almost-two-years of your life. Remember the maiden voyage to FORKS a month ago? You sailed that ship just fine. (Now hintfreakinghint - LETS GO AGAIN.)

Well you already know I'm in... I'll be the one in the fetal position, possibly intoxicated (sorry Mom), at Thanksgiving dinner. One chapter in, Twi ref #1: I have an extremely minor character named Charlie. Natch. Love me some Charlie.

  10. Best wishes and inspiration to all of you! My goal for November is to get the final 2 effing chapters of my book done.So you will be writing circles around me.

  11. I'm in! When ever the NaNo site is back up, I'm Wardegus. Which would be the most epic German Heavy Metal band name ever.

  12. I admit it: I am a selfish bitch. But you knew that when you met me. So when you said "Hey I am going to do this really awesome thing that would be great for me as a writer!!!" of course my natural response was going to be "That sounds fucking AWESOME as long as your writing 5,000 words of an original fic a day doesn't interfere with your posting on the blog!!!" and you were all "Not a problem!!!" sooo...

MWAH!!! love you bb... but between you doing NoMoWriStuff, LKW off hunting large mammals that are not RPatts, TK writing her butt off, (what little butt she has) and Myg also writing up a non-fan-fic-y storm, I am feeling a tad... well... you know.

  13. Good luck to all of you in this endeavor! I'm worn out just reading about it...

  14. I did this last year and got my work to sponsor me. This year... fuck that. But that’s me and my lame ass schedule.

For those that are willing to suffer the long nights, the arthritis, the countless writer’s block, the many cups of coffee. You fucking go girl! It is for a very good cause, and youth writer programs are near and dear to me.

Make a dedicated daily word count and stick to it!

Good luck JJ and to everyone else who’s doing it.

Hey maybe you could add a paypal link and we can rally to get you a good donation?

  15. Good thing you have TK to help out with the posting duties! ;)

JJ, picture me slapping your ass and squeeeing "Way to go h00r!"

Everyone else, good luck. Much love and respect to anyone who's participating...my new job is sucking my brain cells away...for now.

    xo J

  16. Aw crap. She wrote my name on the blog. I guess there's no backing out now. I confess, I'm already a little behind schedule on my NaNo story because I'm finishing the epilogue for The Family Business... also behind. But when I get on a tear, I can write like crazy so I will succeed. I'm stoked to have a bunch of other nuts to burn the midnight oil with. See you in 30 days!

  17. I'm in as annasense on the nanowrimo site. I "won" last year... what a sense of accomplishment it was! You can do it. You'll have bad days, but just remember you'll have good days, too. I had a few 5,000 word days last year (and many times this year, too, in non-nano-months). Last year, I worked on my third novel in my series of three... The competition helped to push me to the end. I mean, I can tell people I've written novels! It's fascinating to know that I did it. Anytime you need a little push, let me know.

  18. So I guess we ain't gonna get a 15 Step update this month...? Just saying.

    Good Luck to you all.

  19. Not doing it this year, too much on my plate with the end of the semester. But, I'm totally willing to proofread anybody's stories. I knew that English degree would come in handy for something!

  20. It would take me the whole month of November to even think of something to write. And then it still wouldn't be good. I remember in High School when I would count each word of my reports/essay to make sure they were 500-1000 words! LOL!

I'll just be a part of the Cheerleading squad. Give me a W!! Give me a R!! Ok. That's enough for now. LOVE YA!!

  21. I've been thinking about writing, but I'm considering some one-shot scenarios to start off with. And I finally took the leap and started a blog. So I've promised myself that I will be become more active on other blogs, so hopefully you all don't get sick of me!!

Anyhoo, back to you.... NaNoWriMo. Wow. That's quite a task to take on on top of everything else. Good for you. Hope we get to read the results (not just yours, but all you out there who are writing).

  22. I am in this year! Add me as a buddy, people. I'm happy to read/share/commiserate with any and all of you.

  23. I have no previous beta experience, but will totes volunteer if anyone needs one.

  24. I wish I had the cajones to jump aboard the WTF ship. I do love to write but the last time I seriously 'wrote' anything was mainly boring researchy types in college, with a few creative pieces thrown in for good measure. And my personal journal, but that's just for bitching.

I'd say f*ck it and jump in but I'm skeerrdd!!

But I will cheerlead my arse off for all you amazing women taking on this challenge!

    Maybe next year...

  25. I went from "ZOMG! I'M GOING TO MAKE NANOWRIMO MY BITCH!" to "I quit" in about 2 days. I would need at least a 46 hour day and an IV full of meth to participate this year. I'll cheer everyone else on. My skirt is usually over my head anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Totally there and totally supposed to be writing. Insted I thought, "I'll go see what those crazy Twitarded girls are doing for a break." (insert eye roll) I can rationlaize most anything. Anyway....you can do it. Just keep writing and stop editing! :) Editing is for next month or year! Good luck!!

  27. I am in too.. Ive written a few short stories, never tried fan fic and have never written anything in this magnitude but willing and workin on giving it a shot. I am Kerra there if anyone wants to add me as well.. I got a few of you added to mine hehe

  28. I'm with Smitten-never beta'd before, but I'm down for editing/reviewing/whatever you guys need! You guys can do this!
