Fic Rec's: Get 'Em While They're Hot

We haven't done any fanfic rec's in a while so I think it's high time we slip on our Teflon panties and dive head first into the smut pit. Who wants to join me?

Banner by Ange de l'aube

Died and Gone to Heaven by DoYouTrustMe
Accidents happen. Sometimes you die and meet God. Sometimes you live and meet SexGod. B&E.

I was literally crying I was laughing so hard while reading this. Tears. Streaming down my face. It's a short story that's complete so you really have no excuses not to read this. She also writes Blame it on Rio, which has been on my To Be Read List for a while. I hear good things about it.

In Transit by profmom72 and Lillybellis
Riding the same bus every day, Edward and Bella get off to a bumpy start. She thinks he's stuck-up; he thinks she's shallow. Sometimes what seems like the wrong thing turns out to be exactly what you were waiting for. A FGB novella for mujisan.

This is a rec for Jenny Jerkface. I know she lurves riding public transportation. I bet she'd feel less stabby if Edward Cullen rode with her. This story is just sweet and adorable. It's another short story, but the characters have amazing depth. It's plot-centric and not lemon heavy, but I think Latchkey Wife should read it anyway.

Not Edward Cullen. Why can't RL be more like fan fic?

This next one is a brand new story and it has blown me away. I swore I wouldn't start another incomplete fic. Then Lola-Pops posted this gem and it was like throwing donuts in a Weight Watchers meeting. My willpower crumbled in a millisecond. It is pwning my ass like you can't even imagine. I defy you to read it and not love it. If you haven't read Lola's other story, Summer of Salt, you can't even speak to me anymore.

We Were Here by lola-pops
Upon waking, there's a brief, blissful period in which you don't yet recall the sins of the night before, but eventually, you have to open your eyes. I'm Bella Swan, seventeen years old, cheerleader. This morning I woke up in the wrong bed.

Jenny Jerkface hopping in here with my two cents for one hot second:

For the first time ever on this blog (I think-- don't hold me to that. I can't remember what the fuck I wore yesterday so...) I'm rec'ing a Jasper/Bella fic.

That's right, I said it. There's not a whole lot of lemons but there is some UST. The author does a great job of giving Jasper a voice and I really enjoyed the independent, more "adult" Bella.

See for yourself below:

Lessons Unexpected by Alexis Danaan (Twilighted)
Edward never came back. But that's okay, because Bella Swan is doing fine. Her life has been vampire free for four years and, while it was rough at first, she's content with her new life. That is, until a certain vampire casually walks back into her life. Can Bella accept the lessons that life is trying to teach her? Or is her future doomed to be dictated by her past?

The next rec also includes a little Jasper/Bella lovin' in the beginning but eventually the characters fall into canon pairings. This is one of those fics that is well written, meticulously thought-out and will more than likely have a happily ever after, which is something that I don't usually look for in a fic, because I'm dark and demented.

My Perfect Mr. Imperfect by xrxdanixrx (Twilighted)
Bella wanted Mr. Perfect, but he didn’t want her. When Mr. Imperfect comes along, can she look close enough to see just who is more perfect for her? A story about falling in love with the imperfections.

Someone way more talented than me made this banner.

The last one is something that was rec'd here before, but it recently updated. Run to read it if you haven't already.

Expectations and Other Moving Pieces
by chrometurtle
Everything I had done in my life seemed to lead up to this moment. The moment when I found myself bound inextricably to a man I didn't love, trapped in a life I didn't want. And if I left him, I would be entirely alone.

My favorite part of recommending stories is hearing what all of you are reading. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I get so excited to hear about new stories, but my To Be Read list is out of control. I need to hire someone with a sexy voice to follow me around and read fic to me 24/7.

I love reading, TK. Can I be of service?

  1. I totes agree on "Died and Gone to Heaven" I love that fic so much I voted for it and it won in its category. Warning though, don't drink while reading this fic, it causes maximum spewage, might ruin screen and keyboards. DoYouTrustMe is a wonderful writer and she got me hooked on "Blame it on Rio" with her sex on the hammock teaser.
"In Transit" is another fic that I'm following right now since its a WIP, but there's only one more chappie left so start with it now.
All your other recs are on my list of ff to read. I'm reading so much ff I haven't bought any books in months. But that's alright coz I'm saving money anyway.
So keep the recs coming coz there are lots of writers churning out wonderful stories for us to lose sleep on. I even read ff at work (as well as your blog), and it surprises me that I'm still employed with the amount of time reading ff and googling Robp0rn while at work.

  3. I hate pimping my own fic but I love you guys and have been reading Twitarded posts forever because no one makes me laugh the way you do! I have a story called Fridays at Noon that has been pretty well-received so far (11 chapters posted). If I had the Twitarded stamp of approval that would be pretty awesome! It is a WIP but I post every Friday, I swear!
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6453369/1/Fridays_at_Noon
Edward Masen's life intersects with Bella's at the restaurant he dines at for lunch every Friday. He's handsome, arrogant, and is used to avoiding love. She isn't impressed by the things that usually have women falling at his feet. AH/AU.

  4. We Were Here!
You are totally right TK. I challenge anyone to read the current chapters and NOT get latched on like a crack whore. I swear when I see that one update it's the beat high ever. Then I read it and go into withdrawals until the next chapter posts. I will have to check out those others.

Guess I'm not going to get any of my own writing done since I have these rec'd Fics to read...my readers will just have to deal.

Speaking of good stories, TK where's our update for Going Down?!?!? I need my fix, bitch!!!! LOL

  5. I am taking a break from Summer of Salt right this minute to come over and check out your post! It is AWESOME, and I wish I was a rich teenager with a summer cabin.

    Thanks for the recs!

  6. Oh man, TK, you're killing me! My lists of fics I'm reading and fics I plan to read soon are so out of control that even I'm embarrassed of me. And yet, I'm still grateful for the new recs :) Thank you!

vw: boistaf (that sounds like a very fanficky word!)

  8. troublefollows1017 - I fucking love your fic! I hope all twitards are reading it.

  9. my fave fic now is "The Woods are Lovely, Dark, and Deep", which was rec'd here a while ago. A bit slow to update but an intense, great fic with plenty of Darkward and some mysterious vampy action. It should be wrapping up soon though.

Just got a Kindle for Xmas, and I remember a mention that there's a way to put FF on. Can someone help me out? Portable FF will ruin my life, but I must have it!

  10. I really am loving Puddle Jumping by 107YearOldVirgin and Heat of a Blue Flame also by her. Oh and her Humpward story has some great one-liners. The one that sticks with me is that Edward is an old dude's name and he should have a sexier name like "Fellatio". Love it.

Don't know if you've caught recs for The Diva Diaries by KiyaRaven. So good, its crackfic. Or The Art Teacher by spanglemaker9.

  11. FLH - I also got a Kindle for Christmas. I print each FF chapter into a PDF then upload to my Kindle. I have to set the page diameters at 4.00 inches by 5.00 inches and still sometimes a line might get cut off but it works for the most part. If anyone has a better way, please share.

Oh and I can't seem to sign in under my name since I can't remember my password but I'm Muffy. Posting virgin until today because of the password issue but couldn't not rec fic so here I post anonymously.

  12. Oh and I wanted to say thanks for adding yet more fics to my list when I really should be re-reading the Fever books in preparation for Shadowfevers release on 1/18. If you haven't ever read the books I highly, highly suggest them. I promise that if you get through the first 40 pages of Darkfever you will bow down at my feet and kiss them for getting you started on this series. I love it as much as Twilight. By Karen Marie Moning. Don't let the shelving in the romance section scare you. Its not a romance at all. Its hot.

  13. I am loving High Anxiety by EdwardsBloodType and House of Cards by TheRunAway. My list of Fanfic just gets longer and longer, its hard to remember what happened in which story!

  14. I have jotted all of these recs down, thanks!

I don't comment often, 'cause I'm just not very witty, but I wanted to share the tool I use to get FF onto my Kindle.

    http://www.home-eisele.de/downloader_e.php

Raimond updates it frequently, and annoyingly an old version will not work properly, so you must get the latest version, but otherwise it works like a charm.

Hope this is helpful, and happy reading!

    ReplyDelete
  15. D'oh, forgot to mention that the tool is a converter tool. You can choose to convert the fic to a number of formats, including the .mobi type, which is what a Kindle uses.

    :)

  16. Oh great, like I've got nothing better to do and I need more fics to fill my time.

My favorite right now is "The Practice of Love" by BellaDonnaCullen. First chapter Bella (a doctor) has to check a new patient (Edward) for testicular cancer. Come on now... you know you want to read the first chapter where Bella gets to feel up Edward!!!

@FragileLittleHuman and @Muffy - I love reading fics on my Kindle!!!

If you want to read "live" (and you have a 3G or wifi connection), you can go to the browser and type in the name of the fic you want to read and Google will usually find it. If it's a fic that you want to read offline, but it's still posted on the regular fic sites, you can download it from this site:
    http://fanfictionloader.appspot.com

From there you can download as an HTML file and then rename it to a TXT file and then copy it to the correct folder on your Kindle. Or you can download directly to MOBI which the Kindle will read without any modification. (I like HTML in case I love the story and want to go in and fix all of the stupid spelling errors that I can't help but want to fix... it's the CDO kicking in.)

If you've got a PDF file the Kindle can read it directly, but you're limited by the page size. If the text is too small (like you downloaded it and can't change the size to 4x5 as Muffy mentioned), I've reverted to rotating it so it's readable, but I've recently found that I can use Adobe Acrobat Professional to "Save As" an HTML file (remember to rename it to a TXT file). That way I can zoom in without a ridiculous amount of scrolling and squinting.

If you're looking for a fic that was pulled look for @TwilightFFnFics on twitter. She's collecting pulled fic files from readers who downloaded them before they were pulled and is posting them on a website that changes every so often. I just check out her Twitter Bio for her most recent website location.

  17. Loooooooved Died & Gone to Heaven!!!!
    Here are my recs:
Paper CutOuts: Bella prefers the virtual to the actual, but feels herself being tugged from the safety of her online realm into the world of a rough edged Edward. This time she'll write her own story. Rated M/Tattooward!!!
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5993964/1/bPaper_b_bCutOuts_b

Fear is the Mind Killer: Bella audits Cullen Hospital but there is something about her that can do what no one else can, bring the jaded Edward Cullen to his knees. Watch as Bella and Edward level each other in ways neither thought possible.(Waaaay better than the summary). Rated M
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5589556/1/Fear_Is_The_Mind_Killer

Misapprehension of Bella Swan: This fic is the funniest I've read!!! How can you not love Hockeyward?!?!?!?! Rated M

    Enjoy!!!!!!!

  18. I'm reading "Last Tango in Forks" right now & am loving it.
Thanks for the recs, I will have to add them to my very long list of 'need to reads'.

  19. @Muffy @Fragile Little Human

I don't know if this would work in the States but I send all my ff to my kindle.

I use my "free kindle" email address which Amazon set up when I bought my kindle.

    for example - muffy@free(dot)kindle(dot)com

    (1) create an email
(2)in the "TO" box type your free kindle email address
    (2) in the "SUBJECT" type the word CONVERT
    (3) link ff (any format) as an attachment
    (4) send!

This way you can change the font size of the document in the same way as an ebook.

    Hope this makes sense!

  21. Thanks for the new recs, I'm sure someday I'll be current on all the fics I'm into now and want something new.

I have two great one-shots that you have to check out. They were both entries for The Cherry Exchange contest.

    Soft by TeamBella23
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6463855/1/

Summary: Traumatized by his brother during the birds and the bees talk, Edward, a eighteen year old virgin and Bella, his girlfriend are ready to take their relationship to the next level. There's only one problem, Edward is terrified of the Chinese finger trap. Awkward, funny… AH, slightly OOC. Lemons and purely my kind o fun.

Little Green and Easy Bella by BettiGefecht
    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6412470/1/

Summary: Bella and Edward have met before. But she only remembers a silent little boy, and he doesn't remember her at all. When they see each other again after years, nothing is the same any more. Really nothing?
ExB, AU, AH (rated M for lemon, not smut)

  22. Just wanted to pop by and say thanks for the rec of Died and Gone to Heaven! I'm excited to read some of those other stories, too.

Expectations and Other Moving Pieces has my heart in a vice. It's so very, very good.

Thanks again for the lurve. ~♥~

  23. I can always use more fanfic to add to my TBR list... Thanks! And - as if we don't already have enough - you can also find a bunch of fics among the Twinklings Walk Of Fame Award nominees: http://twinklingswfa.blogspot.com/p/story-nominees.html

This list of nominees includes not only OSA Bella by MYG (which TOTALLY belongs there) but also two of my stories (not so sure about them, but still very happy): a femmeslash one-shot called Locker Room Girl and my collab story Smutiversity.

Heh. How's that for shameless self plug?

  24. Thanks for adding to my two trillion TBR list!! :D

    Two fantastic fics to rec...
*Beyond Time* A clever, intricate and funny fic where the post-NM dumped 2010 Bella goes back in time to meet and fall in love with 1918 Edward. He's not exactly the same as Vampire Edward ... in some ways. Great read.

    http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5755522/1/Beyond_Time

Lots of good UST and a sexy, sweet Edward in The Wedding Party
