Twilight Tattoos: You're Doing It Wrong

Two things you should know about me: I love Twilight and I am a giant pussy. How are those two things related? I'd like to get a tattoo of some sort, but I know I never will. The thought of needles makes me break out into a cold sweat. I pushed out a seven pound, eleven ounce baby au naturel and had my wisdom teeth removed with minimal local anesthetic because I. Hate. Needles.

I'm kind of in awe of people who have really cool tattoos. I can't imagine putting anything permanent on my body. My taste changes more often than JennyJerkface empties her bowels. (I already regret using the words "taste" and "bowels" in the same sentence.) For me to make that level of commitment, I'd have to be certain I'd want to wear it forever. I really don't need to walk around with the tattoo equivalent of a leisure suit for the rest of my life. I've got enough problems.

The tattoos below make me sad that these people paid money for this.

Billy Ray Cullen—his collar looks like a mullet. Did this tattoo have plastic surgery? Why is there a scar on his chin?

This is what it would look like if my books fell in the garbage disposal.

I'm actually a big fan of the "Be Safe" tattoos, but whiskey tango foxtrot on the wolf tattoo? Please tell me Taycob's signature is just pen ink & not 'ink' ink. Hope she likes long sleeves.

Why does that apple have a bite taken out of it? Oh yeah, and why does Edward look like Elijah Wood and Eddie Munster's love child?!!!

Pssst. Your lack of taste is showing.

This is supposed to be Dr. Cullen's signature. It looks like he double-tapped her with a Glock.

So many jokes. So little time. My main question is: why is there ringworm where Jacob's neck should be?

This one is my favorite because it looks like Edward is thinking about dolphins. It kind of puts a whole new twist on the books for me. "As if you could out run me, Flipper. Well, you are faster than lightening under the sea."

Do you have any bad tattoos or any good Twilight tattoos? Do you have any tattoo horror stories that could further scar me for life? I expect everyone to show me theirs in Forks. Just don't talk about needles.

  1. I have no tattoos whatsoever (my mum said that I could get one if I wanted to as a 21st birthday present, but she gets to choose the design). Sorry, no Twilight tats for me. The only cool one I've seen was that Wolf pack insignia, but I'm too much of a Team Cullen fangirl to ever consider that.
Though in the perfect world where I wasn't afraid of needles, I'd get the Dark Mark from Harry Potter on my arm though.

Though seriously, what the fuck were some of these people thinking?

  2. Those are just god awful!! I too am not one for needles TK. I faint at the doctor when being given a shot, I actually took the doctor with me to the floor one time. However I do have 2 tattoos. My first tattoo is also the larger of the two. It is a tribute to my sorority from college, three flowers that represent our three ideals with the Chinese kanji for each word over the respective flower. The second is a panda bear and shooting star in my inner ankle. I was really expecting it to be horrible getting the tattoo, bit it really isn't bad. It felt like when a cat scratches you, and after about 10 mons you don't feel it anymore.
I have considered a Twilight tattoo but can't committ to putting anything twilight related permanently.
I think if we get you drunk enough in Forks we'll convince you to get a tat, TK!!!

  3. I laughed, I cried, I threw up in my mouth a little bit.

I do not have a tattoo. I have always wanted one. I told myself that I had to wait 5 years and if I still wanted the same thing, I could get it. 5 years came and went...and god damn it if I just really didn't give a fuck anymore..and had way better shit to spend $200 on.

That being said, the wedding has come and gone and I am too old to give a shit what other people think anymore...so I can't say I won't do it in the future.

THAT being said -- I have some pride, some taste and some fucking sense...I won't be getting a freaking twilight tattoo, that is for damn sure, and certainly not over a roll of back fat. Although...I do think I will add some french script below it...

  4. I have three tattoos and want at least a one more to complete the set... in true CDO fashion, I have one in the middle of my back (an X that I got with my best friends during an X-Files related trip), one on the nape of my neck (a compass rose so that my navy husband always finds his way back to me) and one on my left thigh (a die that has a twin on my best friend's ankle), but I now MUST get something on the right side of my body to balance out.

I have considered getting a Twilight tattoo, but only if it relates to me in another way as well. What I want is a feather, soft and wispy that looks like it's falling. Works well with Breaking Dawn AND because I want to take flight, creatively and spiritually and sometimes literally.

Also, TK, I will now forever think of Edward when I think of dolphins and I will laugh heartily. :)

All I can say is to each their own... and maybe cover it up so I don't have to see it!

  6. I have two tattoos, not twi-related.

I understand there might be some really good reasons to get a portrait inked on you, but loving a movie IS NOT ONE OF THEM. Also, haterz gon hate (what? I'm in college, this is how all of us speak right?), so I'll just say I respectfully agree to disagree with anyone who says otherwise.

Now, awesome book/movie/whatever quotes that are really, really important to you? Sure. I get that.

  7. I have no tattoos, but like you, I want one but I can't decide on what or where, and I'm deathly scared of the pain. But I want one so bad. I love them. I love seeing the art of different tattoo artists. I am completely in awe of it.

But I am no in awe of these tattoos....at all. I also think the Be Safe tattoos are pretty cool. But I would never get a Twi tattoo. I'm pretty sure in a few years it will be just as embarrassing as having an NKOTB tattoo. Never get a fad permantly put on your skin is probably a good motto to live by.

And the lady with the twifecta on her thigh....if your thigh is big enough to support a tattoo of that size and hideousness, you should not have a thigh tattoo. My 2 cents.

  8. Aaaahh. This is one of those feel good posts- like meeting someone at AA who is WAY more fucked up than you and afterward having just a little more spring in your step. As you step your way to the bar.

One tattoo for me so far, and not Twi-related. But, there but for the grace of god go I. Assuming a) god, and b) god cares about tattoos.

  9. These tattoos make my eyes bleed.

I don't think I could ever get a Twilight related tattoo, it's just not for me. However, my tattoo artist always cracks jokes when he sees me about when I'm going to let him ink me with a massive Twilight tat. I don't find it funny, however him and his cronies do.

  10. My two favorite things in one post! Twilight and tattoos!

I'm the proud owner of two tattoos (got them before I even decided to pierce my ears) and will have many more to come.

I have a few friends that are tattoo artists and they always talk about women getting Twilight themed tattoos. The guys that I know, mess them up a little on purpose..unless they are friends with that person.

  11. I don't have any tatts and now I must say I'm afraid to get one.

@TK - One little needle stab compared to hours of painful labor????? No way. My childbirth plan was keep the meds coming until I say stop!

After seeing your beautiful pics on another post, I could just cry if you choose to ink up your flawless skin/body.

As for the samples shown, I'm speechless. If they are happy, I guess that's all that matters.......but I have to say WTF??????

  12. I work on whale watching boats and tomorrow all I'm going to be able to think of is "as if you could outrun me Flipper" when we see dolphins. maybe i'll say something along those lines over the mic to see if there are any twitards onboard...

    epic post!

  13. Some times you really wish you could unsee things... please pass the eye bleach!

I could never get a tatt because I'm a habitual returner. I buy something get buyers remorse and... yep return it. A tatt is too permanent for me, I'll stick with rub on tatts.

  14. I have one tattoo its a tiger cub done in blacks and greys on my left shoulder, it took me 10 years to figure out what I wanted. I want more and have finally decided what they will be. I may work some subtle twi theme into my next one, but nothing so obvious. Some of those are bloody scary!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I have no tattoos but would love to get one, I even have it designed. It is a quote from twilight, "more than my own life" translated to arabic, cuz of my hubs genetic make-up & it reminds me of the boy.

Just showed hubs the pic of the tat on, what I assume, was once a normal human leg and he literally gagged. LMFAO. Another epic post TK!

  16. still looking for my vampFebruary 2, 2011 at 12:21 AM

I have one tattoo on my butt that I received on the evening I graduated from college. In a drunken debauchery, three of my guy friends and me went to get tattoos. I went first. They watched me get mine done and decided they didn't have the sparkly balls to do it. Pussies.

Mine is a darling little devil with a pitchfork and a big shit eating grin. On the odd time I do turn to look at my ass, I love the little guy.

My 19 year old niece recently visited. Across her stomach: Look after my heart — I’ve left it with you. Personally, in another 50 years I bet she regrets that one, and possibly the one of a fist with brass knuckles protruding out of her shoulder.

Those tattoos are awful. I would be saving up for laser removal and skin bleaching if those touched my skin.

    ReplyDelete
  17. AGH! They're like a train wreck. It's horrifying but you just can't. look. away. The champ in my book? The massive thigh tat. One question: why is Edward a poorly aged 50y/o with an overstretched facelift and bad spray-on tan?

Then I think, if this woman lost a whole lot of weight Edward may be permanently between her legs and inducted into Twitarded as an epic WIN. hello! Permanent Edward Panties! (just forget his look)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Those tattoos are absolutely terrible! I had always wanted one but could never decide what to get. Luckily Heaven Can Wait animal shelter was raising money. The deal was you donate $30 and you get a paw print tattoo (my mom's response to my ankle tattoo "you couldn't have just given them the money?") It actually wasn't too painful. There are some great pics of me making faces though. I swore it would be my only tattoo but now I am considering getting something else...not sure what yet but almost 100% it will not be Twilight related

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have 13 tats, most of them small, none Twi-related.

  20. I just had to run and grab a bowl because I think I am going to be sick...good gawd.

I am planning my first tattoo and it is not Twi-related whatsoever. If I ever get anything Twi related it would be so fucking subtle even I wouldn't be able to figure it out.

The one on the leg....really? **shifts to bowl**

@Dangrdafne--you are so lovely and kind. xo

  25. TexasKatherine you are my god damn hero. You always make me laugh. The dolphin quote had me going every time I read it. It's funny on so many levels. I mean, god damn. You quoted both Twilight and the theme song to Flipper in one quote.

I got my first tattoo in high school and have a couple more that followed. They are all pretty subtle and in no way related to any of my passing fancies. Wait. My first one was my boyfriend's name. Scratch that. I think Twilight would've been more appropriate.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm sure I'm showing my age when I say that I'm not a huge tattoo fan. At all. I put off reading CW&IA for months for that reason, but was ultimately glad I overcame. (The story far surpasses the ink.)

Tatts are not in my future and most of these shining examples cement that decision. I used to lie awake at night wishing I had the technical knowledge to develop a state-of-the-art tattoo removal laser. Last I read, regret rate is over 60%. Think. Carefully.

PS - Why is Willem Defoe on that woman's leg and what is he so pissed off about? Never mind. Kind of answered my own question. Ick.

  28. Oh dear :-( Call me old-fashioned, but I can't find anything right with those tatts :-(

I've never wanted a tatt. I have, however, wanted a piercing (in addition to the 2 I have in each ear). Thank Gawd my hubs convinced me otherwise, or I'd be sporting a tongue-piercing now (and somehow, that just doesn't feel right any more).

I know lots of women who have tatts, most of which are subtle and hidden - just the way I think they should be. But if you're sporting something a little more out there I won't judge you. It's your body, after all.

The examples above, however, confirm my feelings. They're just wrong.

There, I've said it. Out loud. *snigger*

  29. "Psst. Your lack of taste is showing."
Yep, that just about sums up this entire post. WTF were they thinking?! I've wanted a tatt for years, but it's something I'm still thinking about veeeeery carefully. Mostly because I don't want my picture to end up on Fail blog.

One thing I would NEVER have done is a portrait. They never look right. I'll also probably never get a Twilight tattoo. I want a vine of forget-me-nots on my right foot, and maybe extended up my leg a bit.

@Jael: A dark mark tattoo would be pretty awesome...

  30. I am continually shocked at what people will do. Maybe it's because I'm a more closeted twitard than these people, but I think my husband would divorce me if my kids didn't laugh themselves silly first.

I've contemplated a tattoo and can just never decide what I would want to have forever. My dh's initials? Nope...they are the same as my FIL's. Anything cute and cartoony...can't cause hunterhuntings Edward talked too much shit about the hello kitty tattoo. Plus I'm old(er) and maybe it's just not meant to be.

At least I didn't do this one:

  31. I have 6 tattoos and, while I may have wished I thought about the placement of one or two of them a little more, I definitely don't regret any of them.

That's because I thought long and hard about what I was going to get and I would never get a Twilight tattoo. I think back to all those times I was thisclose to getting a band logo tattoo because I thought the band was the best thing since sliced bread. Two years later? Not so much.

  33. Although my marraige vows do not allow me to get naked in front of anyone not sporting an MD or OB/GYN after his name, I can only surmise that a Twilight-related tattoo would could seriously impact the quality of a potential suitor's hard-on. (Come on, I am allowed to fantasize about potential suitors, no?)
Picture the scene: things are getting hot and heavy, the juices are flowing and clothes are being shed. And then... Cockblocked By Twilight! Not too many doods are going sustain the bloodflow necessary to rock my world if a pair of movie star vampire eyes are staring back at him as he attempts to locate my g-spot.
    Twilight tattoos: just say no!

  34. I would never...ever get a twilight tattoo. I've been a Jane Austen fan for much longer than a twi-geek and you don't see me with Mr. Darcy on my back...so yea it's just not even a thought...and those barf. Getting a twi tatt would make me be associated with the level of crazy on display there.

Anyway, I *do* however want a tattoo, I've been thinking about it for a long time. I've changed my mind about one of the things I wanted. Now I know for sure what I do want...I am almost 90% certain where I want it placed as well but it's going to be a reward for when I lose more weight. No tatt on the back fat allowed.

  35. Previous tattoo shop-girl, helping people turn worse decisions into simply poor decisions, I would like to start a regret jar for these ladies, except for the last one, 'cause she can cover that shit up pretty easily.

The full color Eddie Munster/Elijah Wood was, ummm, just terrible. The Twilight eyes could be a tasteful tattoo since only a Twilight fan would know it...does Forks have a tat shop? If they did, they'd roll in gold all summer.

  36. I agree with @suzspetals, I am of a certain age and wouldn't get tatooed either. The colors always look wonky to me. Reading Clipped Wings and Inked Armor made me go on an internet TwiTat viewing expedition. I've seen some TwiTats that are beautiful and express a kind of universal expression of love...the ones on this post obviously don't meet that standard. Good God, whiskey tango foxtrot indeed. Not all tatoo artists are capable of doing faces. Having to live with a badly deformed precious on your body forever is just wrong. Show some respect.

  37. I am fairly consertive & have never wanted one until I had a child. I would like to get one to represent my son, but can't think of a non-weird way to do that.
His name on me??? He would HATE that when he is older. Foot print...those look odd...can't come up with anything else.
I have seen TOO many portrait tatts turn out hideous. So I would NEVER do that. So, I remain tattooless. xxxooo

  38. It was TW that actually made me want a first tatt. I tend to like prose, and I liked a quote that Carlisle had in the book. It was a long quote, and I wanted it on my ankle. That was 2 years ago. I still want a tat, but not that one. I'm down to a Bible Verse, and a Ghandi saying. Not sure which one. Will probably know in 2 more years. :D

  39. I am a fan tattoos. Good tattoos.(Hot men with yummy tatts get me all kinds of excited.) I have 3. I always give myself a year to think about it before I committ to the idea and I don't regret one. One of them is a purple cupcake that I actually made & photographed. I know that sounds lame & corny, but after 2 years I still love it. If I ever get a Twilight inspired tattoo, it will be subtle enough that only a twitard would get the reference. The tattoos shown above show more incompetency of the tattoo artists than that of the poor souls who now have to permanently wear those abominations. First thing is to always find a qualified artist!

  40. *shiver* Those were some of the worst images I think I have EVER seen - WTF are people thinking?!?! I have loved a lot of things in my life as much or more than Twilight and I never got any of THOSE tattooed on my body (ok, so I did get Garth Brooks airbrushed on the back of a leather jacket but I was 17 so bite me ok?)

I have one tattoo and would like more but not sure what I want to committ to yet - I'm pretty sure it's going to be a tasteful anklet that has my kids names as the chain with something intertwining them together but not sure what yet. I don't regret the one I have or where it is and designed it myself. Like you TK - I am deathly afraid of needles and will lie to a doctor to avoid getting any sort of immunization but tat needles are nothing like the ones that pierce your flesh and muscle.

  41. Well...I'd rather get another tattoo than sqeeze a watermelon sized person through my vagina. So you are not a pussy! When I got mine it didn't hurt that bad and honestly the guns they use don't even resemble needles. I think you would do okay.

Okay...These people in the pics are ridiculous! I swear some people just don't care that when they are 80 & wrinkly they're going to a stupid ass, ugly, stretched out tattoo. Definatley something a person should think about seriously and for at least 6 months before just walking in & saying here's what I want on my body for the rest of my life! I have wanted to get a second tattoo for about 5 years now & I think I finally have something picked out. :-)

Girlfriend with the monster thighs..what can I say? Don't tattoo artists have standards? Guess not.

The girl with that f'd up portrait of Edward's face on her back? She better have a slamming body and a pussy with a cape hanging out cuz I can't imagine sone dude keeping it stiff while doing doggy-style and having Edward glaring at him. Can't even imagine. My most resent one is related to Twilight in a six-degrees-of-seperation sor of way. Twilight lead to fanfiction, fanfiction lead to me writing, wriing lead to me openiNg the box that I had stuffed my real self into so effing long. Is this suppose to show devotion? At least make it more than laughable with something remotely justifiable.. "FUCK ME ROB" would've been a more understandable and "needs to be committed to idiot bandcamp" choice. Why must the unbearable attempt at the drawing of their faces even be considered by these TERRIBLE NON-artist fuckwads? Really? No,REALLY? I love my tattoo. Every fucking day. I have two ladybugs above my right ankle (Lysander and Ricardo *so I know which one is on the right, and which is on the left, natch.), and I am itching like a leper to get my second one done. I promised The Bentist that I would wait until after the wedding.

I'm planning on getting a peacock feather fountain pen on my left foot. I would only consider ONE Twi-related tattoo, and I've already thought of ways to sneak it in. I am heavily considering getting a fork tattoo. That way I can make up some crazy story someday or just man up and tell the awesome truth. Judge on, bitches. Judge.On.

  53. I have 7 tattoos and one of them is a Twilight tattoo. Thankfully, I didn't get anyones face tattooed on my body. I got the quote "Without the dark, we'd never see the stars". I actually got it about 4ish years ago before Twilight got super huge and popular (kind of odd to say) It's on my calf and goes from my ankle up to my knee. It's all swirly and colorful with stars in it. I'm sure I'll end up sending it to our Twitarded girls :)

  54. I laughed so hard, I scared the bejeezus out of my cat and I think I peed myself...just a bit. I love tattoos and I have several of them. I'm all for decorating the human body...but tastefully, people! Not in a manner that scares children and the elderly. I abhor tattoos of someone's face. Your face belongs on, well, your face. Not your thigh! Its. just. plain. creepy. And quote tattoos? I don't want to "read" your body. Not a fan.

I am a fan, however, of Lord of the Rings and one of my tattoos is Lord of the Rings "themed", but very subtly. I have the elven-broach leaf as leaves on a vine that go across my foot and around my ankle. If you were not a Lord of the Rings fan and didn't know what to look for, you'd think it was just a vine. Tasteful, subtle and something I'm not going to regret later in life.

At least some good came out of those gawd-awful tattoos, we all got a good laugh. Thanks TK!

The whole needle thing put me off for years but I decided I needed to suck it up and do it. Best decision of my life. It doesn't hurt too much, just kind of a burn. And before people say oh your crazy, it hurts like hell, my first tattoo is 7 inches by 4 inches on my rib cage, I almost fell asleep. Its a wonderful feeling and gives you such a rush.

With that being said, my friend just got her first tattoo on Tuesday and its a beautiful antique key with the words be safe beside it in Edwards handwriting. It looks very nice, and tasteful.

@Dangrdafne--you are so lovely and kind. xo

  62. I work on whale watching boats and tomorrow all I'm going to be able to think of is "as if you could outrun me Flipper" when we see dolphins. maybe i'll say something along those lines over the mic to see if there are any twitards onboard...

    epic post!
