Robert Pattinson in THE Band Movie???

The precious has been a very, VERY busy lad these days. Or years. Bel Ami has come out to some rave (and not-so-rave) reviews, and Cosmopolis is apparently causing quite the stir. And lets not forget the smooching in Cannes.

That is a man serious about his career. And holy baby Jesus is he hot.

But when I stumbled across this article during one of my many interweb-RPattz-searches, I have to admit -- I gave a little yelp.

(From the Article) Twilight star Robert Pattinson has signed on to appear in an upcoming film project about rock legends The Band.

The Band. Which one would RPattz play???

Ummm, FUCK YES. For those of you who don't know, The Band was a really talented and influential rock group in the sixties and they spent some of their time touring with Bob Dylan (among many other things). I can almost guarantee you've heard something by them but I strongly recommend you check them out anyway.

(RIP Levon Helms (the drummer) who passed away in April this year):

I'm excited for this because a) it's going to be a movie about The Band and b) I'd like to see Robert Pattinson play in it because it's awesome to see him broaden his acting horizons and (despite my initial reservations) I don't think he's a terrible musical artist.

There isn't much buzz about this movie (either that or I'm too dumb and/or lazy to find it) but based on this little blurb, Robert Pattinson sounds pretty stoked to be a part of it.

And, obviously, so am I.

P.S. - If anyone has any more information regarding this movie, let us know!

  1. I don't know how I feel about this. Who would he play? I've seen the last waltz many times as well as tons and tons of rock documentaries and biographies. Sometimes when they make these kinds of movies they can be embarrassingly laughable so I'm a little nervous. Think Eddie and the Cruisers only based on real people. Or the awful Bach Boys movie they show on VH1. It's scary.

    1. I watched one that was so embarrassing I can't even remember which band it was, though I think it might have been the Beach Boys one!! LOL!

  4. I don't know. What did you think of The Runaways? Was that hokey? I didn't think so. Maybe this will turn out OK.

And, JSYK, I did not like anything about Snow White & the Huntsman - other than Queen Ravena. I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm a KStew fan. Thor/Huntsman was so dirty - ick! Just had to say no. As long as the boy's musician character doesn't look like he never bathes, I'm in.

    1. I thought The Runaways was good but I also had a very low expectation going into it. REgardless, it was definitely entertaining!!

I have been knee-bouncing-ly anxious to hear more about this. I'm kind of worried that he has so many "projects" coming up that this one could easily be dropped. Love The Band. Love Rob. If this thing happens and is of any kind of quality, it will be like Christmas for me! Why do all the fucking interviewers out there ask the same dumbest questions ever?!! Why aren't they asking him more about The Band movie?!!! Idiots!

  6. Who cares if it's good? 10 to 1 he'll have a beard. Simply majestic.

  7. ZOMG, when I saw this, I fucking FLIPPED. The Band is one of my favorite bands of all time!! I was so sad when I heard Levon Helm died :(, even more sad when I tried to talk about it with friends and they had no idea who he was (ok, I guess that's understandable with 20/30-somethings), OR who The Band was (totally despicable). The Last Waltz?! It's AWESOME!

If this goes through, and the movie is actually made, I am going to squee my pants with Rob in it. For fuck sake....I am STOKED. The music, the era, the poetry? I'm in.

  8. The Band is a great group. The drummer just passed away I believe. Maybe thats why their making a movie about them? I think Rob will do a great job. He's a good musician and a decent singer, but personally I think he signed on for the Jesus beards. Men in the 70's were hairy fuckers, and we all know how much Rob likes his beard. Gross!!!!

  9. Can't find anything at all on this. I love The Band, though. When I was a kid, I had a hearing device, and my mom would have me listen to music to get my tone back. One of the records I listened to had "The Weight" on it. I don't remember all of the other songs, but I loved that one. It's on my i-pod now. I think this response dates me. ;)

  10. Have loved The Band forever (so sad to lose Levon Helm), and of course I love Rob, so am really psyched for this. I am guessing that Rob might play Robbie Robertson who was a hottie in his day. Look forward to Rob playing some music! Rob has a lot of projects lined up. Who knows when they'll get to this one. Can't wait; I hope they do it justice!

  11. I like all the different types of movies Rob & Kristen are doing. They are trying to stretch their wings & become better actors. I'm excited to see this one too!

  12. Hmmm Seems Cronenberg is going to direct it and it will be shot in the US, no date is set. I found this tid bit here: http://www.nme.com/filmandtv/news/robert-pattinson-reveals-cronenberg-reunion-and-the/269511

This site is speculating that he will play Rick Danko.

    Sounds interesting.... Can't wait!!!

  13. This just made me INCREDIBLY happy!! LOVE LOVE LOVE the Band. I was so sad when Levon Helm died :( I can totally picture Rob in this. There's just something totally hot when guys play instruments. Not going to lie, that was one of the things that drew me to my husband :) Can't wait to hear more about this!!

  14. Are they looking for extras to play the skin flute? I happen to have a head shot, if needed.

  15. Cronenberg is supposed to direct Map to the Stars, not The Band biopic, according to this site: http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplaylist/exclusive-david-cronenberg-talks-maps-to-the-stars-hopes-viggo-mortensen-will-join-robert-pattinson-in-cast-20120529.
And Viggo and Rob, hooray! More to look forward to :)

  16. Thanks for finding this!! IMHO It could be good for Rob's career and development as an actor by giving him a chance to play out of the solitary spotlight and in an ensemble--ie without the whole weight on his shoulders--but without losing face as a has-been moving down a peg. Because it is a cool topic. And he could perform and blow away skeptics.

I am so old that I went on a date in 1974 to see Dylan and (his former backing band) The Band, and was even alive and kicking enough to buy Music from Big Pink when it first came out circa 1968. But I agree with everyone above who said biopics do mostly suck, big time.

But it's good to know Rob has projects in the pipeline. IMDb is showing nothing beyond "Breaking Dawn II (post-production.)

    1. I would have liked to have seen Dylan and The Band. I'm jealous. And I agree that this could be a really great opportunity for his career.

  17. It's only fitting that Bob Dylan and The Band came up on my iPod shuffle as I was reading these comments. :)

  18. He has the beard growing skillz.

Ah, the Band. Now we're talking about MY generation. I wasn't a huge fan, but Music From Big Pink is an awesome album. The Weight - brilliant! It was one of those "must have" albums that you later bought the CD of.

And they did This Wheel's on Fire - the theme song to one of the awesomest comedies of all time - AbFab.

  19. I am way too excited. Please let this be. Beardy, singy, bell bottom Rob. Yes please. If this doesn't happen I am going to be super sad. The Band was awesome.

  20. The best part of Rob being in this, if indeed it happens, is all the people that will then learn about The Band because they will go to see Rob in the movie.

  21. Huge fan of The Band and part of me is glad to see a movie in the works, but also skeptical that this is a Robbie Robertson production. He WAS the guitarist and, yes, lyricist but instead of just quitting The Band, he orchestrated the end of it and made a movie of it (the last waltz). He refused to share any songwriting credits, watched his former band mates struggle, bought them out of The Band and stood by as each one died practically penniless. Now (with the exception of Garth Hudson)they are all gone and Robbie is going to sell HIS story one more time. Rick Danko will be portrayed as a dumb farmboy, Levon will be an angry redneck and Richard Manual will be a dark, depressed drunk. Robbie (played, no doubt, by patterson) will be the genius maestro. None of these generalizations are true and Robbie's non-existent career compared to Levon's post The Band grammy winning career supports my concerns. If a movie is produced, study the credits hard for Robbie's name, if he's dumb enough to use his real name that is.
