I Hope They Show Twilight in Heaven.

This is a sad post - if you're coming for a quick laugh or pick-me up (which I hope we provide most days...), you might want to check back in tomorrow.

As many of you know, Comic-Con starts now-ish and those folks who made the pilgrimage to San Diego to see the Twilighty Holy Trinity have already started lining up to enter the Inner Sanctum (also know as "Hall H"). I have never attended, but I like to experience it vicariously so I was peripherally following along on Twitter to see how things were progressing. And then I read something terrible had happened: a Twilight fan had been struck and killed by a car while crossing the street to the convention center to line up.

Her name was Gisela Gagliardi and she went by TwiFanG or @mad4hugh on Twitter. I didn't know this woman, but on some level, I feel like I did - she could have been any one of us, out there visiting from New York, living her dream, meeting up with friends and actors who almost seem like friends at this point, getting front-row seats to this beginning of the end of The Twilight Saga. It breaks my heart that a life was cut short like this...tragic.

At center, loving life.

A Twitter friend - @theswandive - has set up a memorial page here, if you would like to take a moment to send some words of support or make a  donation. Thanks as always for being the best online community in the world - I can't agree more with the "#FandomIsFamily" tweets I have seen today. If I could, I'd give each and every one of you an uncomfortably tight and long hug right now.

  1. So sad. It is strange how most of us across the world feel a bond that stretches over continents and oceans. I never met this lady and I probably never would have, but I want to send my heart felt condolences to her family anyway, because I feel I understood her on some level.

This fandom Fundraiser for Giselas family is a great way to say the Twi-family cares.

    1. I feel the same way - I've seen so many strong bonds formed in this fandom that it's irrelevant that I didn't know this particular person - it still hits close to home.

  2. Hey, thanks for making a point of saying this. Life blows by us so fast.

It's good to stop and remember that we're all just people.

    Long hug back at ya.

  3. I just read an account at Cullen Boys Anonymous that she actually fell and hit her head after seeing an oncoming car, so sorry if I spoke too soon on the details. I just felt the need to say something, but I shouldn't have assumed.

Regardless, this makes me so sad - it just goes to show you that you just never know - we have all been there, caught up in some random moment and you never expect tragedy will strike like this...

  4. We express ourselves is many different ways, from midnight movie openings, to stalking movie sets, to camping out for Premiers or Comic-Cons, or going to Forks, or just reading/writing FanFiction. Whatever. We all have a special bond because we get each other. It's as simple as that. We get each other.

  5. This is truly, truly awful. So random & so tragic. I can't even wrap my tiny brain around it. I'll definitely keep her friends & family in my prayers.

  6. I saw this on Facebook yesterday through Jackson Rathbone who was expressing his condolences. So sad, my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. It's just awful to think about but thanks for the link. I know "outsiders" think we're just a bunch of ridiculous people but it's nice to know we'll all band together to help out one of our own like the decent people we keep buried deep down inside.

I love you all like you are the sisters I have always wanted. I am always blown away by the love this fandom has. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for starting a blog and introducing me to the most amazing women in the world.

    Much Love,

  8. This saddens me to no end. I didn't know this woman but when I heard that a Twilight fan had been killed at Comic Con, my heart and stomach immediately fell into my feet. There are so many of you that I love dearly out in SD for this event and it just makes me sick. Be safe friends... be safe.

    xoxo

  9. This is such a sad accident. What a shame.

And I'm always blown away by the kindness and generosity of this fandom.

    Be safe, all.

  10. I was lucky enough to have met her in Las Vegas at the TwiFic MeetUp. I will treasure the small amount of time I had with her and I do try every day to not take my life for granted.
