A Sad Day in Forks...

Well, Twitards... lower your Team Edward flag to half staff. I have some sad news.

If you made the trek to Forks with the Twitarded crew the first year in 2010, you probably spent a ridiculous amount of time and money in Dazzled by Twilight. I know I did... If you made the trek in 2011, you might have tried to shop here but it may have been closed. It didn't keep the most regular hours last fall. And if you were lucky enough to get out to Forks for a third time this fall, you saw that the store was no longer in operation...it closed earlier this year. *sniffle sniffle*

Blue sky? In Forks?

It's too bad the folks that originally opened Dazzled by Twilight (and were so helpful and welcoming to our group that first trip) couldn't keep it running as a successful business. I guess that's what happens to a town whose tourist industry is fueled primarily by a movie franchise. Nothing gold can stay...

Even sadder news came out of the tiny town of Forks, WA yesterday morning. The building that housed the Dazzled by Twilight caught fire early Monday morning causing irreparable damage to the structure. When firefighters arrived on scene at 4am, they knew the building, built in 1925, could not be saved. The fire started in the three story building next to the store and then quickly spread to the vacant business after an explosion -- most likely a propane tank. Thankfully, no one was hurt. *sob sob*

Since I didn't make it to Forks this fall, I wonder if there was still loads of Twilight merchandise in the now bank-owned Dazzled by Twilight? Did no firefighter risk their life to rescue the poor innocent full-sized Edwards and full-sized Jacobs and full-sized Bellas? Did a family of cardboard standees perish in the flames? I shudder to think of the army of Edwards shriveling in the intense heat. *wails wails*

We all spent some quality time with a few of those standees. So you can imagine the pain runs deep. Farewell... FSE and FSJ.

Like I wasn't already sad enough with the final movie hitting theaters in just a few short weeks. And now this. *sigh* Can't things just go back to the way they were?

  1. Awwww damn. I was in Forks this past spring and was saddened when the store wasn't open. I spent my money across the street at Native to Twilight instead. Thanks for posting about the fire. Hope everyone is okay in the post Sandy recovery.

  4. Myself, Forkspimp, Lindsay Rae and a handful of other twitards are heading that way in a few weeks. We'll be in Port Angeles for BD2 opening night. (squeeee!!). The next day we'll be on a pilgrimage to Foooorks. I was so saddened to hear about Dazzled By Twilight. Such a shame.

  5. I ordered some stuff from them online last November, and had to get American Express to refund me when Dazzled did not rewspond to emails, etc. So it was clear something was wrong.

HOWEVER -- TWILIGHT IS ALIVE AND WELL IN OREGON, ladies.
Spottysmom and I just got back fron the most amazing tour by ourselves of all the filming sites of the original Twilight movie--from the Kalama High School parking lot to the burned View Point (prom) Inn on the Columbia River Gorge, to the rain forest sites for lion and lamb and, in another park, “I know what you are”, to St. Helens, west of Portland, which is where Bella's house, the famous alley, the Bloated Toad and lots of other main locations were. We went to Vernonia, which played Forks in the movie and spent the last afternoon at Indian Beach on the Pacific Coast, aka La Push.
Sad about Forks, to which I bow. but you see the real places and you know it will never be over. It blew our tiny twitarded minds.

  6. So happy to see a new Twitarded post! So sad about the fire and "Dazzled" going out of business. I loved that they were as crazy about Twilight as we were.

  7. I saw this via My After Car and I was so sad! I am going to be in Forks/Port Angeles for the BD2 premier with Toey, Pimpy, Billi Cullen, Pixie Kat and two other amazing friends who were with us last year. We were looking forward to the possibility of a last shot restocking effort to do our bit to boost the economy. No dice...Just ashes.

It's so sad....But I'm so glad we have such kick ass memories!

  8. Dude we were just there & there were quite a few Cardboard people in there still. Just randomly tossed around in the store. That fake tree was in there still too.
:-(. So sad. Even though all of his is coming to an end I'll still be going there in the summers. I love La Push.

  9. So sad. At least two cardboard characters perished: Carlisle and Caius, who were in the window when we were there. I feel like this is the symbolic end of Twilight's reign in Forks and that, along with many other things this month, makes my heart hurt.

  10. I never got to travel to Forks with you girls, but Twitarded and it's ever growing family has been a big part of my last decade. I remember the first blog I ever read by JJ, about The mysteries of Edwards Love Custard. Lol! Immediately I knew I had found my "people". Though Twilight is coming to an end I'll always have a special love for you girls. No other series has brought people together the way Twilight has.

All I can say is thank goodness for Blogwaffles!!!!

  12. I traveled to Forks by myself over the summer and Dazzled By Twilight was already closed. I can't believe it burned down, though, that seriously sucks. I met a woman working in a shop in Forks that sells recreations of the clothes worn in the movies and she told me she met all you sassy twitards. I was so happy. I had such a great time, even by myself.
