The Hunger Games - It's Almost Here!!!

Yesterday, Texas Katherine wrote about a slew of movies she's looking forward to seeing in 2012. Abe Lincoln and zombies? Yes, please. The Hobbit? holyfuckingshit YES!!

I couldn't help notice that there were a few movies that seemed to have been left off her list. Not that we can blame her, really. I mean, she has little people whose lives depend on her actually paying attention to them and doing things to keep them fed and clean and shit. Me, on the other hand, well, I think the most important thing I've done today is beat the pants off Brother Jerkface four times in a row on Scramble with Friends.

Oh, and read The Hunger Games trilogy for the eighth time. Sound familiar?

I am stupidly excited for this movie to come out and it's almost here!! We have just a little over a month to wait until we see Katniss fight for survival on the silver screen, with Peeta being kinda of useless and lovesick by her side.

It's like the opposite of Twilight, if you think about it. Or, not at all. To be honest, I'm so hungry I can't think straight. It's like I was from District 12 or something.

Fuck that, I would never survive in District 12. I'd be one of those freaks in the Capitol with shocking pink hair and whiskers. I'm so ashamed.

Anyway, a few weeks ago I came across a second trailer for The Hunger Games, almost crapped myself in excitement and watched it twenty times in a row, until my boss finally came over to my cube where me and my equally obsessed coworker were hunched over, watching it on repeat, and wanted to know what the fuck we were doing.

Losers. Good thing they don't read this blog. Or know about it.

Did I mention that this movie is going to be good? Scratch that, it better be motherfucking awesome. Or else.

In all seriousness, I truly hope they do a great job with this and so far it's looking like they did. I love Jennifer Lawrence and think she'll make a great Katniss. Even Lenny Kravitz as Cinna has grown on me. A lot.

I even think what's-his-face as Peeta might muddle through.

Soon, my friends. It'll be here soon. And may the odds be ever in your favor. Because they clearly weren't in Katniss Everdeen's case. Just sayin'...

So, who is as excited as I am to see this movie? Anyone going to the midnight show? Spill your love (or hate) in the comments!!

  1. I'm not sure I'll spring for a midnight show, but I REALLY want to see this one. The books were great and it looks like this group might actually do a good job at translating this one.

  2. I plan to be there at midnight! I can't wait!

I'm with you - the Lenny Kravitz thing REALLY pissed me off at first, but the trailers have made him seem okay.

And I love that the movie series is a timely and good diversion from the end of Twilight :(

  3. Oh thanks! This trailer is new to me. I haven't bought tickets for the midnight show. Yet. I probably will try to at the last minute, and be pissed if it is sold out!

I resisted reading these books, but I'm so glad I finally did. I am really anticipating this - way more than Twilight even. (I only read Twilight two days before the midnight showing of the movie! Lucky for me my gay co-worker dragged me to the midnight show to see the fine eye candy that was - and still is = RPatz. Thank you Jesus!)

  4. WTF?? Why does it say my comment was posted at 8:31 PM? The original post didn't happen until 10:11 PM, and I'm in the same time zone as you? What's up with that?

  6. Firstly: TEAM GALE FOR THE MOTHERFUCKING WIN. FOREVS.

Secondly: Scramble with friends? I'm ALL about the WWF right now. Do I really need another addiction? Anyhoo... find me on WWF. Cos I really need to be playing even MORE games on there than I am already.

    1. DO IT!!! It's absurdly addicting. And possibly costly. My family and I are so competitive that they take my whole board. Bastards. And I wonder why I'm an asshole.

  7. Wait, you have a brother??

Iamsofreakimgexcitedforthismovieeeeeeeeeeek!!! I'm not going to the midnight showing - that's reserved for Twilight movies (and one Harry Potter that I dragged Mr. XKR to, where they played a Twi preview - think it was NM - and the scores of adults sporting bathrobes and lightning shaped scars drawn with eyeliner and wielding sticks scoffed at the trailer while I nearly bounced out of my seat and ripped hubs' arm off in excitement). I too have adjusted to LK as Cinna, but I'm still pretty upset about whatshisname as Haymitch. He's my second favorite character (after the boy with the bread <3<3) and I'm still mad that they didn't cast Phillip Seymour Hoffman.

Annnnnyway, yes, I'm excited for this movie! They better not eff it up. Summit is too close for comfort to yet another beloved series now. Dislike.

    1. Yes, I have a brother. He's three years older than I am. We are... very different, I guess. I'd say more but he reads the blog on occasion.

I really think Woody what's-his-name will make a good Haymitch. PSH is just a little too soft for that role.

  8. To be sincere I like the first book, not dislike the second and was bored with the third. But I will watch the movie not the first week but before it's out of theaters.

BTW Didn't the mayor's daugther give the mockingjay's pin to Katnis?

  9. I can not wait for this! I remember telling my hubby about this book I had been reading while we were sitting at our local bar. I was so excited for this trilogy and told him if there were ever a book I wanted turned into a movie, it was this. Even he agreed that it sounded pretty amazing of a story. Fast forward a couple years and it's here!!!! and of course I'm pregnant and my due date is April 2. I keep threatening my lil one to not come early. Or mommy will ground him til he is 30. It's not like I can pop out the kid and then shoot on over to the movies. So keep your fingers crossed that lil Dexter listens to mommy and waits til he is supposed to.

  10. I am insanely excited for this movie!! Seriously contemplating a midnight showing. Plus they are supposed to show the trailer for BD 2 during the previews.

  11. Tried to avoid getting sucked into the series. My bro bought me the first one for Christmas this year. Started reading it and immediately knew that I needed the other books before my trip to Cuba. (While I was reading them, the food sucked and being in a communist country I started going delusional and imagining myself in the books. haha)

Anyway, my friends are no fun and don't want to do the Midnight Screening. However we did just buy tickets for the Friday 9:50pm show at the VIP theatre in our area. 19+ (no shitty kids) and booze available. It's gonna be good times.

But I'll probably also try to sneak off to a midnight showing. And maybe try to hit up (outside) the Toronto premiere, if any details are released.

  12. I am sooooo pumped!! I don't mind he casting at all for this movie. The movie I am most pissed about is 'The Host'. Horrible casting. Only the main character is okay. UGH!

  13. JMFHFBBQ I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS!!!

The casting might not be perfect for everyone and clearly (just based on the available clips) they have made some changes from exactly how things read in the book, but it's GOT to be better than some movie adaptations out there... ; )

  14. I think the casting will grow on me. In actuality, I'm sure they could not afford the people they had in mind. Robert Downey Jr. will always be Haymitch in my mind. But Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland are quite essentially, perfect! And JJ, you saw Winter's Bone (How good was that movie?). I think Jennifer Lawrence can play the part, a girl who must do what it takes to protect her family.

And yes, I'll be at the Midnight showing BITCHES!! OMG, just thinking about it is making me squeel! Btw, my daughter and I have already concluded we would have totally died in the Hunger Games. We can't even run in place for one minute without getting bored. God, I would need my iPod to survive in HG, geez!

And after we all see it, you need to start a discussion post on our thoughts. Let the games begin!!

  15. I was wondering why it wasn't on her list! I am looking forward to this movie more than I am looking forward to Breaking Dawn 2! *ducks away from crap thrown at her in anger*. Sorry! But its true!

  16. I am beyond excited for the hunger games movie. I love the casting, especially Jennifer Lawrence. I'm strongly excited to see how Woody Harrelson does as Haymitch. I love Haymitches character and hope he does the alcoholic justice.

  17. I am SUPER excited about this movie! I camped out to buy tickets yesterday (our movie theater has reserved seating and my OCD ass always has to sit in the same spot!) I have nine tickets in my pocket and the odds are in my favor that I will LOVE this film!

  18. I know. I think I'm more excited for this than I was for Twilight!

  19. Party pooper alert. The first book was alright, unique for sure. The second and third quickly got worse and worse. After being reminded 600,000 times that her father died in a mine, and that she was awesome with a bow and arrow, it got old quick. I am excited to see this movie, but as for the second and third, not so much. The cast looks really great so that always helps. I don't know if everyone here has read all the books, so I will just say THAT ONE PART...in the third book....I seriously threw my kindle across the room and didn't finish reading it for three days. Anyway, enough of this. I will see the movie, and I will probably like it. Maybe.

  20. I CANNOT wait for this movie. I just re-read the book in all of its awesomeness.
And YES - I hated the 3rd book!!!
