Me + Robert Pattinson. In a Room. It's ON.

Unlike many devoted Twitards out there, I have never actually had the good fortune to find myself in the presence of The Precious. And of course by "good fortune" I mean I have never camped out on a sidewalk for days in order  to possibly have the chance to get up-close and personal with Mr. Rumored-to-Smell-Like-Citrus-and-Tweed. I've never set-stalked him, I've never squealed at him at ComicCon, I've never gazed at him from a steel pen alongside a red carpet while waving a suggestive sign or a blow-up doll elephant.

HFS STY was almost here?! I hope someone notified Bodyguard Dean!

All that is about to change!

I was at work a month ago-ish when I happened to pick the perfect moment to do what I do best while at work, which is distracting myself from anything work related by dicking around on Twitter. And there it was, my golden ticket to get aboard the Pattintrain: Robert Pattinson (along with David Cronenberg) would be doing a "TimesTalks" on August 15th, which is basically a moderated conversation with interesting people hosted by the New York Times. And I say "basically" because while I have been aware of the existence of said Talks, I never paid them much mind because they never allowed for the possibility of Robert Pattinson and me sharing the same physical space.

So they will be wearing tuxedos right?
Because this has been my wallpaper since whenever Cannes was...
Plus I hear he may have started smoking again and I want to help with his...oral fixation.

Given all that has transpired recently, I was afraid this whole thing would be cancelled. I've heard rumors that he's been cancelling some of the press he was scheduled to do to promote the U.S. release of Cosmopolis. I freaked out a little when I got an update last week, thinking it was the "We are refunding your money" and/or "Only David Cronenberg will be attending" (not that I don't respect him buuuut....). Thankfully, it only pretty much let me know two things: they are on to his audience AND he doesn't want to talk about IT. No camping out, and no questions will be taken from the audience the day of the event.

But questions CAN be submitted in advance. What should we ask (I'll be there with Jenny Jerkface, Myg, Mama Cougar, and possibly some other assorted Twitarded folk)??? I was thinking of something along the lines of "If someone in the audience happened to be wearing Pattinson Panties, would you be willing to take them back to your hotel room for closer inspection?" Or not - I don't know; there are so many possibilities! Leave your serious (and wishful thinking) suggestions - along with anything else you want to say, as always - in the comments!

UPDATE: Just learned there is a live webcast - woot! It will be like having you all there...minus the hugging...
This event is being filmed and Webcast live on new.livestream.com/nytimes. Video of the event will be available on demand, also at new.livestream.com/nytimes.

  2. Ask him if he'd like a nice relaxing vacation in Maine "the way life should be"...I know some Maine Twitards who would love to help him relax.....any way he'd like it!

  3. "Rob, are you secretly in love with Terri and stalking her on twitter? She has a weird stalker and has convinced herself it's you. If it's not you, will you just say it is because we're completely concerned about her mental stability if you say it's not. Oh, and since it's you, man up and call her. She'd totally go out with you."

  4. I've always wanted to know if he acquired the old man shuffle walk or was it something that comes naturally? And if the walk was something that he took on, was it to alleviate the pain of carrying around those birthing hips? I love being a bitch.

  8. I wish I could get on this Pattintrain. Please know I will be channeling all of you like nobody's business. My general question: Bushmills or Jameson? Seriously I want to know. My film related question: Gun or Tazer? My ending comment: Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold.

    1. Wasn't there an interview where the interview asked for a quick fire response to 2 choices? And Rob got all confused about if he likes to give or to get surprise gifts. It was endearingly Rob.
      So in that vein--
      Winter or summer?
      Apples or oranges?
      The beach or the mountains?
      Fiction or non-fiction?
      Spiderman or Batman?
      plain or peanut?
Coffee or tea? (or me? lol)
You could go on and on--
Knowing Rob, he'd probably supply his own (thoughtful!) answers!

  12. Ladeeez! So wonderful! Have fun! I had the distinct pleasure of asking James McAvoy a really really stupid question at a Times Talk last year and I must say, he was wonderful. The whole thing was great. And surprisingly low-key. Seriously, though, it was great. I asked about inspirations or something stupid (while stuttering - yea, I'm almost 40) and he talked about his love for the Lord of the Rings. So, yea, wonderful.

Sorry you won't be able to ask him something directly, but no matter, it'll be rad. You're all pretty close to the seated guests (it's a pretty small room, if it's in the normal place). Excited for you!

Oh and I'm a little bit more in love with Jon Stewart now. That was *also* rad! Now I need to go be in the audience of the Daily Show. It's kind of nice living near the city. Have fun! I would definitely go with the Pattinson panties question. It's super relevant to Cosmopolis. Do it!

    1. I am counting on it being a small room with not a bad seat in the house, so really glad to hear this! I imagine they would have moved it to a larger venue if they knew it was going to sell out in a matter of moments, but I think it's the usual place. WOOT!

I think the Jon Stewart appearance was PERFECT.

  13. SO jealous! I have yet to share air with him either. He doesn't frequent mid-size southern cities and my family wouldn't see my reasoning of someone of my age camping out to see a twenty-something movie star. But I WANT TO!! Have fun for the rest of us!

    1. I may be a total tool for thinking this way but I listened to a science-y show years ago that talks about how people exchange molecules in the air they breath and I know I am going to be leaving this thing today asking JJ and Myg if I look any different now that I have Robecules in me.

  14. DOOOOD!!!! That's amazeballs! I can't wait to hear about your time with Teh Pretay, and after seeing him last night on The Daily Show, you know he's gonna look DAMN GOOD. I about died when I saw him all suited up with that fuckhawt hair. It was great to hear his voice again and his laugh still kills me dead. They way his eyes crinkle when he truly smiles....Re-dead.

I digress. Ask him if he has any favorite short story authors and if he has any interest in writing a screen play on any favorite stories. Or if he has any interest in working in comedy (because those VMA commercials with Tom and Taylor were HILARIOUS....."What are you gonna wash your hair with?" "Duht." BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!). Does he prefer manual or automatic? Ray Bradbury or Richard Matheson? How does he feel about Hollywood remaking so many older movies and relying on franchises? With Cronenberg's innovation and vision for Cosmopolis (insane and awesome), will a truly creative renaissance in screenwriting finally return with original films? Because we're fucking sick of seeing the same movies done for more money and with worse actors 20 years after their first runs.

    1. Maybe I should ask him if he is still ok with so many of his fans being old enough to have seen those 20-year-old films that are being re-made in the theaters the FIRST time around lol...

  15. Just saw the Jon Stewart interview. Can we talk about when he said "I am double spanked?" If you can get him to talk about being double spanked, that would be great. PS - this is written from the great beyond because I fully fell down dead when he said that.

  16. I think you should ask him if he's ever read any fan fiction and if he would consider starring in the film version of fifty shades...lol. And in regards to the Jon Stewart interview...I'm suprised nobody has yet mentioned when he tongue fucked the ice cream!!! slurp slurp Rob....slurp slurp...

  18. So, STY, have you sent in a question yet?
I thought of one: Rob, you and David seem to make a great director/actor team. But what about switching roles? Rob behind the camera for a project? David having a cameo somewhere?

I was so close to going, but it is the first day of school here for my kiddos. One of those parental must do's.

I could never handle all the chaos and emotions churning out from a premiere or similar type event; I think you have picked a great opportunity for your first time :-) Want to read every detail, so please post when your brain comes back on line and you can write a coherent thought. I met Rachelle LeFevre, Edi Gathegi and Taylor Lautner, way way back in 2008, it was a lovely experience, and I was on this weird elated high for days and days after-- and they weren't anywhere near the star power of Rob! So very excited for you!
